Columnist David Codrea of Guns Magazine, calls it a “ridiculous affront to liberty.” “This is nothing less than a declaration of war on American gun owners,” Codrea writes in Gun Rights Examiner. – Drew Zahn, WorldNet Daily

One thing we don’t need is more restrictions on gun owners. Again, we find that the US Government is looking to impose laws that restrict those of us who are law-abiding citizens. If they think that a law of this nature will keep the criminals from having guns, they’re dead wrong. In each instance of gun restrictions, all we find is that the only people who have weapons are the criminals. Do we think that somehow criminals will see the light and turn in their weapons? No…only those of us who legally carry will be forced to abide or become criminals ourselves. Stay safe…stay armed.

Amen. This could well be the start of secession of the REAL America away from the Northeast states and Kalifornia.

They will not be able to build enough jail cells to hold those of us who will continue to maintain our firearms for the protection of ourselves and our families…and I speak as retired from 27 years of Law Enforcement. Gonna also have a hard time making cops enforce the proposed laws… There is a lot of truth to the saying “When seconds count, the police are only minutes away.”

I couldn’t agree more the politicians of this country are a bunch of retarded corrupt idiots who on a daily basis basically force the hand of law abiding Americans. I simply cannot understand how the corrupt idiots think this bill would do anything to quell crime in America or anywhere else. I hate guns and war and violence and if I had a magic wish i’d rid the world of all firearms and munitions of any kind but we all know thats not gonna happen. So as the old saying goes if you take the guns away from the good people only the BAD people WILL have guns!!!!! As far as a civil war goes in the earlier comment I believe that person mispoke.I believe what he/she intended to say was that this country IS headed for a REVOLUTION , it’s only a matter of time now.

Amen to that. I live in Illinois which is 95% red outside Chicago. Ive been advocating Chicago become its own state so the rest of Illinois can be a good (red) state.

I keep hearing people bash Illinois for what Chicago does. Barak Obama – Chicago, Roland Burris – Chicago, Rod Blowjobavich – Chicago, DICK! Durbin – Chicago…

Please people dont blame Illinois for what Chicago does.

I agree with the above comments! The only people this law is going to HURT and HINDER are the law abiding citizens who lawfully own guns. The criminals will only gain a stronger hold on the Americans that can no longer protect themselves… and dialing 911 promotes investigation after a crime has already been committed!

I live in Indiana and have a “License to Carry a Handgun”, but I cannot carry it 12 miles to cross the border into Illinois. Or in Ohio or New Jersey for that matter. BUT I can go to Navada and get an out-of-state handgun license, and then I could carry my handgun in all the above mentioned states. Why? Try Chicago, Cleveland and Atlantic City, and their connection to the Navada gambling syndicate.

A Hoosier and proud of it (even if Indy and East Chicago put us in the blue column this election. We are also 95% red state!)

You can be pro-gun but anti-republican. Why is it always red and blue, Democrat and Republican or Right and Left. I am an Independent (think for myself instead of letting a party define me), progressive ( not all change is good but change is necessary), moderate ( find the best solution for all those involved within reason) and a gun owner ( who believes HR 45 is a bad idea). I do not want to register my guns only to re-apply in 5 years with my little picture ID. What is next, making me out to be like a sex offender and listing to all my neighbors that a “gun owner” is in their neighborhood or that I fail to meet some new criteria when I re-apply therefore making me a criminal.

I blame ALL bad politicians and their pundits for all that they do. John Boener-R is just as destructive and counterproductive as Nancy Pelosi-D. They need to work for the people and not themselves.

TREASON? Bill Clinton forced American troops to serve under UN officers so he could send us into combat without congressional approval. That is treason fool. In the mean time he was trying to take our guns away. And the libs worry about W’s abuse of power???? I guess Monica was that good. I am ready to join the Revolt.
The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Not only does this bill impeded on our second amendment rights, it also severely oversteps the fourth amendment. Hopefully we will see our Democratic House make a sound decision when voting on this bill.

The Second Amendment was set up for the sole purpose of giving The People the means to defend against a government that infringes on the Rights of The People.

It is not treasonous to hold such beliefs. Rather it is our right and duty.

“They” have already taken our First Amendment away, so I guess it’s time for “them” to take away the Second—-or do we as Americans stop this fascism now?

What did Stalin, Mao, and Hitler have in common? They had all the guns and their people had nothing; let’s not join them.

I agree with your point, but sadly, those corrupt politicians are neither retarded nor idiots. Talk of crime reduction is a thin veneer. They are crafty and determined opponents. Never underestimate your opponent. Control of arms is about control of the people. Consider:

100 to 120 M adults (potential voters) legally own firearms (BATF); Census est. 201M adult citizens; Usual est. for the 2008 election is 69M Obama, 59M McCain. Gun owners are a sleeping majority. No wonder Obama avoided “the gun issue”. Step one complete, The Party is back in power… step 2 is retain power.

HR 45 would, retroactively, make every gun owner a felon for doing nothing, literally. The bill provides 60 days to get your license for the guns you already own; how likely is it that the any federal agency can set up a licensing system in 60 days that can handle 100M people? This bill can be used not only to strip you of your right to arms, it can strip you of your right to vote. Think about that.

I’ve seen first hand what happens when only criminals have weapons. I lived in the DC suburbs and saw drug dealers shooting it out in the 12th street tunnel during the 80’s in brode day light.

this is just the first step in controlling and then outlawing gun ownership in this country. if the nuts in DC try to out law my guns then I will gladly join the ranks of other outlaws such as Thomas jefferson, John Adams, and George Washington whom i consider patriots in rising up to protect and defend the Consitution of the USA and the “Original” bill of rights!

if they want my guns then i’ll gladly give it to them 1 bullet at a time. my childern will not grow up in a slave state.

Molon Label – live free.

These quotes say if better than I can put into words.

“No greater wrong can ever be done than to put a good man, at the mercy of a bad , while telling him not to defend himself or his fellows. In no way is the success of evil surer or quicker”.

Theodore Roosevelt.

“The most foolish mistake we could possibly make would be to allow the subject people to carry arms. History shows all conquerors who have allowed subject people to carry arms have prepared their own fall.

Adolf Hitler.

Lara1967 01/25/2009 8:12pm
The person who is proposing this needs to read the Amendment 2 – Right to Bear Arms. Ratified 12/15/1791.

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

The last part does say Infringed meaning :

Infringe.

infringe vb [Latin infringere] 1: violate, transgress 2: encroach, trespass

In the context of the Constitution, phrases like “shall not be infringed,” “shall make no law,” and “shall not be violated” sound pretty unbendable.

You are absolutely right about that…. What the Government WANTS the people to forget is that the 2nd. Amendment has nothing to do with hunting and only a little to do with self defense. The 2nd. Amendment was writen, and our RIGHT ot own and cary arms was guarenteed, in order to protect not only ourselves and our families, but mostly to give the people the means to defend ALL of our rights and the constitution against a corrupt Government, such as the one we are now (for quite some time) seeing.

Registration and licensing gives the Government the tools necessary to disarm (by force) and have TOTAL control over it’s citizens…

I DO NOT trust a government that doesn’t trust the people it governs. They are public servents, who work for us. The Constitution was writen so those rokes could not be reversed (unless we sheepishly let them be).

What part of this is treasonous? The part where our RIGHT to bear arms is constantly being obstructed, mutated, and disregarded. And yet the people who want to have such FREEDOMS are condemned and labeled as fanatics. to own a gun is not mandatory, neither is self defense, no one says you have to stop someone from killing you, but it IS your right to do so by any means necessary. And the government has no right to mediate any of OUR FREEDOMS! They DO NOT have the right. However it is our RESPONSIBILITY to teach and mediate our own. We have slipped back and let others control our lives instead of managing our own it is our fault we let the government do these things. Treason would be turning your back on Americans and letting others from outside and within to harm your fellow Americans.

and the thing that stinks about this bill comin from this guy is he was the founder of the Illinois black panther party!now I don’t care what a person’s affiliations are,but just because he became another puppet for Daley, and went on to bigger politics, does not give him the right to ram his HYPOCRISY down the throats of law abiding citizens.

starfrosts 01/22/2009 8:01am

Yeah, like the Attorney General wants all these calls of lost guns. Really, this is not good legislation. There is a reason why people own guns. For us, it’s to have meat for the winter, and to stave off people who would brake into our home. Whoever wants to take away our privledges of gun ownership by placing all these ‘restrictions’ on us is taking away what power we have to ‘throw off such governments’ that would see us in poverty while the people in power are living a lavish life. This is exsactly what our forfathers DIDN’T want for us. Yes, there are people who misuse guns. No, the average law-abiding citizen should not get crimanalized for it.

Anonymous 01/19/2009 9:24am

This bill would be the very thing this nation needs, if they want a second revolution. Just try and take more of our rights away and see what will happen. Not only will we not vote for any Political fat cat who votes for this bill but we will actively campaign against them. And If need be lead the second revolution against these Communist legislators.

Anonymous 01/22/2009 11:22am

At the rate that these so-called “peoples’ representives” are quietly and not so quietly attacking and eroding our basics rights, I fear that it won’t be many more years until we salute the “president” with “Sig Heil”. Not a good thing at all. Unfortunately, there are too many that are fast to jump on the “me too” wagon, and this will def. show that.

Anonymous 01/28/2009 1:13pm

cold dead hands Mr. President

Alven 01/25/2009 6:19am

Why is our government enacting gun legislation that penalizes innocent law abiding citizens, in effort to reduce high crime rates? How many criminals register their guns? (NIL)
Why don’t we look at the real causes for people killing one another? The only chance
of solving this problem is to concentrate on the ROOT CAUSE. It is obvious that most of these reasons are: Lack of parental control, Lack of education, Lack of role models, No job, Negative environment, Peer pressure, Lack of self esteem…
Please WAKE UP and understand that no problem can be solved without first, eliminating the ROOT CAUSE.

Anonymous 01/29/2009 8:35am

They must be truly fools that think all the new firearms and mass ammunition being bought into private citizens hands will be turned in if they create this atrocity. I dare say this is the best anti-law and order campaign they could launch short of simply abolishing all the law enforcement agencies effective immediately. Grow up and leave citizens and our rights alone.

Now they want to say who can even own a hunting rifle. “Cold dead hands” is what I say to that.

Anonymous 01/27/2009 1:27pm

What is really sad is that so many otherwise good and decent law enforcement personnel will die trying to enforce such a stupid law should it ever come to pass. I will engage with all the force and tactics available to me if necessary.

paycheck 01/23/2009 9:46am

Why not use the death penalty for a deterrent to those who think they can murder? What a novel idea. If people realized there was consequences for their actions, we would have a lot less murder going on. And for those who do, we remove them from society permanently, problem solved.
The armed community is a safe community. We don’t live in a fairy tale world.
