Senator Frank Lautenberg will replace the late Senator Byrd as Chairman of Homeland Security Appropriations. Senator Lautenberg is not a newcomer he’s been a senator since 1982.

Unemployed screwed again, Gov of WV is not going to appoint someone he is in favor of a special election in Nov. 2010 where he might run. He asked the AG of WV to confirm the law of sucession but did not give them a deadline to get back to him, he hopes by next week, then he will decide either to appoint or have a special election. This will go on until Nov. I am beginning to think that is the stall tactic for the Dem. The Rep. must be laughing their heads off. Don’t you think Reid in his position should have know this could happen, as WV wanted to do this earlier last year.

  • peytonsplace007 07/07/2010 8:24am

I am getting concerned about this now. Just read about WV possibly holding a special election in November for Byrd’s Senate seat. Even if not, its not looking possible for an appointment by the 12th like we all are hoping. What now? Either another Republican has go join forces, or Dem Ben Nelson will come to his senses. This is so stressful.

there is no SS money left… another government “promise” turned into a big lie.

When implemented, it was billed as a “trust fund” that everyone would be “MANDATED” to pay into on each and every pay-day. This system was to be a “trust-fund” that you could draw on when you retire.

Unfortunately, congress has been pilfering, borrowing, robbing and stealing from this so-called “trust-fund” since it was put into place.

The system is $29 BILLION in THE RED!! In other-words, it’s bankrupt..

    Medicare = bankrupt
    Medicaid = bankrupt
    Amtrack = bankrupt
    Fannie Mae = bankrutp
    Freddie Mac = bankrupt
    US Postal Service = bankrupt

    see the pattern here?

  • aobrien 07/07/2010 9:01am

I’m sure you’re right too BECAUSE we are screaming!

Even so, we need to write our senators, especially if they’re a Republican! I’m disgusted and offended that the majority of House Republicans voted against this bill. My husband is not just giving up when and if his unemployment benefits run out (another 3 wks!). If there’s a job, he applies! He’s been in construction for over 30 years and has always done whatever it takes, usually relocating, to stay working and support our family! There aren’t any jobs—that’s the problem. Not even overseas!

Just wait until they implement “Cap and Trade” global warming bill to regulate and tax what remains of our smokestack industries, businesses and corporations under the guise of “saving the world from plastic and red meat”. When businesses “electric bills” necessarily skyrocket.

You know, businesses that manufacture all those materials that are used for “construction” of things by the private sector.

Then on top of that, just wait until they give amnesty to 15 million illegal aliens and make them full blown citizens..

You think finding a job now is tough? just wait until 15 million more are added into the job search.

It really is quite a shame.. all we can do is put our faith in GOD and that our politicians will turn this disaster around.

If only the CONSTITUTION would be adhered to strictly, we would never be in this situation. But it too has been cast aside by the majority in congress and this administration..

  • chosen79 07/07/2010 3:13pm

It is so sad how they just cut us off. We wouldn’t be on unemployment if we really didn’t need it. The job market isn’t that great right now and if I didn’t have money saved up, I wouldn’t know how I was going to pay my bills. They need to pass this bill for all of the Americans that are unemployed right now.

  • eavina30 07/07/2010 8:47pm

i give up, don’t know what else to do, there not going to pass it, now there just rubbing it in our faces

  • jrhill 07/08/2010 2:51am

just read this in the Washington times:

The nation’s debt leapt $166 billion in a single day last week and it comes at a time when Congress is balking over higher spending and debt has become a key policy battleground.

The one-day increase for June 30 totaled $165,931,038,264.30 – bigger than the entire annual deficit for fiscal year 2007 and larger than the $140 billion in savings the new health care bill will produce over its first 10 years. The figure works out to add nearly $1,500 to the debt for every U.S. household, or more than 10 times the median daily household income.

As it stands now, every family in the country owes $140,000 to the government to pay off this debt. How do you think they are going to raise that kind of money?

  • tulips4you2 07/08/2010 4:52am

I’m still in SHOCK that the senate left to go on “vacation”. We are hungry, behind on rent/house payments, utilities are getting shut off, credit scores are being ruined, cars are braking down with no way to fix them let alone put gas in the tank! We are hard working AMERICANS and this is how we are treated? With congress leaving for “vacation”?!? Like we are NOTHING!

    kd713 07/09/2010 12:06pm

OMG! You hit the nail right on the head! What the hell is their problem? Don’t they see, care what is happening to all of us?

  • Ktula7 07/08/2010 6:12am

Well it just goes to show how much they truly care about the unemployed. First, it’s been over thirty days since they’ve allowed unemployment benefits to lapse. They’ve had several votes on the issue and voted no every time. They’ve gone on not one but two week long breaks since and still haven’t come to a resolution. There is unused stimulus money to be used but the Dems won’t touch it. The Republicans flat out don’t care because it isn’t an issue where they will get a kick back! I hope you have all written down every polititians name that voted “nay” and remember them, not only in November, but throughout their entire careers as long as you shall live! And remember that they forgot about you when you needed them most!!!

  • Ktula7 07/08/2010 6:19am

Instead of complaining, we need to use these sights as tools to get our points across. The bottom line is that these are elected officials. Of course, supposedly George Bush was elected into office and of all states that there was a problem, it was Florida, where his brother conveniently enough was Governor. Hmmmm….And that’s where all of our problems began. People seem to forget too quickly. And that’s the problem. Start by writing down the names of every single senator that voted no on this bill. Remember them FOREVER, not just in November. Get involved and never forget that they bailed on us when we needed them most. Do your research and post helpful websites or addresses that the unemployed can use to help us get through to the Senate…Like recently, they’re saying that you need to contact WVA’s DA since he is the one that will make the final decision on whether they appt Byrd’s seat…http://www.wvago.gov/webtech.cfm?p=attorneygeneral.cfm. United we stand!

  • Ktula7 07/08/2010 6:24am

Stand strong, stand tall! Never let ’em see you sweat!!! Use your time wisely. Post your stories. Post the names of the Senators that voted no. Like someone said that CNN was filtering their comments where someone said that the suicide hotlines are out of control. And this is while our Senate is on their “break”. This has gotten out of control and it needs to be fixed right away! Enough is enough. The only way to get the economy going is to put money back into it. And that includes us! We may not be Wall Street, or a huge bank, or AIG…but they all hold onto their money. We put ours back into the system! Enough already!

  • vcfitz 07/08/2010 12:22pm

We need this bill to pass in Congress. The Unemployed People deserve it. There are no jobs out there for anyone…let alone in Florida where the Unemployment Rate is 11.7% and no new jobs created as promised by Governer Christ and also Obama himself. Let’s take away all there funds and see how the little people have to survive without any money or jobs to house or feed their families. We are starving out here. It’s not like we asked to be unemployed, We would love to be working and be self supporting again, all you need to do is create some jobs for us hard working common folk. Get off your high horses and pass this thing already!! Some of us don’t get vacations or the benefits that Congress does…I think they should dig deep into their pockets and give back to the American people that put them in their jobs and gave them the ability to make the kind of money that they have made. Corrupt or not!!!!

  • lordgotmilk 07/08/2010 4:10pm

Let’s keep in mind one point before writing the names of those who’ve voted no to remember at the polls. The political process was designed for compromise. I’m less likely to hold it against those that voted no with well thought out reasons and I won’t hold it against those who’ve attempted to compromise to get this passed. I will hold it against those that flatly refuse to compromise. I will hold it against those that refused compromise more than those who’ve been indifferent. Looks like I’ll be doing a lot more research this election cycle. Maybe, once I can afford the hosting, I’ll put together a website to provide that information in one place. Put some of my web development skills to practice. If so, I’ll let everyone know here.

In the meantime, what about a site on a free website… facebook, twitter, something like that?

  • Loriann123 07/09/2010 3:47am

Instead of bashing the government lets keep all the men and women that hold office in prayer as is commanded by scripture. Lets pray that they do what is right for our country, not their own political and/or personal interests. Let’s continue to pray for our troops and for those dealing with the issues such as the oil disaster.

Lord, thank you for your continued protection, even when we can’t see that which you are doing at the moment. Grant us faith to trust and believe in you. Even when we do not know where our next meal is coming from, you Lord, are our provider, Jahovah Jirah!

  • JohnDoeUtah 07/09/2010 8:11am

Because this Bill denies unemployment extentions for those required to Register as Sex Offenders, it is an unconstitutional Bill of Attainder, and denies a subsection of society the equal protection of the laws. It would be perhapse constitutional if all felons were denied the opportunity for extended unemployment benefits; however, instead Congress has selected a certain subsection of society to push out into the streets.

The main goal of Congress here is to make those on the Sex Offender Registry affected by the economic downturn destitute, pushing them out on the streets and taking away thier stablity, in the hopes that in doing so registrants will slip up and violate the other unconstitutional sex offender laws, thus landing them back in prison.

The Sex Offender Solutions and Education Network (SOSEN.us) is in the steps of organizing opposition to this Bill as unconstitutional in that it denies benefits to a subsection of legal american citizens it does not sympathize with.

  • peytonsplace007 07/09/2010 10:54am

I just read on the Open Congress home page that Gov. Manchin of WV is going to hold off on picking an interim senator (in place before the Nov. elections) for a possible week or week-and-a half, until he can get some more legal advice. This interim senator is what we need for the 60th vote. Now what? Start calling Manchin’s office to make an interim senator decision sooner rather than later???

  • enrico17 07/09/2010 11:27am

This bill will not be voted on until after the summer recess and they come back in Sept. If he waits a week or week and 1/2, that will be almost the end of July, and it will take over a week for the voting process, because you know the Republicans will hold it up every step of the way it will be Aug and they will go on summer recess. This gov likes his power and loves the publicity, also he is looking out for himself because he has a better change of winning in 2010 and does not know if that will happen so the heck with the rest of you. Another politician who does not care about these bills. The Republicans must be laughing their heads off at the mess the democrats are making of this situation, they cannot accomplish anything and this Gov. does not care what Reid or President want. What a joke

  • kd713 07/09/2010 12:14pm

Is there a way to find out WHEN they really ARE going to vote on this again? I’ve been putting a lot of faith in this being passed by next Monday, the 12th. Isn’t that when they’re officially back from their ‘break’?

  • Comm_reply
    lordgotmilk 07/09/2010 12:37pm

On the 12th, they are supposed to bring hr4213 to the table again. HR5618 won’t see the light of the Senate floor because Reid will hold it up anyways, because he’d rather wait on getting the larger bill passed. He’s said numerous times and has backed that up with action, that he will not allow a stand alone unemployment bill.

  • Comm_reply
    kd713 07/09/2010 1:14pm

Well that’s just great. And it doesn’t look too promising for hr4213 either, does it?

Right now it seems dependent on Byrd’s spot getting filled with someone that will vote this bill in. Some reports I’ve read say that we could be looking at up to about another 2 weeks for that to happen.

The only other hope I see to get this done is through compromise between the two parties. So far Reid has thrown all compromise aside, but we all neeeeeeed to make sure we are emailing him daily and reminding him who we all are. I think we should all email him with a similar email title such as Compromise with HR4213 if you have to!!

We can forget the Byrd spot getn filled…. heard today, that shyt faced gov (who wants the senate seat) will have a special election to fill the seat… although he can just appoint the successor :-(….. Guess we could always count on Nelson? NOT!
