Responding to a comment from a reader, Colliss wrote yesterday: “I am hard containing both my contempt and anger at Congresswoman Lee’s antics (and in my mind there is no other word for it). She could have introduced this earlier but did not. Sort of reminds one of the much welcomed and acclaimed ‘Americans Want to Work Act’ introduced by Senator Stabenow who, as near as can be ascertained did nothing – absolutely nothing – to get it out of committee and then made a half hearted attempt to pull of a unanimous consent request which even she must have known would go nowhere.”
Michael Colliss worked for 21 years as a staff member in Congress.
“Look, I have learned long ago that you really cannot predict how far Congressmen will go for attention and good press. That is alas part of the game out there. But to do this during Christmas week and raise people’s hopes when there is no way this will happen in this or any alternate universe is about as heartless as it gets. I think she may think that people will not see this as an almost transparent attempt to get some good press. So, in addition to not caring about adding stress to the 99ers (as if they do not have enough already) apparently the good Congresswomen from California thinks the 99er community and advocates for unemployed are stupid as well,” Colliss wrote.

this is off subject a bit, But that start treaty thing it is obvious that the GOP is dragging the dem,s over the coals for Obamas snub at the GOP and not doing ONE bipartisan thing yet. In the mean time we can see how much they all care about us.
It is all a big frigging game to them. I wish I could afford to move to another country after learning all I have learned since being unemployed.
right on was give me my fucking social security money now and im outta here…fuck these people and the games they play….were not included in their plans anyways…just our money….
We will be lucky to even get our social security by the way things are going.
‘americans want to work act’ never included any job growth policy. essentially its about paying people to not work all the while ignoring illegal immigration, outsourcing, a extension for the 99er long term unemployed, and positive local job growth policies, it had nothing to do with work or good jobs.
Don’t you have someplace to go for Christmas………
Yeah, he’s got someplace to be their gathering the wood as we speak….
N0bama roasting on a open fire,
Conservashits nipping at your nose,
UI carols being sung by a choir,
And 99’ers dressed up like the eskimos.
Everybody knows a repuke and a conservashit,
Help to make the season drowel.
OC posters with their eyes all aglow’,
Will find it hard to sleep tonight.
They know that Bambi’s on his way,
He’s loaded lots of Limbaugh and beck on his sleigh,
And every mother’s son is casted away,
While n0bama really is here just to play.
And so I’am offering this simple phrase,
To posters from one to ninety- two,
Although its been said many times, many ways,
N0bama you’re a Shmoo
SyFy ran a documentary with Lester Holt from NBC about 2012 earlier, and they mentioned a survival forum in the show. The forum now has 20,000 people on it after the show.

Who are the homeless?
There are some general facts of which people should be aware. To begin, the number one cause of homelessness, as listed by the homeless themselves, is job loss, at 24 percent of respondents. The second salient fact is that homelessness has nearly doubled over the past two years. Yet, official statistics on unemployment show a slight drop over this time period. The conundrum is solved when one knows that “unemployment” is usually calculated on the basis of the census over households. Obviously, the homeless are not among those respondents. The more appropriate measure of unemployment is calculated on the basis of reported loss of job openings by employers themselves. Calculated in this manner, there has indeed been a small recent rise in the number of the unemployed.
Here are a couple of other facts that have not emerged in the general statistical assays.
Among the unemployed, perhaps the most obdurate of all precipitating causes is so-called “over-qualification.” The seriousness here is nearly universally ignored as a result of a kind of reverse discrimination. When serious enough, these people cannot even get a job as a dishwasher. Think: Every employer wants some kind of recent employment references, which they will certainly verify. Who is going to hire a dishwasher with a PhD — or more? I personally know of instances where such people, despite hundreds of applications for jobs most readers would never be willing to even consider, have endured years of frustration and, eventually, homelessness.

99ers Protest Unemployment Extension With Candle Light Vigil
One of the more discussed articles on this site had interesting comments left by those in opposition to cutting off the 99ers benefits. You can read those comments here.
As a working American, it is difficult to see why people need a free ride past 99 weeks which amounts to almost two whole years. We were a country built on hard work and making opportunities happen for ourselves, and two years is more than enough time to scramble an opportunity together. Every fast food, department store and Starbucks seems to be hiring and if I desperately needed to support my family, I would have no problem working two full time jobs to do so.

Perhaps some viewers here would like to educate them that we can not even find one job, never mind two full time jobs.
Was: the point of the fact is, those fast food, department store and Starbucks position might be hiring, But as myself who’s occupation for the last 30 years has been a CDL-truck driver, have applied to these positions in the recent past, only to be told that I’am over qualified…..
Can someone tell me how anyone could be "Over Qualified’ to servre a cup of joe !!!! or how to flip a Hamburger !
That is why I posted the article above it first. It explains that well.
Can anyone verify claims I am reading in forum posts that this bill (H.R.6556) is paid for with unspent stimulus money???
was where did you read that?

This is a reply I got on another site.
Here is how HR6556 was to be funded according to the bill.

Though the 111th Congress is expected to end for the House tomorrow, you can bet Reps. Lee and Scott will offer H.R. 6556 again when the two lawmakers return on January 5, 2011.

No Urgency in Obama White House to Save 99er Millions
http://zennie2005.blogspot.com/2010/12/no-urgency-in-obama-white-house-to-save.html?spref=tw
The Obama administration’s inability to obtain an improved tax revenue for federal coffers is the latest farce in the comic American tragedy unfolding before our very eyes. This government appears incapable of understanding that printing increasing amounts of currency while realizing deteriorating tax revenues and generally lethargic economic conditions is the direct path toward default.
forget the feel-good reports coming out the main stream media. They are nothing more than post-meal flatulence from a body fed on the gassy and rosy statistics generated by payroll economists. Ridiculous new configurations in the English language are evidence of the totality with which financial journalism has been compromised. Who ever heard of something so utterly vapid and oxymoronic as a “jobless recovery”?

It’s time to start developing a new strategy to press for passage of the expansion of unemployment benefits for 99ers so we are ready come January 5’TH and the start-up of the 112’TH Congress. I encourage all to put on your thinking caps and start to examine how we turn this effort up a notch or two!
