By all means make them eligible for the badge, but…
I think that if they are really concerned with having the badge they can shell out the 10 bucks for it themselves. If a government agency is involved in this each badge will end up costing taxpayers (which includes recipients) twice as much.
This Bill needs to be passed. It is fitting recognition for all the Direct Combat Support soldiers of the Combat Engineers, Artillery, Cav, Armored, and other Combat Support units since WW II to recieve the CAB. As for funding….put in the Bill that whoever desires the actual badge must do so at their own expense.
There has been divisiveness and issues in the Army since the CIB was created in 1941. Many requests to resolve this went unheeded until the creation of the CAB after 9/11. This was a great thing. NOW it needs to be back dated to 1941 Just as the Department of the Navy (including Marines) did several years ago with their Combat Action Ribbon (basically the same award, just decided on a ribbon vs a badge). There is precedence so it can be done. I fought in four war zones and engaged the enemy regularly so would be eligible. I have absolutely NO issue buying my own. Anyone not still in the military should buy their own. Cost should not be an issue for this bill! Let’s get the word out and get it passed.
The men who were not infantry on D-Day and during the Vietnam War were and are still not considered active combat troops. Gee, I guess that the fact that the 299th Combat Engineer Bn was the “First” unit to set foot on Omaha Beach on D-Day and sustained 60 casualties in the first minutes of the assault doesn’t make them combat veterans.
I guess the Battle of DakTo hasn’t rung any bells with the House Armed Services Subcommittee after all these years.
I guess that wasn’t combat either, even though A-Company and supporting units were awarded the Valorous Unit Citation, which is tantamount to the “Silver Star” for it’s actions. The 299th built and defended two airstrips that were vital to the Central Highlands Combat operations and they were at Hill 875 dragging ammunition up the hill and bodies back down.
By all mean this Badge should be retroactive to Dec 7 1941 to all that are qualified. They deserve it. The cost should not be the issue all that want it should buy teir own. Let’s pass it.
Pass this bill.I’ll submit my paperwork and buy the badge myself.(gulf war 91 and somolia 92-93)
I think the COST has already been paid! A COST many in Washington don’t even have a clue about. As to the Veterans in Washington, how can you deny something that has been earned! This isn’t the national defense ribbon we’re talking about. I was an Engr in Viet Nam 70-71. I earned a CIB but I can’t wear one just because of the differance in MOS. We fought the same, bleed the same and some died the same as 11B20’s. The CAB would mean some closer to a lot of us.
Let’s go commitee members!!!!Pass this damn bill!I’d trade all my personal awards from Gulf 1 and Somolia to have this badge. For you young guys who already have it,tankers, scouts MP’s,engineers, etc have been pushing for a badge like this for 40 years for those who earned it.Stop naming post office’s and pass this bill.
