Official Summary

11/7/2009--Passed House without amendment. (This measure has not been amended since it was introduced. The summary of that version is repeated here.) Recognizes the 30th anniversary of the Iranian hostage crisis during which 52 U.S. citizens were held hostage for 444 days. Honors the service of the U.S. diplomats and military personnel held hostage and the servicemen who were killed or wounded in an attempt to free the hostages. Supports all Iranian citizens who embrace the values of freedom, human rights, civil liberties, and rule of law. Urges the Secretary of State to make every effort to assist U.S. citizens held hostage in Iran at any time during the period beginning November 4, 1979, through January 20, 1981, and their survivors in matters of detention-related compensation.
