A Line item Veto would allow for stricter controls on spending from the Congress and significantly reduce earmarks, that is if used in a fiscally sound way, though it seems that nobody in DC knows what the words “fiscally sound” mean anymore…
“nobody in DC knows what the words “fiscally sound” mean anymore"
“Fiscally sound”? Is that the sucking noise the can of tuna makes when I squeeze the water out of it? :-)
tinman: it also gives the executive branch even MORE power. The scales and balances are already horribly scewed, why would you support them being even more so?
There’s a reason why we have a congress to override the president. This country isn’t supposed to have a KING.
eydaimon: Thats just the point. Right now Congress tags all kinds of things that don’t belong on bills that are otherwise commendable. Line item veto would allow the President to strike items. These would go back to Congress and if appropriate, the veto on specific items could be over-ridden. If Congress can’t over-ride them they probably were not appropriate anyway. No King, No BS in bills, no earmarks, etc, unless the Presedent allows. Then you could lay all the blame on the President, instead of on Congress where it really belongs.
