Of course ever American respects Abe, but with all that’s going on in this country and the world, and this is how you choose to spend your time?

Thank you Bert for not letting me spend my time for saying the same thing.

Lincoln did more to destroy states rights than one could begin to imagine by federal intervention which was the cause of the American Civil War, just because our current Presidency regales Abe as the greatest man that ever lived doesn’t mean that we need to take the time every year to honor him or maybe we should as we race into socialism. Granted Mr. Lincoln was assassinated in office and for that we should remember him, but the removal of the states rights to govern themselves with laws and regulations that were not in violation with the Constitution was truly a sad day in American politics. Also aren’t there a few more important things that those in Washington should be working on than the little bit of brown nosing our new President?

Wow. What a waste of a bill! Be more constructive with you time and our money! Jeez.

  • Anonymous 03/04/2009 2:54pm

GrahicDreams is absolutely correct… I mean WTF?? It is on every calendar printed… and with the state of the nation and the world…we need to waste time on any dead president? No wonder the world is kicking our collective ass.

I agree that a bill such as this is a waste of time. Presidents day is already a national holiday. As for the history of Lincoln I think that should be left up to each citizen to read their history and know what has truly happened in our country’s past.

BTW, what’s with Pres. Obama being compared to Washington, Lincoln and Kennedy? This all before he even took office. I think the man has to serve the office a little longer than a month before we put him on a pedestal.

This bill absolutely “pisses” me off! There are real issues these people should be dealing with and not wasting their time and our tax dollars on something so trivial as this! What is wrong with these people? Wasting time on this type of bill is NOT doing a good job.

  • jag_fisch 03/20/2009 4:53pm

If the schools were doing their job, this would already be taught to the students. I don’t believe an individual day and the additional accolades are appropriate, or the ADDITIONAL GOVERNMENT EXPENDITURES are necessary AT THIS TIME OF OUR CURRENT HISTORY! I also don’t believe, were Lincoln alive today, he’d approve of this type of hype. As I recall from my history lessons, he was a humble man who just stood up for what he believed in. ’nuff said!

Please tell me our elected officials have something better to do with their time than propose irrelavent legislation like this.

  • bear 03/25/2009 2:47am

Clearly, our representatives have WAY too much time on their hands.

  • jsylvers 04/02/2009 11:39am

Isn’t this a Non-Issue? Too many Lawyers in office if this is the sort of law they are trying to pass.

  • dwhite8515 04/04/2009 10:26am

    clearly a waste of time.

  • GRH 04/04/2009 5:12pm

First of all even thinking about a bill like this with every thing going on in the economy is absolutely foolish! The money spent on this foolishness should be refunded and paid back to the stimulus. Also, Lincoln was not the only President of the United States. I think the individual introducing this bill is prejudice.

  • texasgal 04/11/2009 8:58pm

OMH! And dthis was started by a repocrat too! Its not fairl to be selective of one group over another, it should all be equal no matter what you do (according to Obama’s reform) SOOO This is totally ajgsgjljg

    Also, why Abe? Abe would never of said we were not a christian nation. He red the Bible like crazy! He was charisma, like obama, but that the only thing in common. Why would that be his fav pres? Oh yeah he fought a war that didnt need to be fought and lost 600,,000 lives! Every other nation freed the slaves w/ money and Abe could of for much less of a loss to our nation! Whatever, see yall in fema camp. I did like camp as a kid. Abe was for charity too! ARG;

  • texasgal 04/11/2009 9:08pm

Meant Abe was for charity…and Obama hinders non-profits greatly now. And its the will of wanting to help that matters and what our children should learn, not that volunteerism is mandatory , and no one says thanks anymore.

Im never clear when im typing in a fury!haha I just mean isn’t he discriminating though among all the other presidents here? Kinda hypocritical to me, and why the actually serious laws havent had time on floor. HR1270

On Obama’s best day he will not accomplish what Lincoln did on his worst.Lincoln didn’t have to hire people to recruit convicts for votes to get elected. Lincoln spoke from his heart, didn’t need 12 tele-prompters. If Obama thinks the Civil War was over slavery, he’s wrong, it was over States’ rights, the slavery issue came later. We’re still fighting over States and individual rights today, but now we’re going to have to fight Obama and his dishonest Cabinet. Obama needs to go back to Chicago to the Capone type politics, not try to make people think he’s what he is not, a caring Lincoln type President.

  • NanaG 04/25/2009 9:57am

Don’t you people think you have more important issues to take care of? This country is going to hell in a handbasket and you want to waste your time on this?
History is already being taught in the schools without federal mandates. Get back to working on issues that mean something!!!!!

  • Lara1967 04/27/2009 11:13pm
For One USA is not a christian Nation… The First Nation People were Native American who were not Christians.

Two ? why on earth would anyone need to have another day for Abe.. His birthday is enough…. stop wasting webspace for a man who started the Civil war.
