Folks, it doesn’t matter when and who put the term limits in our Constitution. What matters is the Progressive Democratic Socialist are trying their best to ruin this Country any way they can. What does matter is each and every American that still believes in Freedom and the principals that our Founding Father’s fought for and died for are preserved. Call your elected representatives and send e-mail’s and letters showing them how disgusted you are with their actions.
Instead of being repealed should be expanded to include Senators and Representatives. They get in office and forget why we elected them.
As I have said in early posts, if you truly believe that your elected representatives have forgotten why they are in office, VOTE THEM OUT! That is the “term limit” mechanism enacted by the Founders. A vote, free from government coercion. Don’t sit there and cry about how bad it is in Washington, send them the only message that they respect, VOTE AGAINST THE USELESS FLOTSOM INSIDE THE BELTWAY!!!
How many times can I vote “NO”?
Term limits for all elected officials
The reason there is no term limit for Congressional officials is because that is the only representation you have for your state and locality within the federal government. Those people should be continuously in touch with what their people need for their states and localities.
No president,no matter who he/she is should have a term longer than 6 years. If they couldn’t be re-elected, maybe they would spend more time on the people’s business instead of in “campaign mode” all the time. They should also not get a lifetime free ride on the American people.
Yeah great. So the president can run amok for 6 years doing whatever he wants without worrying about losing his office. How about the presidents use their 4 years as a campaign and do a damn good job so that the people re-elect them without needing another campaign?
Term limits are needed because of the trend of buying votes. Without term limits the people would have no control.
Rep. Jose Serrano D- NY-16 needs to go up in the space shuttle and
start a new country on Mars. This reads like a dictatorship. No Way
Jose….
History repeats itself! This bill from Franklin Delano Roosevelt country; NEW YORK, one of the LIBERAL CESSPOOLS in our country. After 4 terms of the “Great White Father”, something had to be done and now 60 years later this Democrat wants to destroy this important term limit! He should move to Cuba where there are no elections and NO TERM LIMITS!
All politicians should HAVE term limits. They tend to forget that they are supposed to be serving their constituents concerns when they become career politicians.
Oh Yay! Now tyrants can stay in office FOREVER!!!
Only if the majority of the american people voted for them repeatedly…
I feel that this is a left wing attempt at using the power of the presidency for Obama’s personal gain. Why now? Why him? I am sick and tired of that man undermining the fundamentals of this great country for his own sick and socialist agenda!!!
Again, as soon as any political party gains power they generally try to pass laws like this, like when the republicans tried to pass a bill removing the ability to filibuster.
BOOO!! The president whether democrate or republican already far exceeds the powers vested in him by the constitution. Interpreting what bills mean when signing them into law is supposed to be the Judicial system not the executive! Thomas Jefferson said to prevent mischief in govn. politicians must be “bound by the chains of the constitution.” Most of these government types wipe their ass with the constitution. I won’t stand for them desicrating it farther with power hungry and blood lust motivated amendments!
I agree with you!!! Put more limitations and restrictions in place on all of them. Stop them all from staying there for 60 years like Strom Thurmond did from South Carolina. Stop them from stealing millions and millions from the American people by way of years in office blowing that money on PORK Spending, while stuffing their pockets with all they can hide from the American people. That’s the mischief in government Jefferson was referring to. The abuse of power, the wasting of money that belongs to the PEOPLE, not to the Congressmen and Senators, and the Whitehouse, and the DOD to all conspire together to blow as if it were theirs handed to them on a silver platter. Don’t lift any of the few restrictions that are in place, but add many many more on all of them!!!
I oppose any attempts to extend an individual’s ability to serve as President of the United States more than two terms because too many elections in the United States are controlled by legitimate and illegitimate campaign financing. Until the U. S. devises a system of financing campaigns that doesn’t ultimately get highjacked by corporate dollars— we need to keep to the wisdom of the founding fathers.
Yo.. just so everyone knows, Serrano is kind of crazy.
Yo.. just so everyone knows, Serrano is kind of crazy.Don’t rack your brains too hard on this one.
Just a bad idea all around! Though there have been presidents in the past who may have deserved to be president for a third term and would have done a great job, President George Washingtonm knew that setting that precedent would be bad. When you let an elected official stay in office too long, they forget they are elected!
Get rid of the 17th Amendment, too. And print the Tenth in big, bold letters.
I consider and so does the consitution road blocks to be a necessity in order to try to keep our government in check so not to infringe on our rights as free citizens. Yes the 22nd Amendment was not part of the original consitution and in my reading of the original, the president can only serve 4 years which is the equivilant to one term. I feel there is no murky waters in the original and there was no need for the 22nd other than to extend the term for president. I do intend to get clarification on this from NCCS. Again from the way the original document is written the president can serve only one term of 4 years in office and I believe this would be best for our country to follow.
We need to get rid of career politicians, not enable them. I’m all for term limits for everyone from the president right down to the school board. Could the people of NY please vote this idiot out?
Term limits for Congresspeople isn’t the solution to the problem. Every few years we’ll just get the same Democrats and Republicans. The real way to fix the problem of most Congresspeople getting re-elected, is to stop gerrymandering. Maybe even get rid of this “caveman” voting system, replacing it with something like range voting.
The shortest split-line algorithm creates districts that are one hundred percent impartial. They are not based on race, religion, or political affiliation. There will be safe districts, like in the heart of LA or in the depths of the Deep South, but most will not be like that. We won’t need term limits, because the more competitive, fair districts will re-elect a candidate as long as there is a popular consensus, but if someone else comes along, that incumbent will be defeated.
In most districts today, candidates win by sixty-or-more-percent margins. Others besides the incumbent have no chance. If you create term limits, there won’t be any major change.
And on top of that, to some extent career politicians are a good thing. Presidents were usually governors or senators, and before that mayors or members of congress. Term limits put a cap on this, and also inhibit the will of the people.
I think this man Serrano better start acting like an American….not just to keep his seat but to stay in the country!
Years ago I agreed with this. Reagan, okay. Clinton, okay. But I’m not sure democracy itself could have survived a 3rd GWB term. So much power in so few hands needs to be regularly passed on. If the policies are good for the people, the people will vote to continue those policies. John McCain failed because those policies failed. Had Rovian politics had more terms available to wield the cult of personality that was GWB, we would be continuing the slide towards global isolation via ostracism.
Like Bush could really get a third term, or even the Republican nomination.
Make is so no one can serve more than one term. The all get stupid after that.
