We haven’t had a President this radical since FDR and Johnson. Of course the Corporate Socialists in this country are going to want to keep this guy in power for as long as they can. This bill is just a trial balloon though. It won’t gain any traction in the House. Representative José Serrano is safe in his district and it is unlikely to affect future elections.
I support term limits for all elected officials….ESPECIALLY the Congress and Senate….I knew that the left wings would try to do this as soon as Obama hit the White house. I think Obama is probably a great guy to have a beer with, but I don’t want him running the country…Especially for LIFE!
AMEN TO THAT!!!
I support term limit, 8 year max for president but I would also like to see senators who serve be pro rated for live instead of full pay example a senator who serves 4 years would only receive 2% there salary for life, 8yrs 4% then cap pay at 50% for 20 yrs this would save the us billions in just a few years.
I’d rather pay them their full salary for life – in exchange for them never being able to work as a lobbyist. I’d much rather pay a little money (relatively speaking) for a government that represented people as opposed to special interests.
btw – ‘billions’ is an over estimate. 100 senators x 100% pay x 30 years each = 1/2 billion. (and most senators are waaay to old to live 30 years after they leave office)
I would like to see all have term limits, including judges. The longer they stay in office the more they think that they are the all knowing.
I’d be more inclined to one (1) six year presidential term limit and hard limits on all other position’s terms as well, elected or otherwise.
IMHO it’s a fallacy that with longer terms in office the politicians gain valuable experience that helps them do their job better. The real experience they gain with extra time in office is more knowledge of how and where to apply pork and feed their remoras.
I SAY FIRE CONGRESS AND START OVER! OH DONT FORGET THE SENATE!
Now that the Historic one has become president Now we have to make him president for life I DONT THINK SO
Let’s look at his in a broader scope-this bill in itself is scary enough, but couple it with HR45 (the first step in the destruction of our 2nd amendment rights) and the attemt of this administration to pass the census to Rahm Emmanuel. Restructuring of the electoral college will ensure democratic control of all the large cities and suburbs over a defenseless popualation-they wont even need to worry about the rural areas anymore….scary stuff.
I believe in Term limits and should be enforced in ANY ELECTED position.
It is in most ‘DOG CLUBS’ by laws –
If you allow them to remove Term Limits on the President you are allowing this Congress, Senate and then the sitting President to continue to treat us like Horse manure.
You’ve got to be kidding! How about limiting the number of terms senators nad congressmen can serve? This would help keep out the corruption of those who serve “life terms” in Congess. One of the best things ever done was to limit the tems a president can serve.
Gee, do you think the authors of this bill are thinking Emporer Obama? Term limits should really be in effect for ALL elected officials. But, we can all sit here and complain about the “career” politicians. We are the ones who keep voting them back into office. The simple solution to runaway government is to ALWAYS vote AGAINST the incumbent. Thats the only way we will ever see true change in Washington or even our respective state capitols and local city halls.
Interesting conundrum.
In 2008 there was no incumbent to vote against…
..but I agree …. Term Limits should apply to ALL members of ALL branches of Gov’t at ALL levels
Do you know of any Rep or Senator willing to introduce a Joint Resolution to extend the President’s limits to ALL members of Congress?
Just say “NO” to more than two terms! If they could shorten all terms and eliminate their ability to give themselves a raise, we would probably be a little better off!
need 290 votes in the house, 67 in senate, and ratified by 38 states… ain’t happening…
I hope you are right! This seems to be a trend with the libs. Reid tried it, Arnold tried it and now Obama…. but we knew he would. I guess now we know why he and Chavez were so chummy. I guess BHO got a little encouragement from him.
gee whats next? Free health care and exemption from S.S. taxes? Oh wait….. I guess they already gave themselves that.
what kind of garbage want this anyways,,,, hum….
I think people opposed to this and appealing to ‘what would the founders think’ should re-think their argument in light of the fact that nowhere in the (original) Constitution are there term limits imposed.
If you want to talk against this proposal, then you have a much better chance of being convincing by describing why term-limits are a good idea NOW; not by saying why you think people 220 years-ago that could have put them in with a stroke of the pen (but didn’t) would be for limits.
I just dont understand how and why our nation has gotten so lost. It is vary discouraging. All I can do is hope that there are more Americans out there that will stand aginst this machine.
… it’s the Dems attempting to KEEP control, no more, no less.
All government officials should have term limits! It prevents monarchy. We all remember the reaction to government officials without term limits in 1776.
Lifetime government pensions and lifetime healthcare for our elected officials has to go!! They’re giving our taxes to the corporations; they can get their perks from the corporate world after they leave office.
Two terms, ten terms. Does it matter? We’re on a long march towards a corporate fascist nation followed closely behind a corporate fascist world. Someone please ask the president when he will announce that he is suspending Social Security in order to pay for all the corporate spending.
Better to leave things the way they are, if there is a constitutional convention there will be more changed than just the term of president.
If you want term limits…do not vote the bums back in.
Apparently the majority is happy they keep sending the same
politicians back.
I do agree that their pensions and health coverage is excessive, put them on social security and medicare, then you’ll see how fast the “crisis” is solved. WE have become serf’s by our own doing, revolt and revote in bew pwople if they screw up then vote in another new person…..Right now it’s up to the people, if the DEMONcRATS get away with their little manuver it’ll be up to them, now, which do you want?
Can you say Hugo Chavez? Can you say Dictatorship?
I can see it already, Democrat majority passes it “for the good of the country.” And "in times like these we need to make exceptions to the rule. they say. This better not pass.
This would be a bad idea even in the best of times. We need a two term limit on congress as well as the president.
I am against this bill and speak for many people. No term limits will open the door to a dictatorship in America! This bill needs to be thrown out! I propose term limits for all Senators, Representatives, State, and Local governments! Stop trying to change our Constitution! By the People, For the People and the People do not want this bill!
