Not only should the limit not be removed there should be term limits on congress. It shouldn't be possible for someone to be in office for 15, 20 or 25 years. They loose site of what they are there for. This is why we have some of the problems we have today. The average citizen's voice no longer counts which was proven by all the bailouts. We couldn't vote someone out of congress if we wanted too. Look what Murtha said about his own constituents and still was re-elected!
The simple fact that this piece of legislation was even drafted is ridiculous. Congress should also have a term limit, as well as all representative salaries abolished. You are representing the American people, not politicizing to keep your job.
All you have to do is look at who proposed it, where he's from, and what party he's affiliated with. Then it will all be clear. They're called the "loony left" for a reason!
The terms of the constitution are there for a reason so as to not have a dictatorship that we see in other countries. Allowing unlimited terms would only put us in that type of situation.

You are absolutely right...why is it on the table...if we are not careful and aware of what is happening we could possibly loose all of our rights. Because of the economy, our attention is being diverted and this bill will end up passing. COME ON PEOPLE WAKE UP!!!!! It is time we start standing up and letting the Congress and Senate what we as a people want. They just gave themselves a raise...some of us who are luck to still have jobs much less a raise are not being heard.
As a bill, this may pass, but this is a constitutional amendment. They need 2/3 of both houses to even propose it and 3/4 of the states to pass this. The Senate may be able to get 60 votes that would be needed to pass a regular bill, but not the 67 votes needed to propose an amendment. The Republicans would not allow for Barack Obama to be able to run for more than 2 terms.

Reading some of these bills on this site makes me wonder why is the job not part-time. Seems there is way too much time on congress hands. These are bills written by lawyers, congress members then stick in PORK or whatever that doesn't even pertain to the actual bill. Most congress members are 60 years old and older, have been in the public sector their entire lives. Need term limits, two terms for congress. If you can't do something useful in that time, it won't happen. Also drug testing, random every quarter. People just read some of these bills either congress are HIGH or senile. We don't need Kings

Very interesting timing on this bill. Democratic majority in congress, democratic president, democratic author of the bill and very little on the news. Amazing how many Kool-Aid drinkers are in America and in Congress. Keep presidential term limits and add congressional limits!

We need term limits on presidential, and state and local congressional offices.
Why not consider something more important like Senate Bill 661, The Relative Support Giver Support Act. Now that Hillary Clinton is Secretary of State, will her successor but this bill into the 111th Congress?

In my opinion, I believe ALL public servants, employees and politicians should be limited to ONE year of service.
The 22nd ammendment has actually only been around since 1967 but was previously enforced under the Presidential Sucession Act of 1947 after FDR. I do not think they 22nd ammendment should be repealed. I am curious if this bill made it to the House for debate because Obama is president or would this bill still exist if McCain had won.
This legislation was introduced out of an over-excitement about Obama. Libs see a 12-20 year run in the making. Dont worry, the economy will be so bad by 2012, that Obama wont get 1/3 of the electorate.

The 22nd Amendment, which sets the presidential two-term limit, was proposed on March 21, 1947.
This amendment was specifically rejected by Oklahoma in Jun 1947; and by Massachusetts on Jun 9, 1949.

All I have to say is that this bill is completely absurd and was obviously forumlated by the democraratic party to keep their poster child, Barrak Obama, in the White House as long as possible.
Are they F_ing kidding. It's bad enough we have sworn in a president who has yet to provide proof that he is even ligitimatly elegible; now you want to eliminate term caps so that politicians can continue to manipulate the election results and our democracy can become a ditatorship.
we need to expand on the 22nd amendment to include the senate and the house and limit all federal political appointments to no more than 2 terms. the political Dynasties need to come to an end.
Being a politician should not be a career, but a limited service and then you go find a real job.

Interesting range of comments. As some have said, we need to limit the terms of Congress, as well as the President. FDR did, indeed, hold for terms, but contrary to popular opinion, he did NOT create the economic recovery - the War did. In fact, Obama is copying much of his left wing rhetoric: He wants to bring in his own New Deal, wants to create a new Bill of Rights, a document that would effectively cancel out the purpose of the original Bill of Rights. We have to keep this guy on a leash!! They have now voted in the House and passed the $trillion Welfar bill, and that even included $5billion for Acorn! Well, I guess I shouldn't be surprised: the left is in power, and they are using that power to ensure they keep it. And the whimp Republicans are doing nothing to stop them. We need some Conservatives in Washington who will not kowtow to the most powerful branch of the Democratic party: The Media.
Just the thought of this is absurd. We have enough problems with running politicians out of washington now. Can't we find a statesman to vote for???
