US of A needs to fix the immigration mess that this country has created over the years … this bill will be the first step towards that direction ….

People who are already in this country, earning good money and paying tax (in off course pumping money into social security and other benefits program) and law abiding educataed bunch of fools (yes they are fools as they expected their talent would be much appreciated in this country) would add to the prosperity of this country in the time of recession …

Go Mr. Congressman/woman and make it happen .. USA needs all those money in the saving account (and money transferred out of the country every day back to home country) flowing into the economy – it doesn’t need money borrowed from China rather it needs to free the money within to boost economy out of this ditch …

    All the best ….

sbzg – If this country is in a “mess” and is a “ditch” why do you want to stay here? If you’re a fool for coming to this country to get an advanced education, why did you come and why do you stay? Why should we appreciate your “talent” more than we appreciate the talents of our many citizens?

America doesn’t owe the people who come here to benefit from our education system and economy (as it used to be) anything. The idea of allowing so many student visas isn’t so foreigners can come here, get educated and then stay and take American jobs. It’s so they can get educated and then go home and benefit their families, communities and countries.

If this is such a “ditch” I suggest you go home to paradise.

Paying taxes that are owed because you worked here doesn’t entitle you to anything. Citizens do that as well as “pump money into social security and other benefits programs” that non-citizens, including illegals, benefit from. It’s a PRIVILEDGE for non-citizens to live and work in America, not a RIGHT just because you went to school here, or because you are “highly educated.” WE don’t owe you anything. Especially when you seem so highly non-appreciative of the benefits you’ve had in being allowed to come and stay here. Where’s the gratitude for the opportunity to live and work and benefit from this “ditch” as you call it?

If we want to protect our economy from the “flow of money transferred out of the country everyday back to home country” we can do that by rescinding the priviledge of working here for non-citizens.

The current per country quota system rations brilliance! Punishing an ethinic community for being intelligent is just wrong. The EB2-I category for people with Masters degrees in STEM from American universities is way back in 2000. This is a shame, these are people who will start companies and create employment. Providing justice for such people is long overdue.

    Respected Senators/Governers,

There are many Employment based individuals who are stuck for their Green Cards since more than 9 Years due to Visa unavailibility. This bill will help reduce the backlog of Employment Based Immigration and will help to create the great number of jobs, some of them can start the business, buy houses, if they get GC, which will contribute a big help to strengthen the economy.

    Thanks,
    Abhi.

This bill is a win-win situation for everyone. The US economy will greatly benefit from the investments in housing and other areas by the LEGAL immigrants who have not been able to make investments in US due to the long (10 years and more) backlogs of GC processing and wasted GC visas.

How are legal immigrants “not able” to make investments in this country? There is no law against legal immigrants, or even foreigners without legal resident status, from owning a house or making any other investments. America is one of the few countries in the world that allows so many non-citizens to work.

  • DRreddyt 05/31/2009 10:05am

This bill will not only help those who follow the law, but will also help US economy. Many people who are waiting for 485-approval are waiting on sidelines to buy homes or start businesses. This bill will improve falling home prices and create jobs. I think this is one of the rare situations where every one involved will benefit. At last some senators realized this. Of course big thing is this bill will remove mental agony for around half a million people living in the US.

The job of senators and representatives in American government is to do what is in the best interests of American Citizens. It is not their job to “remove mental agony” for non-citizens - especially if it is at the cost of citizens.

We have the highest rate of unemployment in American since the Great Depression. How is creating opportunities for non-citizens to have and retain jobs a benefit in any way for citizens?

If the citizens of America had jobs, they wouldn’t be losing their houses, so we wouldn’t have the need to have non-citizens come in and buy them in an effort to improve falling home prices. Creating job opportunities for non-citizens doesnt’ create jobs for citizens.

This bill is long overdue. It will bring relief to the families and also help legal immigrants who are languishing in the backlogs due to wasted visas.
Commonsense dictates that when we have qualifying people waiting for 5-10 years on one hand for the visa numbers to be available and we’re wasting a huge number each year due to bureaucracy on the other, something has to be done to correct it. And I think these Senators are on the right path. Kudos to them!

This bill will end the unnecessary wait for Permanent Resident applicants from the oversubscribed countries like Indian and China. This bill provides relief to these applicants and does not hold their professional and personal lives hostage.

This bill does not increase immigration quota but merely brings back the visa numbers that were wasted due to USCIS inefficiency.

passing of this bill is so important for people like us who have been in US paying taxes, working here legally which will help us and US if these unused visa numbers are used and green cards are issued for people like us which will let us to invest here in US.

This bill is very important for law biding legal immigrants, this bill helps in keeping the family united and in reducing Greencard retrogression.

  • varshadas 05/31/2009 11:35am

This a bill that must be passed and enacted. This will help thousands of people and their families get permanent resident status in the USA. These people are hardworking, law abiding citizens for at least last 7-8 yrs. Many of them have homes in the USA. Not having a green card makes one feel very unsettled and in a state of flux unable to make any decisions. It also hurts the careers of individuals, stiffles innovation. People have started returning to their home countries resulting in a reverse brain drain. These types of individuals are highly educated and skilled who provide a competitive edge to the USA. Please pass this bill and help people get their green cards.

When we have such high unemployment rates – highly educated and skilled AMERICANS

  • tliangsea 05/31/2009 12:42pm

As an immigrant who’s been staying in this country for more than 12 years yet still waiting in the queue for GC, I fully support this bill with regards to recapturing of visas (Employment based)that will help LEGAL immigrants on the road to securing permanent legal residency.

  • a112k 05/31/2009 3:24pm

Lot of people waiting on this to buy a Home.
Lets get some more money into the economy.

  • maushah 05/31/2009 4:22pm

The way it works today legal immigration takes more time than “illegal” immigration – this bill seeks to address the above and is one that should be supported by all.

  • janorkar 05/31/2009 6:53pm

Legal Immigrants are proven to be a very peaceful/law abiding group.
-Majority of them are well to do and do have a good savings profile.
-They can (and want to) certainly invest into realty in USA and help the plummeting situation in housing markets here.
-Employment based immigrants are very skilled lot. They are waiting for that magical “Priority Date is CURRENT” news to take a plunge in entrepreneurship etc.
-For Employment based immigrants lack of visa numbers means they have to stick with same employer, their spouses can not work.
-Dear Senators please see the sufferings and emotional distress that is caused to legal immigrants due to lack of visa numbers for filing adjustment of status application with USCIS.
-AFAIK Barack Obama was one of the few guys who talked about Legal Immigrants and their plight.
-I hope he doesnt forget his promises after coming to power like indian politicians do!
-May GOD bless America and the great American Dream :
    )

I would say this Bill would allow people to live a better life. This is the real american dream for thousands of legal immigrants all over US.

  • komalt 05/31/2009 8:31pm

As a legal immigrant, law abiding and tax paying individual, I stand in a line of legal immigrants based on my employment-based green card application which is not moving primarily because of unavailability of VISA numbers. I have lived in this country for close to 10 years now and my application has been as old as 7 years with no idea when VISA numbers will become available. I have been unable to take up any promotion or make a big decision like home buying/selling in US for good in the past 10 years as a result of being stuck in the line. With VISA numbers being recaptured and duly assigned to people who are law abiding, tax paying and who pursue immigration legally, it will tremendously help the US Economy as such legal immigrants make bigger decisions like home buying, settling in the US for good and helping the economy with our specialty skills.

  • yvikrant 06/01/2009 3:53am

Please note that this bill DOES NOT ADD any new immigrants. It only approves the PENDING applications that are stuck due to inefficient processing by USCIS. This is not just good for the economy but this is MORALLY RIGHT THING TO DO – This is about fairness and treating people with dignity and respect. All the anti-immigrants who say “Oh we are for legal immigration. Our problem is with illegal immigration” should step up and support this bill instead of pretending that somehow they support legal immigration.

  • jakubgorecki 06/01/2009 4:31am

I support this bill because it deals with outdated LEGAL immigration system, which causes families to be separated for years. LEGAL immigrants should be rewarded for the fact they obey the law and hence the process to get their green cards should be expedited. It is good to know that the U.S. Senators and Congressmen are aware of the issue of legal immigrants and decade-long wait times for them. I really hope this bill will pass as stand-alone or part of Comprehensive Immigration Reform later this year.

  • Kanwalreena 06/01/2009 5:02am

This Bill will help reducing the backlog in LEGAL Immigration system. Families living in a Limbo situations for more than a decade will be relieved. Thanks to US Senators and congressmen and women who are sponsering and supporting this bill. God bless you and God bless USA.

  • GCapplicant 06/01/2009 5:32am

    Dear Senator/Governers,

This bill is a major relief for the immigrants who are already stuck in the battle for lawful Residence.

We thank Mr.Menendez to bring out a bill like this which is long time due and need for us who are already in the mid of stress, just waiting over a decade and pending paperworks, just for a visa number.

We do need a change …Like Mr.President said his magic word’s " Yes We CAN…"

Hope atleast this time this bill will pass- without any negative impact Atleast this hope God helps us.

  • iserf 06/01/2009 5:47am

    Dear Representatives,
    We are an optimistic lot.
We are peaceful and law abiding individuals.
By virtue of hard work, god’s grace, good education and high skills, we are in the middle to higher earning bracket.
We all pay taxes commensurate with the ernings. Contribute to numerous other “retirement” savings, college funds, insurance etc.
Lot of us have invested in various investment vehicles and contribute a lot to the economy.

Prez. Obama made a promise as candidate Obama. Now it is time to keep it. God Bless.

To those who are against this bill and any other positive immigration reform for those LEGALS in this country, “Oh NO! H-1B are stealing ALL the American jobs! It’s a crime against Americans!” just like the economic crisis, swine flu and, let’s face it, the election of the first African American president you had your time to panic freely about it. Don’t you think there comes a point where you got over the panic attack and restored some sense so to cope with reality?

I applaud this bill because it’s a very balanced and reasonable solution that will help with the current messy situation for us countless legal aliens. In our case to abide by law is neither easy nor cheap. If that law is broken and unfair and attempts to fix it like this bill ever succeed, what’s the meaning of abiding by that law?

True failures are the ones where everyone loses. U.S. immigration has been such a failure. Let’s fix it and let’s succeed together. I want that for myself and for this country.

  • Gade 06/01/2009 6:34am

This bill is a big step in the right direction for reaffirming American family values.

  • rp98075 06/01/2009 6:46am

Supporting this with the hope that it puts an end to the 12 year ordeal of immigration issue that I’m struck with.

  • vijay1974 06/01/2009 6:53am

I am earning close to 170K, paying 50K in Taxes and waiting for elusive GC for last 10 years. I don’t understand why is this process as complicated as it sounds. In other countries, Permanent residency for productive, law abiding, hardworking folks is relatively easier. The United states, the beacon of fairness makes the life of folks who are working in this great country for last 10-15 years so much difficult.
But then life doesn’t treat everyone fair..
