Lot of people waiting on this to buy a Home.
Lets get some more money into the economy.
The way it works today legal immigration takes more time than "illegal" immigration - this bill seeks to address the above and is one that should be supported by all.
-Legal Immigrants are proven to be a very peaceful/law abiding group.
-Majority of them are well to do and do have a good savings profile.
-They can (and want to) certainly invest into realty in USA and help the plummeting situation in housing markets here.
-Employment based immigrants are very skilled lot. They are waiting for that magical "Priority Date is CURRENT" news to take a plunge in entrepreneurship etc.
-For Employment based immigrants lack of visa numbers means they have to stick with same employer, their spouses can not work.
-Dear Senators please see the sufferings and emotional distress that is caused to legal immigrants due to lack of visa numbers for filing adjustment of status application with USCIS.
-AFAIK Barack Obama was one of the few guys who talked about Legal Immigrants and their plight.
-I hope he doesnt forget his promises after coming to power like indian politicians do!
-May GOD bless America and the great American Dream :-)
I would say this Bill would allow people to live a better life. This is the real american dream for thousands of legal immigrants all over US.
As a legal immigrant, law abiding and tax paying individual, I stand in a line of legal immigrants based on my employment-based green card application which is not moving primarily because of unavailability of VISA numbers. I have lived in this country for close to 10 years now and my application has been as old as 7 years with no idea when VISA numbers will become available. I have been unable to take up any promotion or make a big decision like home buying/selling in US for good in the past 10 years as a result of being stuck in the line. With VISA numbers being recaptured and duly assigned to people who are law abiding, tax paying and who pursue immigration legally, it will tremendously help the US Economy as such legal immigrants make bigger decisions like home buying, settling in the US for good and helping the economy with our specialty skills.
Please note that this bill DOES NOT ADD any new immigrants. It only approves the PENDING applications that are stuck due to inefficient processing by USCIS. This is not just good for the economy but this is MORALLY RIGHT THING TO DO - This is about fairness and treating people with dignity and respect. All the anti-immigrants who say "Oh we are for legal immigration. Our problem is with illegal immigration" should step up and support this bill instead of pretending that somehow they support legal immigration.
I support this bill because it deals with outdated LEGAL immigration system, which causes families to be separated for years. LEGAL immigrants should be rewarded for the fact they obey the law and hence the process to get their green cards should be expedited. It is good to know that the U.S. Senators and Congressmen are aware of the issue of legal immigrants and decade-long wait times for them. I really hope this bill will pass as stand-alone or part of Comprehensive Immigration Reform later this year.
This Bill will help reducing the backlog in LEGAL Immigration system. Families living in a Limbo situations for more than a decade will be relieved. Thanks to US Senators and congressmen and women who are sponsering and supporting this bill. God bless you and God bless USA.
Dear Senator/Governers,
This bill is a major relief for the immigrants who are already stuck in the battle for lawful Residence.
We thank Mr.Menendez to bring out a bill like this which is long time due and need for us who are already in the mid of stress, just waiting over a decade and pending paperworks, just for a visa number.
We do need a change ...Like Mr.President said his magic word's " Yes We CAN..."
Hope atleast this time this bill will pass- without any negative impact Atleast this hope God helps us.
Dear Representatives,
We are an optimistic lot.
We are peaceful and law abiding individuals.
By virtue of hard work, god's grace, good education and high skills, we are in the middle to higher earning bracket.
We all pay taxes commensurate with the ernings. Contribute to numerous other "retirement" savings, college funds, insurance etc.
Lot of us have invested in various investment vehicles and contribute a lot to the economy.
Prez. Obama made a promise as candidate Obama. Now it is time to keep it. God Bless.
To those who are against this bill and any other positive immigration reform for those LEGALS in this country, "Oh NO! H-1B are stealing ALL the American jobs! It's a crime against Americans!" just like the economic crisis, swine flu and, let's face it, the election of the first African American president you had your time to panic freely about it. Don't you think there comes a point where you got over the panic attack and restored some sense so to cope with reality?
I applaud this bill because it's a very balanced and reasonable solution that will help with the current messy situation for us countless legal aliens. In our case to abide by law is neither easy nor cheap. If that law is broken and unfair and attempts to fix it like this bill ever succeed, what's the meaning of abiding by that law?
True failures are the ones where everyone loses. U.S. immigration has been such a failure. Let's fix it and let's succeed together. I want that for myself and for this country.
This bill is a big step in the right direction for reaffirming American family values.
Supporting this with the hope that it puts an end to the 12 year ordeal of immigration issue that I'm struck with.
I am earning close to 170K, paying 50K in Taxes and waiting for elusive GC for last 10 years. I don't understand why is this process as complicated as it sounds. In other countries, Permanent residency for productive, law abiding, hardworking folks is relatively easier. The United states, the beacon of fairness makes the life of folks who are working in this great country for last 10-15 years so much difficult.
But then life doesn't treat everyone fair..
Yes this bill will go a long way in addressing the severe backlogs faced by professionals and scientists who have been waiting LEGALLY in the long never ending queues. Once they get GCs they will buy homes, cars and invest freely
which will strengthen the economy and get us out of recession.
Please do not screw the people who have LEGALLY ABIDED by the system, people who wait their turn and pay their fees.
This is good opportunity to add some stimulus to the US economy by re-capturing the Green Cards (GC) which were wasted due to administrative delays and for each GC that is approved using this re-captured quota a additional fee should be charged. There are more than 200K LEGAL immigrants waiting to get GC. So the amount will be enough to fund a stimulus package.
This plan also does not hurt the employment issue of US nationals as it does not add more job for immigrants.
This bill will not change existing immigration policy but correct bureaucratic mistakes. Qualified legal immigrants are suffering from inefficiency in the government agencies like USCIS and DOS. It is only fair to pass this bill and put the immigration system back on track.
This bill will only give GC to legal immigrants without taking away jobs from US citizens.
Please vote yes on this bill. I have been in the US Legally for over 15 years. Have contributed my share of income, and payroll taxes. This bill will help millions like me who have been legally waiting in line forever.
I've enough cash to buy a house.
Within few days of getting green card I'll buy a house.
It is the right thing to do.
Long overdue action. As the bil is capturing only the unused visas, this should be acceptable to both sides if immigration debate. I would add that please kill that diversity visa program and re allocate that to these catgories including investor visas.
I would like to add one more thing. The USCIS released their performance report today and even they have acknowledged that the applications filed in July 2007 will take years to get their green cards. This further emphasizes the need to pass this bill.
This will help the lawfully abiden immigrants who have been only seeking a fair shot at their permanent residence dream for a long time (typically as long as a decade).
Wish this bill a good luck.
i am one of thousands HUMAN BEINGS suffering a lot, separated from his/her families, and nothing at hands able to do except asking you to help ..
support this bill and urge you to do your best and help us
i agree with this words This bill helps the U.S. economy by -
1. Relieving the emotional stress on families that are waiting to re-unite, and hence helping them be more productive. A happy family can make decisions about job, career and other matters that will make them a more productive contributor to the society and economy.
2. The bill DOES NOT invite more immigrants to the U.S. that would challenge the American workforce. It merely helps make life easier for immigrants that are already in the U.S. and are already legal, tax-paying contributors to the economy.
3. The bill DOES NOT require a major shift in immigration policy. It is merely asking to adjust for some bureaucratic delays that were not intended to happen as part of the immigration law.
This bill will go a long way towards solving the current housing crisis. I know many of my friends, who have I-140 approved but still waiting to file I-485 , they are not buying house because I-485 not applied/approved it. If it happens at least we will have another 500k-1 Million new home buyers in the market, which would definitely bring stabilization to the falling home prices and it would be a big step towards solving the economic crisis of USA.
Keep the US$ here where it belongs. Help Permanent Residence's families reunited. Vote Yes!
Please understand that legal immigration is a different issue from illegal immigration. Legal immigrants have lived in US for years, acquired good (sometimes the best) education, paid taxes, bought assets and contributed to the well being of the society.
These legal immigrants deserve the status and this bill will grant them the same. Please support the bill!!
This bill is long overdue. Legal immigrants work hard and have always contributed a lot to America and are continuing to do so. This bill is going to help the skilled immigrant community and also bring families together.
I support this bill for the following reason:
By capturing the previously un-used employment visas will help to become permanent resident, and will boost the confidence in buying homes and in other investments by creating small businesses and ther by increasing the income of the country.
