Other numbers to call to urge them to prioritze passage of S1647 on Finance Committee:
Senator Lindsay Graham-Washington Office-(202) 224-5972; Pee Dee Regional Office-(843) 669-1505
Senator DeMint-Washington Office-(202) 224-6121; Charleston Office-(843) 727-4525
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid-Washington Office-(202) 224-3542
Senate Finance Chairman Max Baucus-Washington Office-(202) 224-4515( Senator Baucus is advocating making the extension 17 weeks). Call

ca23 09/30/2009 10:47am

I called the Senate Finance Committee to find out status. It will go to a vote soon maybe next week. Senator Baucus from has suggested an additional 4 weeks be added which would make it a 17 week extension. This would be great but it will then have to go to a vote in the house again for passage. President is at IOC so even if it passes this week it wouldn’t be signed until next week.

Please call your senators and Senate Finance Committee @ 202-224-4515. We need to keep the pressure on!!!! The more pressure will help send this from committee to a vote on the Senate floor.

It looks like it’ll be the end of the month before this bill gets voted on. Hopefully it won’t take that long…

We as American citizens want to work and support ourselves so that we may pursue the American dream. It is our legal right! We have had that right taken away (through no fault of our own) by a government that fails to address the issues that keep us unemployed and issues that induce unemployment. Issues like creating good paying jobs, companies that send our work overseas, illegal’s entering our country taking jobs from its citizens. As long as my government fails to address these issues that keep American citizens unemployed, the government that I elected, needs to keep extending unemployment benefits to those who are in need.

canalguyopen 08/25/2009 9:22am

By the time they get off their ass and back to work and vote our homes will already be gone.

cowboybill117 08/25/2009 2:05pm

This bill should already be law. People can not look for work when they are looking for their next meal and have no place to live. I can not believe that this country has forgotten it’s people,in favor of people overseas.Stop sending our money to other countries until the American people are working again.I am 66 years old, retired and army vet.I will be on the street the end of sept.because my age is to old for most employers.America is self destructing with this new Congress.

So S1647 is still with the finance committee awaiting changes before it goes to the Senate for vote. The process could take up to a couple of weeks. So we all need to put pressure on our senators to urge passage of this bill.

Here is article link which has number to Harry Reid
’s Office

I called Senator Reid’s office today and his staff person said that their should be a vote this week.
I also called Senate Finance Committee, Senator Baucus amended the bill to give 17 weeks to states at 8.5% or above but Senator Sheehan is also amending the bill to add an additional weeks for all states(4 more weeks?). Technically, the bill has moved out of committee but that they are waiting for unanimous consent to move the bill to the Senate floor for full votes. She says that potentially the full Senate vote could happen this week.

If it is good for one, it should be good for all. That is the latest rub.

I’m here!! I’ll try to post over here as well as HR 3404:)

ca23 10/01/2009 3:34pm

Senators sent letter 9/30 reHR 3548 feeling it left out 22 other states that did not meet the 8.5% requirement to senate finance committee news release shown on unemployment friends forum

link: http://unemployed-friends.forumotion.com/unemployment-news-f54/news-release-senators-letter-to-finance-committee-include-all-states-t333.htm

It will be good to include other states but this will likely delay passage so keep up those calls…

Yes. Keep the pressure on. I contacted both my senators and Harry Reid’s office. You can also go the U.S. Senate page and send e-mails to your senator’s and Harry Reid. Flood them with calls and e-mails.

brunettenextdoor 09/15/2009 9:13am

Anyone have any info on the meeting today? I don’t find any mention of either HR3404, 3548 or S1647 on the clerks office schedule at http://clerk.house.gov/floorsummary/floor.html

I did read a good article I saw posted on another board with the link that sounds promising:

Tuesday, September 15, 2009 .Senator promises quick action on extending unemployment benefits
Deb Price / Detroit News Washington Bureau
Washington —

Baucus made these comments at the end of a hearing by his committee to look at options to deal with 1.4 million unemployed workers — including 100,000 Michiganians — facing their last unemployment check at the end of the year.

The chairman of a key Senate committee said today Congress will act quickly on legislation extending unemployment benefits to the nation’s jobless.

Why do more people support HR3404 than this bill? This bill helps 4 more states and is on the Senate committees calendar for 9/15 but 3404 isn’t even scheduled yet.

yankees2009 09/09/2009 9:06am

people we must call and email and pester our reps in the senate to get this thing moving. its not enough that its on the schedule (although its a start), we must press this forward and let these folks in washington that the unemployment crisis is this country is real and people need help. keep calling and emailing. these people work for YOU.

NoGoodOnesLeft 09/09/2009 9:17am

In MA, I only have Kerry and I don’t think anyone there even reads his e-mails. With 6867, he never even responded to all my e-mails. At least Kennedy did even if it was a lot of hoopla that didn’t really say anything. Yes, I’ve e-mailed Reid and Pelosi, too.
