Yes, who do people want to replace Pelosi with—John Kyl? Tom Coburn? Or maybe Rand Paul, who would probably do away with all government programs altogether if he had the chance, including Social Security. Let’s get real here. Pelosi may not be a saint and saviour, but before rushing to vote for cutting our own throats, everyone should think at least two steps ahead.
rofl nancy… i could think of 1,000,000 better people to replace pelosi with… its funny you mention kyl because that aint who we would replace her with… just sit back relax… this country is going to vote all the bullshiters out this november and we will vote for someone else because we are tired of this bs. im so sorry to tell you but some gov programs do need to be cut. there needs to be term limits and a mandatory retirement age for positions so we can get fresh people and not career politicians who are so disconnected with the public like ried/pelosi/obama etc. and social security is a scare tactic used by democrats to con people into thinking its going to be taken away. yea maybe for people my age – not you nancy.
I thought this was going to be impossible, but it seems like so many other things, it just take political will:

However, my understanding is this wouldn’t happen til January. Better late than never, I suppose.
Well, maybe the filibuster could be replaced with a 2/3 vote to pass any bills. A simple majority would mean that 51% of the senate could ignore the wishes of the remaining 49%.
Ahem…just so happens that’s what it says in the Constitution! Rule of the majority with protections for the minority via the checks and balances of the 3 major branches of government and also via the two separate houses of Congress. Instead of what we currently have—almost total control of Congress of the minority.
The filibuster never was in the Constitution, which specifically calls for rule by a majority, not 60%. And the filibuster rule in the Senate never even existed until 1917, intended to limit debate with cloture, not freeze any movement of legislation!
2)
On top of that, the current filibuster bears no resemblance to what it was prior to the 70s, when they changed it, so that instead of a requirement to be present and talk your opponent down, any Senator could simply “mail it in”—i.e., make a “procedural filibuster” to delay or stop a bill. A far cry from Jimmy Stewart as Mr. Smith!
In short, it’s a ridiculous bad HABIT the Senate has kept around all these years. They may not get rid of it entirely, but it should definitely be modified back to its original intention and limitations.
typo—control of Congress by the minority, not of the minority.
are you from the huffington post lady?
HOPE and FAITH: 99ers UNITED! http://www.examiner.com/examiner/x-27052-Rochester-Unemployment-Examiner~y2010m7d25-99er-unemployment-legislation-countdown-5-days-Schumer-will-write-bill-but-needs-one-Republican
I just saw a great T-shirt: simple black with big white lettering—“99ers VOTE”.
Awesome saying! I wonder if they sell that on etsy or cafepress?
I seen a T-Shirt..simple white in big red letters – I NEED A JOB..
Local government revenue has dwindled so severely that U.S. cities and counties will have to cut hundreds of thousands of jobs in the coming months, leaving communities without basic services and pressuring jobless rates, according to a new survey.
A friend of mine is going back to school for a social service position ..Looks like thats not going to help her much..

NOTE: Because Colorado has had 8 percent unemployment for three months in a row, we can now pay seven more weeks. See the next section.
- If you ran out of money by July 24 and you kept requesting payment on CUBLine Online or CUBLine:
o We are presuming that you wanted to sign up for state extended benefits. o We can release your payments by early next week (week of August 1) Remember that we send your payments to your debit card or your bank account, as you told us. o We can pay you for the weeks since June 6 up to the present for all the weeks you requested.http://www.colorado.gov/cs/Satellite/CDLE-UnempBenefits/CDLE/1248095315687
Slavery bill H.R. 5741 is now in debate
http://www.examiner.com/x-60483-Long-Beach-City-Buzz-Examiner~y2010m7d26-Slavery-bill-HR-5741-is-now-in-debate
I really wish these Examiner.com people would do their political homework before they start typing. Rangel has introduced that bill over the years several times, and it is nonsense to call it a slavery bill and freak out about it because it’s only a symbolic gesture bill to protest the non-involvement of the rest of the country in the war effort while military families bear the brunt of it all.
He and Congress and more informed writers know full well that the bill would never pass. Other Senators, like Sanders, for example, introduce bills just to promote debate and make a statement at times. Sometimes these bills are ridiculous, sometimes outrageous, but never an actual attempt at legislation, only a attempt at promoting discussion.
2)
In contrast to what this writer seems to think are Rangel’s purposes for the bill, Rangel actually objects to the amount of time servicemen and women are having to spend deployed and wants them all to come home. Witness the disproportionate number of minorities and poor enlisted compared to whites and sons and daughters of more wealthy families.
Whatever one thinks of Rangel’s ethics mess or maybe his bad timing in bringing up this bill in a year of growing paranoia over the government, his goal is to bring the troops home, not enlist more of them!
nancy rangel is a criminal just like the rest of them. in fact he is under investigation right now. http://www.infowars.com/h-r-5741-slave-bill-now-in-committee/ is why its being called the slave bill. since you are so biased its unreal you should take your own advice and do your homework. since your probably over the age they mention it doesn’t include you. but what if they forced you to work? you would whine like a baby. so don’t bs the rest of us trying to be a columnist for the left. i’ve told you all before. come november this country is going to vote all the dems out. we are tired of this socialist ‘do as i say, not as i do’ bull.

Well there you have ..no job growth any time soon..
hey sassy hows it going. i was just wondering what state you were from and if your still on a tier of benefits? you sound angry. i’ve been without since january this year.
Ohio, job field-manufacturing, Im a 99er… Anger, hopeless, depression, is coming from No job growth after 2 years ..Jobs are sooo hard to find,I can’t find one can you?..My county if you count the under-employed and the unemployed is close to 30%.. I have resourses to pay most of my bills ..But would rather have a Job..I want to relocate but have no $$$ to do that at the moment ..If there was a Tier 5 I would save all of it by not paying no bills and move to another state that has a lower unemployment rate..I should have done it with Tier 3 and 4 ..but Naive me thought there would be jobs by now…
i know people in ohio. same here about the unemployment.
its the same everywhere. we have heard people say they were working on a 99er extension since january but obviously its all talk. what will be interesting is to see what we do as we get closer to november as they try and buy votes again.

Well said!!! Remember one of the extensions sponsored by democrats had to be attached to the war bill last year!!! Bush and republicans had no problems signing it!!!
rofl. so far out there. hello reality. come november we are voting all the dems out. your pal obama is keeping all the wars going so i think you need to apply the same standard ‘gun ho’ to him for not ending all wars and funding… oh and didn’t he renew some kind of ‘patriot act’???? where is the outrage over that or did you look the other direction when obama did that too? hypocrite
are you seriously saying that it is in the best interest of the long term unemployed to vote for Ben Nelson and Baucus while at the same time voting again Snowe and Collins?
