Worst idea ever. Let’s think about this. You know how the credit card databases are constantly being hacked and stolen? Think about that with medical records.

After many years of schlepping all my med records with me from Doctor to Doctor to Specialist, being able to just “swipe” a medical id card and have all my info show up is a God sent opportunity. This act will also make filing and receiving requests for reimbursements to both the Doctor and to myself oh so much easier. As for credit card databases being hacked; I’d have to agree to a certain extent. My main concern is discrimiation based on past medical history.

This bill enacts the federalization of everyone’s most private medical records into a searchable electronic database!! Do you understand how dangerous this is? No government should have access to this kind of information because:

    1) it will be misused in ways you haven’t considered
    2) it will be hacked into & stolen
    3) it can be used to implement government mandates, from forced vaccinations, dietary monitoring, withholding of care to selected individuals, etc.

Totalitarian regimes would’ve given anything for a database like this! And we’re so unaware in this country we think hey, what a great idea, less paperwork for me! Do your homework QUICK because we’re already deep into totalitarian territory like frogs in the pot of boiling water.

I understand the fears that arrise with this bill, however, this would reduce health cost, in turn lowering insurance costs, and many other fees. Now, to try and curb some fears, the Veterans Affairs uses an almost exact replica of what this bill proposes. As a military person myself, medical accessability is bar none, due to the consilidation of an electronic medical file.

A few years ago there was an infiltration into VA medical records were aproximately 250,000 service men and women (retired and active) were comprimised, out of millions of records stored on file. This action caused a complete review and reconstruction of the security measures imposed on the electronic system. Since then there have been zero incidents.

The overall positives to this bill were be benificial in the end. Besides, in todays technologically advancing world, there is no information that is truly secure.

Sorry DJ, I beg to differ. Perhaps, because you are a military person, you aren’t aware how far down the pike we are in this nation toward classic fascism. Please consider that your thinking has been shaped by your military experience, that it may be hard for you to see why the federal government should not be trusted with sensitive information about its citizens.

I’ve studied this subject for 30 years and I can’t stress strongly enough how dangerous this is. Governments are not benign entities. They constantly move toward more control of their populations, more invasiveness, more surveillance, because that is their nature. The founding fathers sternly warned us about the very federal government they brought into existence.

NOTE: Not all of us are military persons nor would we ever choose to be. I do not want military-style health care / records-tracking made mandatory for every US citizen.

This bill is the beginning of creating the platform for Nationalized Health Care! Where in the constitution does it state “health care” is a right. There will always be persons of lesser and greater means, to each a reward of his ability.
In creating a nationalized system we drag EVERYONE down as to meet the needs of those of lesser ability. Life is not fair, so if we use this premise to justify health care for all where does the equalizing end.
I don’t have a million dollar house, that’s not fair, so I want the government to step in and take my neighbors house so that we both may have homes of equal (or fair) value.
This fairness and equality concept has gone too far! This country was founded on hard work and integrity. Social welfare programs only enable those who lack motivation to maintain status quo.

Then DJ, I’ll pay more. I will not compromise my privacy nor my rights for the sake of saving a dollar.

If this bill had wording strong enough to state equivocally that the IT infrastructure this bill would pro-port to build would not outsource patient/hospital/insurance records maintenance to a foreign country, I would vote for it. We need to set clear limits though on corporations, insurers, and the government to prevent such information leaking. As a matter of individual privacy, offshoring/insourcing (h1b) workers should not have access to private information of this nature, thereby they should not be allowed to work on computers/servers that contain this information. As a practice, and due to this, offshoring/insourcing (h1b) this type of functional administration in information technology should be outlawed.
