Veterans have given so much for this country, it is tragic that it has taken this long for such a bill to be passed. I am disappointed that it restricts the monetary assistance to caregivers only to veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan. I do not understand why all veterans with 100% disability are not included in this bill. Keeping veterans out of nursing homes or hospitals and taken care of by family caregivers will cost the Government much less than what the Government is putting out today.
My husband is a 100% disabled veteran from the Vietnam era. The Government pays an agency for only 15 hours a week to care for him in our home. I am not working outside of our home anymore as his condition is deteriorating. Iraq and Afghanistan Veteran caregivers are no less off financially than those veteran’s caregivers from previous conflicts and wars.
