I’m not sure what this bill is trying to get at…but IF it’s trying to make “facilities” in a war zone (say Iraq) meet federal standards of safety, then I’d have to give this a definite thumbs down.

Military commanders have a vested interest in keeping their troops safe. There isn’t much incentive for them to provide an environment that might result in lower readiness levels. On the other end of the spectrum, if the military was forced to attempt to bring all facilities up to the federal guidelines, the cost of those upgrades would have to come from budgets that are already struggling to provide adequate equipment to carry out the mission.

Bottomline, let the commanders in the field determine how best to take care of the troops. Afterall, there’s a reason why those commanders are commissioned and promoted through the approval of congress and the president.
