The House has come up with a posturing move. But again, they will end up compromising. These bills are too important to this country and the people, such as ourselves, are not going to let it die.
Have you been writing and emailing each day or at least 3 days a week the people who can make this happen? It works…trust me. In talking with Senator Isakson’s office last time, they do pay attention especially when enough people are commenting.
Great article and very much on point…the comments at the bottom were perfect and would make more sense.
Thanks for sharing.
Mrs. Chang: I finally bit the bullet and applied for F.S. today. I was there more than five hours. I did not go prepared for such a long day, and was nearly ready to faint by the time I left. I am pretty sure I will wake up tonight with a pounding heart because of the strain. They gave me an emergency electronic benefit card (I am tapped out, cash wise) and it’s prorated, so not much. My regular monthly amount is only $176, in other words less than $6 per day. I don’t know how I will survive on that, but this was necessary. I was disappointed to find out that to qualify for any kind of cash aid, you have to have (here in CA) less than $50 in resources. Unbelievable. Everything (my life) is at risk, and I cannot find work. I am going to check the other forum (nancym posted a link) for other resources that may be able to help. i should have done this a LONG time ago (FS), but just could not bring myself to do it. i waited until i had no other choice. too late, in other word
That’s great, GDCal. It’s the first step in this long journey back to financial stability. I thought single people would get a little over $200 so the $176 amount is puzzling. The cash assistance is weird, with its invasive and complicated questionnaire. We’d all much prefer to have a job.
Best of luck in your search for other resources. Do keep us posted.
House Democrats Put Forward Tier V Legislation, Extending Unemployment Benefits for 99ers
By Annie Lowrey 8/10/10 5:47 PM
Today, returned from the six-week August recess to vote on the state aid bill, House Democrats put forward legislation to create a fifth tier of unemployment benefits. Last week, Senate Democrats put forward similar legislation. Reps. Shelley Berkley (D-Nev.) and Jim McDermott (D-Wash.) cosponsored the legislation creating a fifth tier of benefits, extending the maximum number of weeks of federal and state benefits to 119 in states with unemployment rates over 10 percent. Currently, sixteen states and the District of Columbia would qualify.
Only 16 states? Let’s see who doesn’t qualify…
Connecticut – 8 votes (My home state)
Massachusetts – 10 votes
Missouri – 8 votes
New Jersey – 13 votes
New York – 29 votes
Texas – 32 votes
There is 100
NAYvotes right there.Won’t pass.
I don’t think it would even pass Way and Means.
Are you talking about S3706?
All states with an unemployment rate of 7.5% or higher would qualify.
Sorry, you are talking about HR 6091
Yes Dodd sucks, but at least some of us CT unemployed were able to convince him to leave us with a good impression on his way out, and sign on to this bill.
Perfect – put the facts out there…not the anger. You go!
They will not buy my vote, my family or most of my friends votes. Call and let them know it does not just matter “IF” they vote for tier V that your vote also rides on “WHEN” they pass it or provide us real jobs, not just new job numbers that are not factual.
Wow! I am gone one day and all stuff breaks loose.
First of all, some form of the bill will probably pass. It will more than likely be a compromise just as the last one was…somewhere between 10 – 20 weeks for states somewhere between 7.5 and 10%.
Are they trying to “buy” votes? Of course they are, they did last time. But this is not about that. This is about helping us stay afloat.
My financial reality check this morning was an eye opener, but we still need to remain positive and tell our stories. “They” are watching the comments on here. Let’s stop the bashing and show support for each other. Don’t let this site become a sewer as S.1966 did. It does not help anyone.
Does anyone have a bill number for the newly introduced house bill, such as it is?
H.R.6091 – To provide for further additional emergency unemployment compensation.

I hope they are not back to that old game of leaving out much of the country with an extension.
Infighting is the last thing we need.
The House is crazy to try to take away some of the support from the few Democrat Senators that support Tier5 now.
Watch tomorrow……….
‘99ers’ looking for help, plan to hold rally on Wall St. to demand unemployment benefits.
They’re staging a protest rally on Wall Street Thursday at Federal Hall, just steps from the New York Stock Exchange, where they will demand that Congress broaden unemployment benefits to include them.

This needs to be done every day until we get help, not just for 1 hour on 1 particular day.
The assholes in DC are in campaign mode now & we need to be showing up & protesting at each & everyone of their rallies, whenever & wherever possible. We are invisible to them. We need to roar, we need a voice, we need to be seen & heard. The gloves need to come off. It’s well past time they feel the heat.
Thats right JoHamm! I live way out in the middle of nowhere but the senators will be twenty miles from here on there campaign! And I will be there screaming like a stuck pig!!

Manufacturing is over in America unless we get rid of the greed and NAFTA we will never make our own goods again, sad but true!
The thing is there are no jobs, any new jobs are getting perfected and outsourced. The new jobs are in health care the baby boomers are getting to retirement age so there’s your job creation, growing old..
jgallop…this company ecd has been around for a while and have been building new sites in greenville michigan and elsewhere in michigan over the past 10 years…a girlfriend of mine work for them in rochester hills mi……they built 2 solar cells for about 12 million each and could not sell them……..so they made plans to build 20 more….wtf
484,000 new claims up 2,000. If Congress can’t understand this vote them out. Screw them if they don’t act on this as an emergency they will see sooner or later people will just start stealing and robbing people ect. This is a National Security issue .
30,000 unexpectedly turn out in Georgia for public housing sign-up

This was so sad…really telling about the state of things. 62 were hurt in the melee…alot of desperation in the State of Georgia, especially Atlanta. And all we here are layoffs and shutdowns…schools laying off teachers…more furlough days…etc.
And they wonder if we REALLY need these bills to pass.
Get on the horn and call, get on your computers and write, fax. Do not let up. When they return they won’t be able to get into their offices – LOL
Very few want to be unemployed, small businesses have been the backbone of this country. If Congress and our lawmakers would stop running up behind large corporations and help more small business owners this country would be much better off.
Like it’s been said before, hopefully this will get news coverage
