3706 makes since if it is not retroactive being that it would then put all of the unemployed on the same page come the end of november, regardless of when they became unemployed it would make it so that future extension would apply to all of the unemployed.

It does not make since for a seasonal landscaper to qualify for over two years of benefits when he gets laid off at the end of summer when there is no way to no what the economy will be like in two years, by letting the current tiers expire and then having everyone start over on 3706 it would mean that the long term unemployed will no longer discriminated against and that all who need help will get it while it is still necessary and the newly unemployed will not be guaranteed 2 + years of benefits when the of help may not be needed 2 years from now.

It would also get rid of the 99 week and 119 week numbers that are being held against us, it would make 46 current maximum amount of weeks some one laid off could qualify for so if more weeks are added they can say they are extending the maximum from 46 weeks to 66 weeks as opposed to saying they are extending them from 119 to 139.

It would also make it much easier for the states to administer

Does anyone think there is a chance that bill S3706 will even be looked at before they get back from vacation in September? I have been without a check since march 30th. If they do not do anything with this till mid September, by the time we get a check it could be Mid October. That will be 7 months without a check for most of us, WOW!!!!!!

chances are nothing will happen until after the November elections and it is possible they will not come back for a lame duck session after the election which would mean no action on the bill till January, realistically if anything is done you probably won’t see anything if anything till February or march of next year. December at the absolute soonest but that is very unlikely.

the same thing happened in 2008 they did not allow for a vote on 3548? until after the November election they were not suppose to come back until January but came back for an emergency session for a bank or car company bailout if i remember right which meant we didn’t have to wait until January for a vote on 3548, many of us did not see the money till after Christmas.

correction it was 6787 that passed after the election in 2008, 3548 was the one that they passed after the election in 2009

John, I believe there is a very slim chance it could possibly pass before the election. There are too many democrats who are struggling in the polls and this may be a way for them to garner votes. Whatever works.

I, too have been without a job since May, 2008 and with the way the State of Georgia works these UI extensions, my last check was the end of February, 2010 with the various breaks inbetween. Now it has been 6 months with no appreciable dollars. Friends feed me and the chuch gives me gas money for a 10 year old gas guzzler…more to get to church on Wednesday and Sunday. One sweet person left money in my box at church (I handle our parish functions) which was amazing. Still don’t know who that was.

My point is somehow we are still surviving because we are survivors. There are lots of platitudes, etc. that can be cited, but hand in there…we will be okay and the bill will pass sooner than later…IhopeIhopeIhope – LOL

according the the house calendar the last day the the house is scheduled to work this year is October 8th, Nancy Pelosi said that she will not address unemployment benefits again until after the election. That means unless things change the soonest they will look at this is January

I know i will not be able to last till January without a check and i don’t know how many of us can make it that long. By then it will be 9 months without a check, that is crazy. They are spending money on a million other stupid things and they can not help us out. I pray that they come to there senses very soon because there are a lot of people that are going to be on the street.

stuff that has helped my family to survive has been buying in bulk, we buy 25-50lb bags of flour, rice and beans, we saw pasta for 50 cents a pound on a clearance sale and bought over 200 lbs, we buy cooking oil in the 5 gallon industrial sized jugs. That stuff, a big garden and a fishing license have helped a lot. Being an old man competing with 10 year olds to mow lawns for $10 bucks a pop is embarrassing but we are not starving.

My state just qualified for 7 more weeks, we ran out of benefits the end of January this year, when we start getting checks again i am going to get one male and 3 female meat rabbits, one 10Lb female meat rabbit an produce 320 pounds of meat a year, you can feed them weeds and grass if you have to, we should have enough garden scraps to keep them going.

I have been unemployed since January 2008 and i do not remember there being a gap this long between checks ever. i do remember going 4 months once but never any longer.

Hopefully what is different about this bill from bills in the past is the fact that the Stimulus package is tanking. It may have saved some jobs, but it sure hasn’t created them as anticipated. More and more people are joining the ranks of the 99’ers every week and there is no sign that the private sector is going to start investing in job creation. I don’t need to tell a 99’er just how desperate the situation has become, but I can sure try to convince those who are not that it is way past time to pass a bill like this!

And a good morning to you.

Hope is a good thing! I have lots of it and want to pass it around.

Most of the news, good or bad, that we get before September is strictly speculation. We will need to watch once Congress comes back to work.

Thanks for being so upbeat, John, we need more like you!

I agree 100%…I wish we could get this across to the others. Seems the negative bunch from S.1699 have migrated over here. What can you do? They will never learn that the negativism helps no one. Hopefully it makes them feel better to rant and rave and rant and rave, etc.

Speculation in th enews has been around since the caveman started printing news on stone tablets…not worth reading…but it sells papers and stirs people up.

Problem is around here you have to go through tons of garbage to find a nugget of good information. So much fun!
