No, you both miss the point. They are illegally in the US, according to the law. If you illegally parked your car somewhere, unknowingly, but then someone said to you “hey, is that your car parked in the fire lane?” Would you, or would you not immediately go move your car? Well, the children we are discussing here (re: the “DREAM” act) are old enough to know that they are breaking the law (they are college- and military-age, after all) and they should know full well that they need to rectify their residency status and become legal (or if they have been convicted of other crimes or are in any other way ineligible to receive citizenship or a temporary work Visa, they should leave the country).

I know you are saying “how can we just kick people out of the country who have lived here most of their lives? That is so cruel.” To that I say, “Life is not fair sometimes… and I have proof. The illegal immigrant population has been costing me tax dollars (and, unlike the virtually every illegal immigrant, I pay quite a bit in taxes every single year), which is VERY unfair.”

do you not understand???? these children are innocent! they did not choose to be here! they were brought here by their parents! they are not the CRIMINALS!!!

what you are implying, ronodie, is that if your father kills someone, and goes to jail, that you, their child, would be punished for his crime? these children are not CRIMINALS! they are MINORS who have worked hard in the difficult situation that they have been forced into. open your mind and understand that if you are under 21, you cannot file legally, your parents must do it for you and if your parents do it for you, it can take from 10-12 years. do some research and use your mind instead of posting uninformed, immature comments.

Hero, if you have no problem paying high taxes to pay for illegal immigrants, please feel free to do so (this is a free country after all). But many (actually the large majority) of the US citizens do not want to pay for these people.

Second, please stop calling people names because of the beliefs that they hold. I don’t see anyone on here calling you “ignorant” because of your position on this issue.

Well I think that they should pass the DREAM ACT! Why? Because not just because they are immigrants everyone has a right for an education, also just a fact that most forget about it that this country is made out of immigrants from EUROPE, MEXICO, CENTRAL AND SOUTH AMERICA, AFRICA, ASIA, and the list keeps on going! The only true Americans are the Native Americans cause the rest are Germans, Italians, Irish, British, French, etc. We shouldn’t discriminate anyone because every family has a past and in order to have a better future they had to Immigrate and that’s where your heritage comes from! Think, then judge! If their was no immigrants this country would not be recognize as the land of opportunities!

Migration existed in the oldest of time, So we’ve claim to become civil and advance. However when and undocumented person enter the USA their either terrist or unwanted human waste. WHY?. Did the Romans not have the same problem and the other Great Empires of old. Where there is plenty attention will follow so will the Gypsy of new. So any Law thats granting of the undocumented the right to be here i will support it.

What is it with all you liberal socialist democrats thinking that people DESERVE stuff just because they happen to live and breathe. WAKE UP! People don’t deserve anything. Follow the laws, work hard and be responsible.

Your comments have nothing to do with the DREAM Act, this debate will go no where if it keeps being drowned out by name calling and fear mongering. The debate with all its pro’s and con’s should simply be about substance and policy.

They are not getting a free ride. They would not be anymore financially different than a U.S. citizens. They would just be given a chance to study and contribute. They would probably be more disadvantage because their families are not wealthy and will need student loans to study. Any U.S. citizens can go to college there are so many opportunities (scholarships, loans…etc) and these students receive none and they still want to study. Their only difference among a native student and an illegal student is that they are driven individuals to become someone in life no matter all the obstacles on the road they face everyday.

this is not a matter of a full ride just because your parents are illegal. this is a matter of supporting innocent children who deserve an education. this bill does not give priority to illegals nor does it place them above citizens. this just means that if a student has the credentials and grades to get an education, they deserve it!

I agree they are much more educated in manipulating the system. I say pass the dream act and let them suffer under the same rights that I do. If we are all considered for financial aid based on our parents income. The illegals have no prior income tax reported though they made more than my parents did partially because they had to pay property tax that goes to funding education. They also had to pay for child care, health insurance and pay for school lunches. We didn’t get any food stamps because their income was all reported to the IRS so they had to be honest about taxable income, though our illegal neighbor who made more than my parents especially after being able to take advantage of all these programs for low income families didn’t. To add insult to injury they also were able to receive the same stimulus dollars based on what they got because they got a tax refund based on earned income credit.

In order to receive the Earned Income Credit a taxpayer must have a valid social security. Undocumented people are unable to obtain a valid social security number. Illegal people pay taxes using an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number. However they are not eligible to receive the Earned Income Credit nor any stimulus credits. How about doing some research before making any statements?

Valid Social Security numbers are sold and purchased each day here in the United States. Every system created can be exploited.

these children are not being placed above american citizens, they are being put on an equal playing field! get a clue! learn something! support the DREAM ACT!

  • cxlof45 04/22/2009 2:26pm

tax however the returns never come. The clean the toilets, they do the manual labours. However what do the get Nothing but our insult for being here and trying to be part of a wonderful system thats the USA
and pay there due. NOT A FREE PASS. After all bottomline we are all immigrant in a sense. The Only true Citizen is the NATIVE AMERICAN. PASS THE DREAM ACT. Give them a chance to Contribute.

(PART I) My youngest sister was brought by my parents to the United States when she was 18 months old. Now she is a 17 year-old junior in high school, doesn’t speak a word of Spanish, she is Vice-President of the Student Council, member of the National Honor Society, and she is ranked #4 in a class of over 540 students with a GPA of 4.14. She wants to be a Nutritionist. Regardless of all of the terrible things my parents have made sneaking her into this country, and beyond all the rhetoric and philosophy we can throw around… what about HER, as a human being? What about her dreams in the only country she knows as Home? What about the people she could touch in a positive way with her career in Health Sciences? She will graduate with honors from high school, no doubt in my mind. And then what? Do we send her to clean houses with my mom?

To bad, she needs to be deported with your entire family.
What part of illegal dont you understand?
GPA is great but she still is a felon.

  • CHADmtz 04/28/2009 7:17am

(PART II) What about me? My illegal dad busted his butt to put me through college and I have now a degree in U.S. History from Texas A&M University, minor in American Literature, all paid for without grants, scholarships, or financial aids, only with hard work . But now I am a “roofer”, I help side by side with my dad, putting roofs over the heads of many Americans, doing a very hard job that not even U.S. citizens that dropped out of high school want to take.

Citizenship is not a right. You therefore cannot deserve it.

    If you are a

    FELONY INVADER

you have no further recourse: your presence is detrimental to society.

They can take away our student rights, they can deny us a green card, they can deny us scholarship funds and in-state tuition, but they cannot take away our hopes and dreams! KEEP DREAMING!
