You are right that we already have laws on the books to convict people of violent crimes. The part you don’t see is how often crimes against the gay community are dismissed and poorly investigated given the victims status. This bill provides for federal intervention that in effect forces the hand of those who don’t feel like prosecuting.

To the far right… this has been law now for almost a year now and I’m still waiting for your preachers to be locked up for preaching their good news!!!!

Flighttrax 02/10/2010 11:33am

Aren’t all crimes/murders a HATE CRIME? You hate the person enough to kill them or rob them. I don’t care if someone wants to be gay or straight or whatever. Why introduce more bills that aren’t going to work. Americans have the right to feel and think they want to. What happened to being free to hate someone or be racist? It might not be the smartest thing, but you are a free American you have the right to be racist.

Thank you.

“Does not the very nature of things teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a disgrace to him,”
and yet
“19Having put him to sleep on her lap, she called a man to shave off the seven braids of his hair, and so began to subdue him.d And his strength left him.”

I have friends who believe many things, and I cannot help but hope for them. What is decided, though, whether we believe it or not, is decided.

Tina is my good friend, so I will respond for her….. You are another right winger who could benefit from a course in reading comprehension, try “Hooked on Phonics”, given that you clearly have not read the new law. For if you had you might realize that it does not provide the sentencing guidelines for a conviction. It provides federal resources to be used to assist in the investigation of a hate crime…. big difference there. You might want to try reading a law before you pretend to be an expert on its effects…

That doesn’t really make much sense. If someone get attacked because he is wearing red, and he happens to be black, the person’s sentance would be increased because the victim was black, regardless of the actual reason for the crime.
Also, if two groups rallied at the same time, one being a gay rights group and the other anti-gay protesters, and a fight broke out, the protestors would get extra punishment for committing a “hate crime,” whereas the gay rights group had just as much hate for the protestors.
This sort of legislation only serves to establish a “thought police” to decide if the defendent had “hate” toward the victims race, sexual orientation, etc. and increase his punishment because of it. If one attacks a gay women, why should he recieve a harsher punishment than one who attacks a strait women. After all, gays want equality, don’t they?

Hate crimes happen every day…as apposed to those committed out of love? All crimes are hate crimes.

I guess god missed his target in siberian given that it only killed one person… guess he was gay too

Gotta love the stories these christian nut jobs buy into….

krystaltgirl 10/28/2009 1:02pm

Once again you all can see for yourselfs why I commend President Obama for signing this Bill into law this fine Wednesday morning. No it won’t prevent our good wacapath preacherman from harming someone, but it sure will provide for the federal assistance in investigating and locking these self rightous religous nut jobs away for a good long time. Oh and by the way preacher nut… preach away I’m still an athiest… have a nice day!

Sorry but your just plain wrong on this one… true bible scholars have long said that this was twisted to mean homosexuallity long before you and I walked the earth… The men who came for lot intended to physically harm him sorry moron!

Gee mister wizard have you ever seen an asteroid impact with the earth… Just ask the Russians or the dinosaurs they can tell you all about it.

HellfirePreacherman 10/28/2009 9:19am

The destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah was not just a natrual disaster, it was judgement for their sin (BTW, God can use ‘natrual disasters’ to judge a people) not every natrual disaster is punishment for sin, but the Bible says that the Destruction of Sodom was ( by the way, it was a supernatrual disaster, when’s the last time you heard of fire falling from the sky and burning down cities natrually?

HellfirePreacherman 10/28/2009 9:16am

The sin of sodomy was not rudeness, it was homosexuality (if you studied the word ‘know’ in Bible context, you’d see that.

HellfirePreacherman 10/28/2009 9:14am

The Bible isn’t just a book of stories, it was written by men inspired by God, making it perfect and inerrant

krystaltgirl 10/28/2009 8:40am

To those of you that don’t understand why the LGBT community have pushed so hard for this bill all you need to do is look over the comments here and on every far right conservative christian website to understand the need for these laws. These wacko’s hide behind taken out of context Bible verses to justify their own personal brand of hate and every member of my community has to be ever vidulent to the threat of these self rightous nut jobs whom take it upon themselves to be judge, jury, and executioner of gay Americans. I’m all for religous freedoms, but when you think your religous wacko beliefs are what everyone else should have to follow.. well then you and I will butt heads. Keep your talibangelical christian beliefs in your anti christ churches thank you! Just look at the comments of Hellfirepreacherman for proof of what i’m saying. He would rather hang out with a serial killer than someone gay… this bastard needs help before he hurts someone!!!

krystaltgirl 10/27/2009 9:59pm

Oh and P.S. I’m not sure that born again thing really took for you.. you might think about trying again!

krystaltgirl 10/27/2009 9:44pm

And like I said if you want to go on believing your comic book, the puppet in the sky and casper go for it, but America doesn’t base its laws on fairy tales

The destruction of Sumatra wasn’t God it was an under sea earthquake… two thousand years ago it would have been the hand of god

krystaltgirl 10/27/2009 9:40pm

Those stories of distruction in the bible weren’t the act of God… they were natural disasters that still occur today

The sin of sodomy genius wasn’t anal sex … sorry and yes bible scholars agree with that. It was being rude to strangers.. very well know…

HellfirePreacherman 10/27/2009 9:30pm

I’m amazed at all the ‘Judge not’ and ‘casting the first stone’ and ‘God is love’ you **** know about the Bible but how little else you know

krystaltgirl 10/27/2009 9:26pm
in reply to HellfirePreacherman Oct 27, 2009 9:19pm

Maybe we should have divorcee bashing too or how about people who cast the first stone bashing like yourself

HellfirePreacherman 10/27/2009 9:25pm

The Bible Specifically Calls you queers reprobate (at the class of animals) and your sin is one of the only sins God burned up whole cities for

krystaltgirl 10/27/2009 9:24pm
in reply to HellfirePreacherman Oct 27, 2009 9:19pm

The bible tells you to hate a lot of sins equally… have you been divorced? I guess we shouldn’t allow divorced people to serve either
