10/14/2009--Passed Senate without amendment. (This measure has not been amended since it was introduced. The summary of that version is repeated here.) Recognizes the benefits of service-learning, which include:
(1) enriching and enhancing academic outcomes for youth;
(2) engaging youth in positive experiences in the community; and
(3) encouraging youth to make more constructive choices with regards to their lives. Encourages schools, school districts, college campuses, community-based organizations, nonprofits, and faith-based organizations to provide youth with more service-learning opportunities. Expresses support for the goals of the National Learn and Serve Challenge, an annual event which spotlights the value of service-learning to youth, schools, college campuses, and communities.
