The past is the past, move on, we are all HUMAN, what happened to everyone is equal no matter what sex or race you are??? Why should we apologize for what other people did 100 or 200 years ago? Not my fault, I had nothing to do with it, get over it, move on. Pay for everything like the rest of us do, no special treatment should be given for a certain race. To me, that’s discrimination.

The conquering of native peoples was how every civilized nation on earth came to be. It is an unfortunate consequence – however, I am in agreement – It’s time to move on. There is nothing wrong with a hand up – but the days of the hand out need to be over. We can not claim to be a nation where all are created equal but continue to pander to certain demographics.

What happened in the past is over and done with – the Indians have as many opportunities as anyone else in the United States in this day and age. Anyone who made the laws/treaties with the Indians are long dead. Quite feeling guilty for being white.

Definitely. It says all U.S. Citizens. My family didn’t come here until the 1930’s! From Wales, and they were treated just as bad. We are not asking for an apology. What’s next…the Irish?

The only reason that I voted no on this bill, is that it’s NOT enough. WE stole their country from them, and all we can do is say “I’m sorry”?
You have got to be kidding!!! That’s one helluva slap in the face!!! And to top it off, what about ALL of the atrocities that our ancesters inflicted upon them? I’m sorry? You actually have the nerve to suggest reparations for the black man, but when it comes to THE natural born citizens of this country, I’m sorry is the best you can come up with? PLEASE!!!!!

Does Congress have nothing better to do than try to pass idiotic bills that do absolutely nothing for its citizens? Focus on the present and future, Congress, no the past!

I have to agree with caroth. I have a rich American Indian (Apache) background. My mother has collected tons of stories from her parents and grandparents that are a delight to hear and study. And I feel this bill is ridiculous. Rather than whine about events in a previous century, my family learned the American way, found it superior, and adopted it.

We stole their land, killed their people, and nearly wiped out their culture and replaced it with our own. The least we can give them is an apology.

I agree with those that say move on. If we began to apologize for all the wrongs in the world where would it end? What makes native americans so different from any other race. The only way we can achieve equality is to treat everyone equally. Special considerations for some just enables the whole situation. Legislators, PLEASE, work on the problems facing us today and avoid wasting time with these resolutions!!!

Just found this site, and as usual see the same old stereotypical comments, move on, it’s in the past. Did your ancestors get taken away from their homes to be forced into speaking English, punished for speaking their native language, and also forced to quit practicing their religion? I thought that was one of the reasons the white people’s ancestors left England to escape religious persecution, beliefs, etc., another hypocritical belief.
