7/22/2010--Passed Senate without amendment. (This measure has not been amended since it was introduced. The summary of that version is repeated here.) Designates August 26, 2020, as "Montford Point Marines Day." Honors the 68th anniversary of the first day that African-American recruits began training at Montford Point (North Carolina). Recognizes the work of the Montford Point Marine Association in honoring the legacy and history of the U.S. Marine Corps and in ensuring that the sense of duty shared by the Montford Point Marines is passed along to future generations. Recognizes that:(1) the example set by the Montford Point Marines who served during World War II helped to shape the Marine Corps; and
(2) the Marine Corps provides an excellent opportunity for advancement for persons of all races. Expresses gratitude to the Montford Point Marines for fighting for the freedom of the United States and the liberation of people of the Pacific, despite the practices of segregation and discrimination.
