Enemies of net neutrality are enemies of free speech for all people. I have never seen a strong coherent argument against net neutrality because I suspect that the only coherent positions expose one as a corporatist stooge.
An amendment to this bill seeks to tie the FCC’s hands in supporting net neutrality. It is a shameful and underhanded political maneuver that directly attacks the freedom of the U.S. citizen.
do not like this bill. cuts spending, but sneaks in a bunch of tricky things
I agree. It makes you believe you are supporting the military then it sneaks in other, unrelated, things. It is hard to trust something so sneaky.

@Aurelius,
“Had federal and state regulators done their job and enforced existing rules and standards on underwriting and risk management, none of us would be living with the consequences of the mortgage mess now and for many years to come.”
That’s not exactly true. A lot of the mortgage collapse was because Fannie & Freddie were buying too many bad loans. They bought the loans because it was legal to do so by the FDIC & treasury among the other overseers. The banks then created a secondary and tertiary market for those bonds. Banks had to give loans to those who wouldn’t normally have had the ability to qualify because of anti-redlining laws, as well as mandates to increase credit through the early 2000’s in order to expand.
When you say, “We all deserve Democracy and we’re going to get it, good and hard”, I’m not sure what you mean by that, but I’d rather have a republic any day.
FYI Fannie and Freddie didn’t start buying up bad loans until congress passed TARP, and it was still greedy bankers that falsified documents, and got away with the goods.
yes read the bill, cut 51 million from noaa to push non need regulation on fisherman. yes we need the science not the politic. put the money in your own pocket
Get the facts this what this bill will cut:
$1 billion from Head Start (15 percent);
$1.4 billion from various job training programs (we’re not sure exactly what is cut, but for purposes of comparison, two major job training programs, adult and youth training, were funded at $1.78 billion in FY 2010. (That does not include nearly $1.7 billion in economic recovery act funding that was available in FYs 2009 and 2010 – that is gone too.)
Community Health Centers (46 percent of regular appropriation);
Substance abuse treatment (more than $200 million cut);
Community Services Block Grant (44 percent cut);
Low Income Home Energy Assistance (LIHEAP) contingency fund (66 percent cut);
FEMA Emergency Food and Shelter Program (50 percent cut);
Title I (K-12 education for low-income students) ($693.5 million),
IDEA (special education) grants to states: (nearly $560 million);
Commodity Supplemental Food Program (11.4 percent cut);
Community Development Fund ($2.95 billion, or 66.3 percent cut);
Project-based rental assistance ($715.5 million, or 8.4 percent cut);
Public Housing Capital Fund ($1.07 billion, or 42 percent cut);
Housing for the Elderly ($551 million, or 67 percent cut);
Housing for Persons with Disabilities ($210 million, or 70 percent cut).

This bill contains many awful & sneaky elements mentioned above in previous comments, but I especially object to the bill’s provisions to…
• Eliminate Endangered Species Act protections for gray wolves in the Northern Rockies and Greater Yellowstone;
• Prohibit the Environmental Protection Agency from regulating emissions that cause climate change that now threaten polar bears and walruses;
• Slash funding for national wildlife refuges and the essential Land and Water Conservation Fund, which protect wildlife habitat across the country; and
• Complicate enforcement of the Clean Water Act that protects our drinking water and essential waters for aquatic wildlife.

Of course Republicans shot down the following Democrat introduced amendments to this bill:
- Requirement that the Department of Defense performs actual accounting reports and a budget.
- Stop funding Nascar.
- Reduce non homeland security / defense vehicle expense by 15%.
- Reduce non homeland security / defense travelexpense by 15%.
- Corporation reporting requirements for elections.
So Republicans want to wreck families here in America, keep Corporations happy and keep money in their own pockets. Way to go America for voting in all these corrupt Corporate slaves.
We need to make sure that the rider 1709 is stripped from this bill. So much is added to the “budget” bill it can not be passed we need to fight for the safety of the Gray Wolf, if it is taken off the ESA then they will for sure come after more animals currently protected. Like I said there is too much extra and we need to stop the bill.
My friends, this is why I have taken great interest in the Libertarian platform. Obviously, 2 parties alone do not represent the common American anymore. We need to break away from this left-right paradigm that has plagued the US over the last decade. I believe both Dems and Republicans have failed us, and those career politicians who fill those seats.
