The only problem I see with this is the “and for other purposes”. What exactly does that mean? The first part sounds amazing. Those last four words make me very leery.
I agree – funny wording that does not belong there.
I’m in complete agreement …One Subject at a Time Act: To end the practice of including more than one subject in a single bill by requiring that each bill enacted by Congress be limited to only one subject …and more concise verbage so that said legislation need not overlap as it so often does. The only reasoning I see in overlap of legislation is in the case of an ammendment to or clarification of some existing legislation. I’d also insist on the complete removal of “…and for other purposes.” from every piece of legislation put before any part of Congress. Legislators ought to know better, they should be very concise in stating exact legislation “WE THE PEOPLE” want and expect governing the U.S. Someone should really go through past legislation with a bullgozer first, to remove all the past outdated nonsense seemingly ammending what was aready clearly written into the original Constitution but was never enforced ie; those Rights afforded every man (womam or child) who is American.
The four words — “and for other purposes” — was not a part of the legislation originally drafted by DownsizeDC and the Williamsport Tea Party and given to Rep. Marino to introduce on behalf of the people of Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Here’s the original version.
Ironically, those four words were probably added by the Office of Legislative Council as a matter of common practice for the purpose of attaching other unrelated subjects to the bill!
This is how legislation should have been handled since the founding of our country.
I told a friend over the summer that if I could do one thing to try and fix the government, I would propose a bill similar to this: Proposition EL5. I never thought someone would actually do it. Way to get the ball rolling America!! There is hope for us yet.
