very sensible step to remove DV program. My attorney tells me this program was started by Ted Kennedy to bring in irish immigrants, but then years after, immigrants from countries like Bangladesh, Nepal, african countries, mostly unskilled, started coming in with free green card lottery program. I mean I am a skilled legal immigrant from EB3 category I know its taking 10-15 years to get a green card. And this program was ridiculously written that US distributes free green card througout this world. Now I find most of the people who came under DV program ar either cb drivers or doing very low end job. This program should have been stopped years ago.
On the other hand the green card backlog in EB3 category is 15 years, the 55000 number coming to EB category will bring some relief. My appeal to congressman to incude people with masters degree from non US universities also to be eligible for this number and not just US universities. Thanks,
There shouldn’t be nothing random about the way we give citizenship. I think, if an immigrant wants citizenship, which I have no problem with, they should be scrutinized. Just blindly handing out Green Cards is not smart. Everyone should have the same opportunity and have to go through the same process to become a citizen. Although I don’t think it should take 15 years, it should be thorough.

This is a good way to go. BTW when is this bill coming to H of R for voting ? And if passed , when can we expect it to get effective?
Under Section 3 of the Bill it would take effect October 1, 2011. However, my guess is it will not see the House Floor before then, if ever. The most you can do if you support this bill and want it to be pushed, contact your representative and voice your opinion! Make sure in your email/letter/phone call you include the bill’s official number: H.R.43.
Cheers

So lets see if I understand this bill. A foreigner comes to US and gets a graduate degree and then just stays until they get a green card? After which they compete with US citizens for jobs that currently are not available. Do the morons that wrote this bill realize those that are most unemployed are high school and college graduates? What about the negative impact of brain drain on foreign nations?
In conclusion this bill will create expatriates, negatively affects foreign nations by means of brain drain, and negatively affects the US job market. This is just another feel good piece of legislation created by morons in the US congress.
This bring will help united states economy in many prospective, first United States will be getting skilled workers who can raise their child with good education Will pay good tax
highly skilled immigration has per country limit (no more than 7% for any country) that supports diversity. so effectively US is getting highly skilled immigrant and diversity. why settle for just diversity?
i think its a good bill and i support it.
Wow. Yet another effort by the UNited Corporations of America to screw American people. This is exactly the kind of action that gives Congress it’s well-deserved 9% approval. Instead of supporting American education so there’s more kids going not science and engineering, they undermine school funding and import cheap foreigners to cut costs. This is despicable.
This bill is aiming at two big issues that are totally separate but can be solved with such a great plan with additional benefits: US lottery and the loss of highly educated and skillful talents.
Most of the green card holders from lottery lack any special skills and even have English language problems. They add nothing but a population to this country for no good outcome. I’ve witnessed their cultural and behavioral problems in here.
Every Ph.D. student in STEM sinks over $200’000 investment of US taxpayers’ money to graduate and in the recent years, US has lost many of such talents because after spending several years of their lives, they don’t find to be pushed back for at least 4-5 years with a high risk to get a green card.
The bottom line is this is a must that can boost US economy and add motivated, educated, and talented people to the weak US economy that has a shortage of workforce in STEM fields.
