Greetings from Cadillac Mr.Clark. Hope things turn around for you soon and you can somehow return to writing.

For me…I’m ‘outta this unemployment maze due to a heart attack followed by open heart surgery and a triple by-pass along with being diagnosed with COPD and diabetes. I’m now officially disabled and on SSD.

    Hello Was
    Hello Mrs Chang
    Hello NancyM
    Hello Where

Guess that about covers everyone posting here now.

    Hello Legion1,

Sorry to hear about all the health issues, but glad to know you were able to get SSD. It usually takes forever but it looks like you didn’t have to wait long. My initial application was denied, and I just talked to a lawyer about filing for reconsideration. I understand the appeal process is quite a slog.

We’d all much rather be working and earning the decent wage we used to receive. Now we’re all having our adventures in low-income land, and making whatever adjustments we can make. But we’re still a case of “heads bloody but unbowed,” just like fighters in a dismal war.

Take care of yourself, and best of luck.

Mrs Chang, it will be a year already middle of next month. The SSD was ok’d the first time through. I’ll be 60 in May. Making it through the first time I tried I think scares me. The doctor didn’t think I’d get it, said I wasn’t sick enough. But I did & now I wonder what that means??? (like am I in worse shape than the doc says I am?)

    Legion1/JoHamm,

Hey, I’m remembering old names, so my memory lapses aren’t that bad, eh?

As they say, take the money and run. The SS process is a very un-transparent way to do anything. Sometimes there’s neither rhyme nor reason. If they say you’re disabled under their rules, that’s cause for rejoicing. There are people who are badly off but are still told they’re not disabled. Also, age helps, I think. But I still got denied at 63 so I hired a lawyer who can help me worry.

And now, we face our new adventures in low-income land, an utterly different landscape. Good luck to us all.

    Hi Legion1

I too was saddened that you have had all of the recent health issues, but I am very happy that you have been able to get hooked-up with SSD – does that now make you a government sponsored activist? :)

My heart is warmed that “The People” are finally taking care of you at least to some extent – I know that your voice will grow ever stronger as your health strengthens.

I appreciate your kind words as well, and all I can say is “never say never”, I may climb back on the “writing” horse once again – perhaps right after I get done laughing at the buffoons that we currently have in our do-nothing Congress. I wonder if they have a clue what the definition of “patriot” is???

America needs more patriots and less politicians!

Well…..I hope to hear more from you again….

I stayed online through homelessness, a hurricane with no power for a long time, depression…, and a hell of a lot of other stuff…

    @Patriot"…

To me it is those who care about the principals our country was founded on with blood, and the welfare and liberty of the majority of the people that live here now. AND that are willing to fight a very rich minority that wants to control it for their own benefit alone.

Thank God more of those kind are waking up to the truth everyday now!

Mr. Clark….I’m takin’ the cash & hidin’…before they take it back!!!!lol

Every time I get a letter from these guys I cringe.(They don’t seem to know their asses from a hole in the ground.) I usually get three (3) letters in the same envelope, one saying I’m getting this amount, another saying I’m getting that amount and a third saying I’m getting nothing. So far they are abiding by letter #2 (the higher amount)

I was waiting for a big news outlet to finally talk about this story HuffPost did. It is well known in some places on the web. There was a lot more than just all of the sites that joined together to participated in the blackout that caused Congress, and others, to back down quick on SOPA and PIPA. A little mentioned, but very real cyber war was waged in many ways…

I also read a very good article today in a CT paper about how former Senator Chris Dodd was hired to push SOPA through, even though that is illegal for him to do until 2013. It is not online yet, but I will post it when it is

Of course Dodd will not comment to the CT media hammering him now…

Anonymous And The War Over The Internet

Late in the afternoon of Jan. 19, the U.S. Department of Justice website vanished from the Internet. Anyone attempting to visit it to report a crime or submit a complaint received a message saying the site was unable to load. More websites disappeared in rapid succession. The Recording Industry Association of America. The Motion Picture Association of America. Universal Music. Warner Brothers. The FBI…

    Goodbye, Middle Class

Nearly one in two Americans is now living on the lower end of the income scale, according to the Census Bureau. For a family of four that’s less than $45,000 a year.

    Information from Senator Bernie Sanders:

From ‘08-’10 General Electric made $10.46 billion in US profits, paid $0 in federal taxes, received $4.7 million in tax rebates, spent $84.35 million on lobbying and laid off 4,168 employees. Jeffrey Immelt, CEO of General Electric, is also the head of President Obama’s “Jobs Council”.

    __________________________________________________

The list of 30 corporations that spent huge amounts lobbying to get tax breaks allowing them to not only NOT pay any taxes on profits, but to get millions FROM the government, brings a whole new meaning to “good corporate citizenship!” Support Bernie Sanders on his effort to get a constitutional amendment to overturn the Supreme Courts Citizens United decision!!!

    Well, well,well…..

After “lemming” exodus, manufacturers look to U.S.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Big U.S. manufacturers moved their production out of the country too quickly over the past decades and now see a competitive advantage in building up their footprints back home, top executives said on Monday.

“We, lemming-like, over the last 15 years extended our supply chains a little too far globally in the name of low cost,” said Jim McNerney, chief executive of world No. 2 planemaker Boeing. “We lost control in some cases over quality and service when we did that, we underestimated in some cases the value of our workers back here.”

    Hi people!

I see someone is still reading here. 431 views today it says.

I’m not surprised, knowing that many still become 99ers every day, and the 99er movement is pretty much history now.

All I can say to any viewers of this bill is Google “Occupy”. They blacked us out on the main stream media mostly now, but not online.

Most old “99ers”, those that ran out of unemployment with still no job, joined “Occupy”.

    Spring is coming fast…

  • WasMiddleClass 02/14/2012 8:44pm

ST. LOUIS — Organizers of Occupy protests around the Midwest will gather next month in St. Louis, pledging to emerge from a “winter lull” as a bigger and stronger force.

Occupy Midwest Regional Conference will start with a gathering at 7 p.m. March 15 beneath the Gateway Arch, organizer Chuck Witthaus said Tuesday. A mass occupation will continue through March 18, but not on the Arch grounds. Organizers aren’t disclosing the location.

Witthaus, of St. Louis, said peaceful protests are also planned, but he declined to discuss details.

Occupy movement supporters from about a dozen cities in seven states — Missouri, Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Oklahoma, Minnesota and Wisconsin — have confirmed they will attend. Participants in nearly 20 other cities may also be there…

“In terms of massive physical actions, there’s been a winter lull, but every occupation I know has been organizing like crazy, getting ground work done to do actions in the spring,” Perrotta said. “When spring begins I think you’ll see us back bigger and stronger than ever.”

With SOPA Shelved, Congress Readies its Next Attack on the Internet

One of the things that became clear in Congress’ push to pass Hollywood’s web censorship bills is that powerful corporations and the federal government do not want the rule of law to apply on the internet. The attitude that our basic freedoms and legal protections are somehow not valid on the internet is partly just the kind of reaction you would expect from entrenched powers whenever new technologies emerge, but it’s also a response to the particular peer-to-peer features of the internet that threaten to make their key sources of power — control of information flow — less relevant.

I did a little research to try to see what all those views still here were. I know nancym did too.

It can’t be that many bots…

I know all us old timers still stopping by here think this is ancient news…. But what about all the new people?

Just because tier 5 is a old pipe dream to us, and we found our various ways to survive now, does not mean we should forget the situation more and more are finding themselves in every day now, like we once did.

Hell…from the MSM talk those old extensions may be gone soon too. How many will get screwed with that?

Maybe some of us old timers should keep this old board going for those newbies that Google and end up here……..

Unemployment Insurance Cuts in the Latest Deal

…Under the deal, long-term unemployed workers in most states would see their maximum length of benefits restricted, and they may face new drug testing and job retraining requirements to continue receiving benefits…

    http://www.opencongress.org/articles/view/2476-Unemployment-Insurance-Cuts-in-the-Latest-Deal

Anyone finding this board now that is depending on UI benefits to survive better get involved and fight quick!

All of us “99ers” that fought for all those extensions, and tried to get the one in this bill, moved on now…to things like Occupy. We did what we could…

The way things look now a hell of a lot of unemployed people are going to be left with nothing to live on soon.
