What a poorly conceived bill. What’s terrible about having to buy efficient light bulbs once every decade? Also, you’ll still be able to buy your precious incandescent bulbs. You’ll just have to buy more efficient and brighter incandescent bulbs. Oh the horror.
Extensive coverage, with documentation and references, that it is wrong to ban simple regular light bulbs,

Light Bulb Policies Compared
Free Markets or Taxation or Regulation:
How does one stimulate the manufacture of good – and energy efficient – lighting?
Compared to relic incandescents … Halogen incandescents have virtually identical operating characteristics, are 28% more efficient, contain no mercury, last three times longer, are moderately priced & typically pay for themselves in months. If you don’t want to use a CFL, for whatever reason, use a halogen incandescent.
Halogens are a direct replacement for the old bulbs. There’s no real “loss of liberty”, here. The argument that 100 million American households need to make a “market” decision on virtually identical products while this nation needs to wake-up and get its act together on energy use and efficiency, and a whole array of issues, is ridiculous.
Another crazy bill advanced by the crazy lady from MN.
Why does the nanny state have to dictate what light bulbs I can buy. Because the government officials think I am too stupid to evaluate which bulbs are a better deal! You want me to buy your stupid halogens?? or LEDs? or flourecents? Give me the information I need to choose, don’t take away my choice.
