including the Chickahominy are not Federally recognized. The Virginia Tribes
have been trying to become Federally recognized for many years. Even when the
economy was strong, the House and Senate Bills for the tribes’ Federal
recognition still struggled for approval. The gaming option for their bills
have been removed. They just want to be recognized. Please, help support S.379
Bill to help the Virginia tribes obtain the Federal recognition that they
deserve. I would really like to have engraved on the Chickahominy tribe’s
plaque from my Eagle project in front of their tribal center that they were Federally recognized by the 112th U.S. Congress in 2011.
It would be nice to have the Virginia tribes finally recognized with the other
562 Federally-recognized tribes.
Thanks,
Ben Jumper

I would like to see this Bill, S.379, become approved by the Senate. The six tribes in Virginia listed in this Senate Bill deserve Federal Recognition. The Chickahominy tribes provided food for the intial settlers to survive their first winter in America at Jamestown. They have played a truly important role in American history and are still part of the American society today. Please make approval of this Bill happen this year by supporting S.379.
