CO2 levels have no measurable effect on the Earth’s temperature.
Updates to measurements and models now show a .7 degree rise over the last 100 years. That is less than the average over the last 300 years. CO2 levels are at or near some of their highest recorded levels over that same time span. If the amount of CO2 had anything to do with warming, we would be in the middle of a global heat wave by now. We are not. Some reliable predictions have us cooling over the course of the next 50 years or so. If the science were settled, then there wouldn’t be so much decent from PHDs around the world.

Take away the subsidies and handouts that the Coal, gas, oil and Nuclear receive and add their externalities and your looking at true burden that the American people cannot carry. It’s not like these Industries are creating jobs which renewable energy will they’re losing them! Over the past quarter century the Coal Industry has axed 20 percent of thir workforce and increased productivity by 50%! They don’t need people! Meanwhile the manufacture of renewable energy plants and the workforce needed to run them will create millions of jobs for our economy. If you don’t change you stagnate, and that is exactly what has happened to our economy.

“Climate change” is a scam. Lets concern ourselves with real conservation and energy efficiency and stop trying to come up with new ways to tax our citizens.

Creating jobs is pointless unless those jobs create goods and services demanded by consumers in a free market. Otherwise you’re just creating busy work that’s just a drain on the economy.

Energy is in very high demand. It is consumed by all Americans.

Renewable energy is the best thing our government and citizens can invest in. It is a much better investment than GM.

Yes, climate change is real. It’s been happening for eons. I guess the last time we had global warming it was caused by humans right? Also, science is not interested in consensus. That is more a political idea. Science needs repeatable experimentation as evidence not consensus. But let’s say that it is a fact that there is anthropomorphic global warming, there is very little consensus as to the actual effects, be they negative or positive. Furthermore, given the fact that nuclear energy does not produce appreciable amounts of greenhouse gases I wonder why we are not really pushing this proven energy source? Perhaps there is another agenda at work here.

This bill will kill our already crippled economy, tax the consumer TO DEATH, and it will do nothing to help the environment. If the democrats pass this thing, they are going to get their butts handed to them in 2010.

If you love higher utility rates and want to see American jobs going overseas then this bill is for you! If not, this bill must be fought with everything you have!!

According to http://www.americanchronicle.com/articles/view/102937 – “While the impact of cap and trade on our environment will most likely be inconclusive and debatable, the devastation to our economy will not be. The burden on U.S. manufacturers will force many of them to shut down their American operations and relocate to countries with far less stringent environmental regulations. In effect, cap and trade will cause America to export jobs……If this misguided policy is adopted, it will cause the average family to pay more than $3,100 in additional energy costs each year.” $3,100 EACH YEAR. That’s an additional $260/month. I don’t know about some of you but I can’t afford that.

How will we know when we have “defeated” climate change and can stop taxing and regulating? It will never happen! Just like the “War on Terror”. How would you ever know when you have defeated “TERROR”. They are both undefinable nonsense used as a tool to tax and regulate the American people. Collectivism is what it is. “We need to all sacrifice for the good of the whole.” The problem is everybody will sacrifice but no one will ever benefit except the upper echelon who is orchestrating the whole thing.

I’m all for common sense solutions. Why don’t we just plant more trees? They devour carbon dioxide and emit oxygen. I’m all for regulations that stop pollution, but not a tax that is a “pollution fee” that energy companies pay the government and simply pass on the charge to each and every one of us.

“mostly caused by humans”

Yep, which is why the warmest period of time we have on record was in the 1100’s. Look what all the combustion engines and carbon-producing machines back then … oh, wait, there were none.

Try actually reading some credible studies instead of what the news reports on before you tell someone else to do more reading.

Costs for power/fuel always go up: gasoline. Some people deny that humans cause climate change; I refuse to even dignify that with a response. What this bill aims to do is take THE 1st STEP toward environmental responsibility. Who cares about the economy if we can’t go outside without gas masks, or no longer have access to clean drinking water? Ever thought about how much money and resources are used just to CLEAN UP waste and byproducts already being created by our current industrial, and residential, processes? It may cost a lot of money UPFRONT to do the right thing, but a rational person can’t deny that we have to start somewhere, making eco-friendly decisions (or not) does have a global impact, and what this bill proposes will not always have a high cost if we start NOW. Obviously just asking people to make environmentally responsible decisions and companies to create less harmful products doesn’t work, or we wouldn’t be faced with so many environmental travesties today.

Government jobs are paid for by taxpayers. Once a government job is created we pay the wages, medical & vacations of that person in that job! Well for twenty years until they retire.
Then, we pay their retirement and someone to replace the person who retired.
After another twenty years, we pay 2 people retirement pay and yet another person to do the job that the first 2 retired from.
Don’t ya get it, a gov job only creates more $$ needed to run government!!

If your free market is driven by demand, then why is it that I see 20 different brands of the SAME toothbrush for the same price every time I’m in the grocery store, but if I want to get TO the store, I either have to buy a car that runs on petroleum or rob a bank and buy a bus? And if this market of yours works so well, then why do I need to keep subsidizing it? Between the $4.73 trillion bank bailout, the $35 billion in oil subsidies, another $35 billion in coal subsidies, the $50 billion in nuclear subsidies, and the $75 billion subsidies to the automotive industry, this free market of yours is costing my fellow taxpayers and I a heck of a lot of money for products that we don’t want. Finally, if your market only produces what’s in demand, then why does it need to spend $1 trillion convincing people to “demand” junk they really don’t need? The only “freedom” I see in your market is the money liberated from my wallet flowing freely into the accounts of some obscenely rich CEOs.

You people need to stop drinking the kool-aid the government keeps giving out. Global warming is the biggest tax scam in history. There is so much evidence to refute it that it’s ridiculous. Please go to www.//oism.org/pproject/ Over 31000 American scientists have signed this petition that says GW is bogus. On this site there are numerous scientific papers that prove the point. Wake up America before it is too late!!!!

If you’ve done your research you’d be able to say with confidence: The total energy consumption of all the countries on the planet is about half of a ZetaJule a year. In 2006 an MIT report on geothermal energy found that 13,000 ZJ of power are currently available in the earth with the possibility of 2,000 ZJ being easily tapable with improved technology. That is around 4,000 years of planetary power that could be harnessed in geothermal alone. If you were to add solar, wind, tidal, and water currents as other sources of energy, it’s easy to see that we won’t ever have to worry about energy ever again. With statistics like this, from our world’s brightest scientific communities, how can you say that investing in renewable energy sources brings about a “demonstrably LOW return”? (By the way, here’s an article that touches on that MIT report for those of you who’d think I was lying to you: http://www.physorg.com/news88683362.html)

Where are the American people???? Everyone should be contacting their senators and state representatives every day opposing all this nonsense, the government is putting everyone out of work, well except for gov employees, which we pay for.
This bill along with many others will only put more people out of work. It is bull crap, all of it!!!!!

People better get together, unite against all this crap before it is too late? Maybe we all have busy lives, but are we going to stand by and let them continue taking over all of our Freedom and Liberty???

The things gov is doing make me ill, literally! Is their anyone who actually believes in the US Constituion????????

Climate Change has never existed as it does now in the history of our planet earth; Never has the rate of change occurred so fast, and never has man caused such change, until now. This is not a normal process, this is an abnormal catastrophe caused by the amount of greenhouse gas we produced. But we CAN curb the change, by cutting our greenhouse gas emissions!
In Tennessee it is expected to get much hotter and as a result of climate change, and the people of Tennessee are expected to suffer massive heat waves, like the ones that killed thousands in Europe several years ago. Tennessee is also expected to have increased flooding like that wich we have seen recently in several midwestern states. Fisheries, and Forests are expected to suffer as well when temperatures rise, replacing hardwoods with pines and scrubs.

I also heard they are going to charge dairy farmers $175.00 per Cow because they pass gas "methane gas? from eating grass and it hurts the environment..there goes the price on milk and dairy products..the insanity going on in this administration is beyond belief..we are headed toward a wall going 150 miles per hour …will we survive??? I doubt it…they do not want to rebuild our nation ..they want to remake into something we do not recognize and do not want…..WE WANT AMERICA BACK

I wonder if Washington ever listens to NASA. Seems like only last week that they reported that THERE IS NO GLOBAL WARMING!!! NASA itself reported that global warming is CYCLIC!! Is anyone out there old enough to remember the impending new ice age of the 70’s? GIVE ME A BREAK!!!
This is only a special interest groups’ way of extorting cash out of AMERICANS pockets. But remember, our government LOVES special interest groups. Approximately 450,000,000,000 dollars of the 870,000,000,000 dollar so called stimulous package, went to special interest groups.
WE NEED TO WAKE UP, AMERICA!!!

The Grid to control your use of energy in your own home?

Have you ever been to Russia? Their government controls their heat, it gets turned on the same day every year, whether it gets cold earlier or stays hot later is not govs concern.
It also gets turned off same day every year, so if it gets warm earlier or stays cold later is also not govs concern.

Example: lets say it’s still 35 degrees outside, but the day comes when it’s time for heat to be shut off……… too too bad, just freeze then.

I agree, but it will destroy every state. Somehow, it seems the citizens are thought of as being ignorant of stupid. We need to fight this cap and trade and so called clean green jobs. It will destroy us.

DianaAmerican 05/27/2009 10:58am

A privately owned company, small business; they hire people to work and they pay their wages, not the taxpayers.
Government regulations cause small business to go out of business, thus costing Americans jobs that are not paid by taxpayers.

It is common sense to have privately owned small businesses. Government regulations and Union regulations have destroyed many thousands of small businesses to create huge conglomerate businesses that they can control, and they doing more of it all the time.
DRILL HERE< DRILL NOW< Small business< Let our country, let American use the Natural resourses we have to create jobs, to strengthen our Country.

snydes45 05/23/2009 11:14am

“and grants for green jobs”
I want to hear the politicians tout the tens of thousands of jobs “created” in the green sector and how that will offset the half million or more jobs lost in the rest of the market.
Until someone can put a dollar value on the global warming effect of CO2 or other emissions I don’t see any need to cripple our economy.

MasterAtArms 06/23/2009 8:26am

Does anyone out there actually belive the “polluters” are going to pay for this without the cost being passed on to the consumer? Is anyone really that nieve?

meadowj 06/24/2009 1:01pm

Climate change has not been scientifically proven to be warming. We have sufficient science to show that we are actually entering a cooling period for the next 100 years. So why are we allowing a selective few, that think they are smarter than the masses, bully us into actions that simply cost us more and tax us more for no established reason. This act,if enacted,is nothing but a sham. We should vote out any and all of congress that votes for the enactment of such.
