what they should do is “tag” the ones who are caught commiting a crime w/a weapon in such a way that they can no longer obtain a weapon…then, if you are honest and law abiding you are not tagged and no alarms go off…however, if you have been convicted of a felony or any crime commited w/a firearm, every alarm in the country goes off…sounds like what they want to do to us…we should turn it on the ones we need to ban…

Wake up! Guns do not kill people. People do. Will we limit ownership of butter knives next?

It is things like this that made it a good idea for me to move my family out of the Peoples Republic of Hawaii to the Great State of Arizona where I can open carry my Glock 23 in public.

You are part of the problem here. If you would look further than the gloss on the surface, you would see that this is just a step in the direction of taking them away completely. Chicago is in Illinois, the whole governing body of Illinois seems to have lost touch with reality. They banned guns from the citizens (how the Hell that was allowed, I’d like to know. Seems like it could be overturned as unconstitutional.), their constituants now cannot protect themselves, and Illinois is constantly putting or already have nothing but criminals in every political office. How are the citizens of Chicago going to be protected? By the same officials that are constantly in the news for breaking the law themselves! What a joke.

The communist puppet & illegal alien usurper Obama (from Chicago) is but the enemy’s second deployment behind the Bush crime family.

Their primary intentions are to rob all Americans black and white, create a civil war and to completely dismantle what’s left of the United States.

You are now living in a war zone; the cur in the White House and his comrades have full command over the nation’s control hierarchy.

You and your family are in imminent danger. Prepare to defend yourself to the death.

No kidding. As the saying goes “prepare to defend yourself”. This is way out of hand.

Dude i live in Illinois and despise Chicago. There is a VAST separation with chicago and the rest of Illinois. Blame Chicago NOT Illinois. Most in “downstate” Illinois are “bitter clingers”. I am one.

The people in the state of Illinois need to pull their heads out of their butt’s and elcet people that will do as the people want done. Being from the great state of West Virginia we already have laws in our books to protect gun owners and their rights. Anyone who would vote for such an idiotic bill needs to be removed from office by the people of their state. Only could a bill like this standup in a state so corupt as Illinoins.

I completely agree but it is also true for the people of the US. We (those who voted Obama) should all sit down and have a long time to think about what we have done by putting Obama in office. No one thought about the long run effect of voting him into office, everyone was too worried about making history. Well we have definantly made history but I dont beleive it is for the good. (PS- I did not vote Obama.) It floors me that so many people here are against HR 45 (which I am) but it would probably be safe to bet that every other comenter voted Obama!

I can assure you that voting for Obama never crossed my mind. Fortunately I was raised to think for myself and apply critical thinking and reasoning. I was never swayed by Obama’s slick talk or lies that he was handing out like candy. I am a proud bitter clinger and I am disgusted by what our government is trying to do.

Why not prohibit “criminals or crazy people” from flying in airplanes, or driving motor vehicles. As we all know, more people are killed by suicide bombers than guns, both in the US an abroad! The right to fly in a plane and drive an automobile is not guaranteed in the Constitution of the United States!

did you even read HR.45? It doesn’t take away the right to own a gun, it just means you have to register it first. Now how do you get onto a plane? You need to have a PASSPORT = REGISTRATION.

    BobNanner 02/27/2009 12:21am

You don’t understand the meaning of “registration” and what it does. Registration is the first step that has to be taken before the next step, which is the ultimate goal of CONFISCATION. Do you think in Germany, that people just turned in a bunch of unregistered firearms? Maybe you are unaware of the gun bans in Great Britain & Australia. They had registation, too, and now, only the criminals have guns, & their crime rates are up.

Japan is thinking of registering or outlawing knives, because people are using them for homicide. What do gun banners think happens when there are no more guns? It doesn’t reduce homicide or crime rates.

Have you noticed that the worst shooting sprees, like Columbine and Virginia Tech, all happen in “gun-free” zones. The reason for this is that the shooters all know that they won’t be met by any resistance. Maybe “gun-free” zones should be redesignated as “easy-kill” zones.

In the meantime, add my name to the “from my cold dead hand” list.

oh jeez… where do i start… first off bobnanner, half of your argument doesn’t even make sense logically. You used the slippery slope logical fallacy as well as the Reductio ad Hitlerum fallacy.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slippery_slope
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reductio_ad_Hitlerum

slippery slope:“A slippery slope argument states that a relatively small first step inevitably leads to a chain of related events culminating in some significant impact, much like an object given a small push over the edge of a slope sliding all the way to the bottom”.

its a pretty basic logical fallacy, which doesn’t make any sense. If you know how to read you can click my link and read into it i don’t feel like explaining basic logic here.

Ruick, all you have to do is log on any of the anti-firearms rights groups and read their agenda. They state exactly what they want—-the banning of ALL firearms by citizens in the United States of America. Ever listen to the Bradys, Schumer, Pelosi, Akaka, Feinstein, Boxer, et al? Ever look up the voting records of these politicians when it came to anti-firearms legislation? Ever read the groups that support suck legislation?
Your answer is a few keystrokes away…

the fact that you object to this must mean you have an extensive criminal record

  • Comm_reply
    ashley_emt 06/28/2009 9:02pm

Really are you kidding me because I hope you are. Do u even think that someone with an extensive criminal record would bother reading this? NO because they dont give a sh** and why would they. This does not affect them and why, again, because they dont give a sh**. Why dont they give a sh** because when they are blowing your head off with their illegal gun they know you dont have a gun to turn around and possibly blow their head off.

Ruick what makes you think that a criminal would bother complying with this law in the first place. This only keeps the law abiding citizen trying to protect themselves down.

You sound like a “typical” tree-hugging, granola-eating bike-rider…so maybe you should have things explained to you in a diferent way-
Bob Nanner is correct- confiscation IS the goal for guns. And this is only the beginning…Hitler said How forutnate for leaders that men do not think… the only reason no one else is upset right now is because they haven’t pushed any of YOUR soft spots YET…but when they Do- when they finally implement something that will cause you to remove your head from your butt and THINK- you’ll wish you had a friend with a gun that can return fire on the government trying to take your home (imminent domain) or your land- or when the government takes EVERYTHING your grandfather or father tried to leave you in his will (also in the communist manifesto which our government is starting to do)
SO here’s the advise…are you ready? Wake up and smell the socialism nimrod!

Did you read HR 45 or just the summary, ruick?

Did you read the section where the Atty General has the right to change or amend the bill AS HE SEES FIT without notice and without vote?

The legislation will have you believe that guns are a real problem. The biggest cause of accidental death of our teens in our country is auto accidents. Yet, you don’t see legislation asking us to keep our cars in a locked place empty with gas. Why? Acc gun deaths are even lower than acc deaths cause by choking or drowning. Should we have legislation that all of our food would be required to be cut into very tiny pieces?

The only purpose Gun Control legislation is to take control.

Let’s face it. This is only one more way for the government to get money from you. The bill is more about charging a fee to own a gun than it is about controlling anything. It will not deter criminals from getting guns in any way. CONGRESS: GET A GRIP!!!

    First, charge a nominal fee.
Second, raise the fee to astronomical levels.
Third, Confiscate guns from people who didn’t keep up the fees. (now that you know where they live).
Fourth, Convict anyone who “loses” or has a weapon “Stolen” as an accomplice and/or unlawful transfer of a weapon.
Fifth, Bureaucrats simply deny new license applications, no reason given.

You are complete bone head if you think that this bill does not open the door for complete control of guns and gun ownership. I have served ten years in the military (including Vietnam) and 7 years in law enforcement but if this law passes I will, as some others stated, become a criminal myself because I will not under any circumstances give up my guns.
