We need the 30 day stop gap so the idiot Senators will have the time to fight about the extension for a longer period of time.

Hmm!!! If your unemployment is getting low get a part time job if you can find one. According to what I have been reading they take what you make minus your what you get from unemployment and you can still get the difference you were to rec. on unemployment which will make you unemployment last longer until you can find a full time job. It can help you a little until full time work can be found . Formula is like this say you get $ 250.00 wkly (unemployment) working 30 hours a week part time @ $ 7.25 = 217.5 – $ 250 = 32.50 paid by unemployment extends your weeks out . IT is SOMETHING

Senate tries to extend jobless benefits deadline – again

It would also make the prevision retroactive to March 1, so the unemployed would not miss any payments.

“As we work to create jobs and get our economy moving again, we also have a responsibility to provide the unemployment insurance, “This bill ensures out-of-work Americans can meet their families’ basic needs while they are looking for a new job.” said Sen. Max Baucus, D-Mont.,

What about the Unemployed that have exhausted Tier 3 already and Tier 4 at the end of this month ..Wheres their Bill that “ENSURES” out-of-work Americans can meet their families’ basic needs while they are looking for a new job."

The unemployment extension bill is a smoke screen. It is only a date extension and does not add an immediate Tier 5 for which so many need.

  • Cindermaid 03/02/2010 4:22pm

News has reported that the extended benefits has been passed in the senate bill passed by a 78-19 vote. President Barack Obama is likely sign the bill into law quickly. This is just for one month but they say this will be give them time to pass a bill to last until Dec.

I’m feeling some hope here for those about to exhaust their 99 weeks (if I’m interpreting this correctly).Check out this link from Yahoo that just posted about 2 hours ago regarding today’s senate decision: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_budget_impasse
Look at the last sentence in this paragraph:
“Without the legislation, about 200,000 jobless people would have lost federal benefits this week alone, according to the liberal-leaning National Employment Law Project. Jobless people normally get 26 weeks of unemployment benefits and 20 more weeks in states with higher unemployment rates. The legislation extends several additional layers of benefits added since 2008 because of the stubborn recession”. Ok, so does that refer to us “99 weekers” getting an extension as well? What do you guys think?

“The legislation extends several additional layers of benefits added since 2008 because of the stubborn recession”

The extensions being voted on in the senate are only “time based” extensions of benefits, cobra, etc…. All that means is that those individuals that haven’t used the 4 tiers of benefits previously available to them now have additional weeks in which to do so.

From what info I have gathered, there is nothing in the works for individuals who are about to exhaust tier 4 this month.

“The Senate voted Tuesday night to pass a one month extension which will provide unemployment benefits as well as health care coverage through Cobra.
The House already passed the extension and President Obama signed it it Tuesday night.
This bill does not provide any additional weeks of benefits for those that have ran out or are soon to run out of benefits, this bill simply extends the deadline for qualifying for the extended benefits programs that were already in place. This bill only helps you if you happen to fall between benefit tiers within 30 days of February 28,2010.

As of now there is no verifiable information about an extension of benefits for the long term unemployed."

Always the special rules and reasons to not follow the policies and bills they agree on with that bunch in Washington.

  • TCBlackcat 03/03/2010 5:42pm

FL -HELLO ….. CONGRESS! THE LONG-TERM UNEMPLOYED NEED INCOME! PLEASE GET OFF THE POWER STRUGGLE AND JUDGMENTAL PODIUM AND GET THE LAWS PASSED TO HELP THE LONG-TERM UNEMPLOYED.

WE ARE NOT RECEIVING BENEFITS OR HOPING FOR AN EXTENSION BEFORE OUR BENEFITS RUN OUT ….. WE ARE TOTALLY WITHOUT, AND HAVE BEEN WITHOUT FOR A LONG TIME YET AGAIN.

BY THE TIME THE NOVEMBER 2009 WAS SIGNED BY THE PRESIDENT, WE WERE WITHOUT BENEFITS FOR 2 OR MORE MONTHS, AND THAT MONEY WAS QUICKLY EXHAUSTED IN ORDER TO PAY BACK DEBTS IN ORDER FOR US TO SURVIVE, FROM WAITING SO LONG. MANY OF US (INCLUDING MYSELF) HAD NO THANKSGIVING AND NO CHRISTMAS HOLIDAYS EITHER.

YES, WE NEED JOBS AND ARE STILL LOOKING, AND MANY OF US ARE ALSO PURSUING HIGHER EDUCATION, BUT WE STILL NEED MONEY TO SURVIVE AND COMMUTE IN ORDER TO RESTORE OUR LIVES. ADDITIONAL TIERS OF 50% AND 24% OF BENEFITS DID NOT CUT THE CAKE.

WE NEED FINANCIAL HELP NOW FOR AT LEAST A YEAR. PLEASE MOVE QUICKLY.

  • mullerken 03/04/2010 1:53am

    Hey Obama… Hey Congress…
30 days ??? Are you kidding ?? We need at least 26 weeks and then a 14 week extention after that.
Have any of you looked at the REAL Unemployment numbers? How about you start paying my Mortgage, car payments, utility bills and oh yes i’ll need about $600.00 dollors in food stamps…

    WAKE UP !!!!

  • Nopizza4U 03/04/2010 7:49am

Where I thought there might be a ray of hope, there is now despair. What’s happening to our country? If things continue this way the phrase “Third world nation” may soon apply to us.

CNN/HLN just had a piece on about people who are cheating on unemployment and that Sen. Byh, I think, opposes the passage of what the Senate just approved. There are cheaters in every system including the very people who run this country from Washington. Until each and every one of them is honest, straightforward and does NOTHING wrong then I don’t want to hear a damn word about anyone else. The vast majority of the unemployed are honest people who look for work regularly and can prove that.

I don’t see any of the crooks in Washington being denied paychecks, benefits or anything else even when they get caught and that seems to be a pretty regulat thing with the fat daddies. They are playing with out lives, giving money to foreign countries, foreigners in this country and approving piddly bills that are really stupid and unnecessary. Take the money from NASA and take care of Real Americans out of work. We don’t need to be in space and have no business there. Keep that money and the exorbitant paychecks to play in space right here on terra firma and we’ll all benefit.

“Grass roots effort encourages Congress to pass additional weeks of federal unemployment benefits”

“The current jobs bill that passed the Senate doesn’t extend any of those federal tiers or add any additional coverage. As it stands, once people exhaust the federal benefits now in place, they are on their own.

But there is an effort under way to add additional tiers of benefits. "

I recently received a message regarding this board.

I am from a DC PR agency, and while I cannot professionally endorse what you are trying to accomplish (conflict of interest purposes), I can provide you some information to help your cause.

I have read some of the great post regarding amending HR4213. I would like to advise another vehicle to get your message out there – a press release. All a press release needs is a:

    Headline (center space)
Summary (goes directly under heading – center space)

    (double space)

    Body

All anyone has to do is to go to each site and set up an account and post their release.

Make sure to include “key” words in the body of the release (i.e., Senator Reid, Obama, unemployment benefits, Pelosi, hardships, crime, etc.) – this will ensure more visibility and to be picked up by the media.

You can also go online to see samples of press releases.

This site has some very intelligent and articulate people – so I know that creating a solid press release will not be a problem.

Share this information on every UI board and all the Facebook contacts – and tell all to post a release each week until a tier 5 is created.

I received a message about this board from a reporter, who in turn forwarded it to me – so your media outreach is working.

Get luck to all of you!

I just watched Fox News discussion with Senator James Clyburn and it seems that Pelosi is going to push for the Healthcare Bill to be passed without a vote. How come it can happen with healthcare but not with Unemployment Extensions and added Tiers? As always it is monkey business behind closed doors in Washington. A “You scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours” government. This is outrageous and is all about election year shenanigans. And we are supposed to have faith in what Washington does and how they do it?? I don’t think so. More reasons NOT to VOTE or pay taxes. I am ashamed of all politicians and their sneeking and lying to deliverately hurt the hurting Americans.

NV, here…Anyone’s extension ended Feb 28 and still haven’t seen payment? I’d hate to waste my cell minutes to call unemployment ( I live in NV, and it can take 90minutes just to get through, and then wait on hold…)

Permanent Extension: I do agree, there should be one until all the “little people” are able to save our once great nation. In NV, the true unemployment rate is 20%, there are people who just can’t file -and oh the numbers always get reported as improving..at the very times when we just can’t file because there is promise of money, but nothing in the account. I’ve been out of work since Jan 2008…

  • Blackarachnia 04/21/2010 10:12am

I contacted my senator, Ried, by email, and he talks about this bill as if it has been a great help! Who has it helped?

  • kandyman_5x 04/22/2010 10:02am

ADD weeks to tier IV there are no jobs don’t they understand or do they just not care?

  • djk4132 07/14/2010 5:47am

I am IMPLORING that our Senators and Representatives take consideration into their hearts of the despair and suffering that this delay of benefits is having on their fellow citizens, YES, the very people who voted them into their office confident in their campaign promises that they as citizens would come first. What happened? Have the nay voters lost all touch with reality? I myself and facing utility disconnections, I am disabled and ill under a Dr’s care, so I have some outlet, but for the 10’s of thousands of people whose next stop is the street, what can they do? Please, please do not wait until July 19th, please ACT NOW.
