They didn’t “pass the bill”, They voted to close the debate and move it forward. They have to wait 30 hours to vote. Please correct me if I’m wrong.

I too am a Republican and after working since I was 16, I find myself on the “other side” at 42. My UI benefits ran out on 04-03-10, after my elected officals went on break without voting on the emergency extension. The state of CO will not even accept applications for extended benefits until the bill passes. If the bill passes, I can apply and wait up to 5 weeks for benefits to start. I am facing for the first time letting a house go back to the bank – walking away from a credit card account and kissing my 700+ credit score goodbye. I know I am not alone. I am just at the end of my financial rope and the safety net that I was able to help support others with for the past 26 years with my hard work is gone when I need it the most.

I don’t know why you think you aren’t eligible. You have been unemployed less than 99 weeks. This bill covers the people who’s UC ended. This bill is for YOU and ME. (I have been unemployed 92 days, my benefits were exhausted on 3/31 – one week before you).

They were on vacation when my benefits ran out. I wasn’t worried at all until I read your post. From what I heard, this is for people that lost their benefits recently and are 99 weeks and under unemployed.

I don’t know what we will do after this :-(
Unemployment in my state is 12% and it’s 14% for women.

Anyone watching the news this morning should have seen the report on the fact that Obama is going to ask for 1 TRILLION dollars for Haiti. Now that is laughable!! Why not ask for that money for Real Americans who need it because Washington coat us our jobs. If Washington can come up with that money, and they will, where the hell does that come from but they say there is no money to add Tiers to help the long term unemployed?? People are rising up against the healthcare nonsense and if they think all of us will sit back and let them kick us under the bus much longer they better think again. There is NO discussion at all about added Tiers. I have searched every government site and none of them are working on anything for us but let a foreign country come along and need and boom…..they have their wishes granted. I am appalled more every day by what I see this government doing to the common people.

But what does this do for people who exhausted Tier IV April 5th…. NOTHING as far as I can tell from what I’ve been digging up and I’ve been unemployed for well over a year and I lost my UC on the 5th like everyone else. So being long term unemployed I fail to see how this is supposed to get me two more months of UC when they dont mention anything about people that exhausted Tier IV on the 5th.

I turn in apps every day and almost never get a glimmer of hope, guess I’ll have to go hungry now and pray to god my car learns to run on E.

I dont soley President but listen here. When you pass a bill for healthcare that forces you to join or be fined its unconstitutional. Let me educate you on the fact that the Healthcare bill will not go into affect till his term ends. Isn’t that interesting? Additionally, he has placed such an Healthcare Bill ahead of the shape of the unemployed. Now lets get to the core. A real leader doesn’t cry “boo hoo this was a mess when I got it so don’t look at me to fix it”. The truth my dear is there has been a deficit for this country well before we were born. Another goodie, he bailed out banks, car manufactures & Haiti but was not smart enough to have built in a clause to the banks that they must begin to finance loans for infra structure “probably over your head” so that developers who were awarded Stimulas funds can access monies to place the very people that the banks put out of work. Your right he is no Jesus.

I do not believe that is the case. It is for people currently collecting from one Tier or another but it has no verbiage for those that have exhausted all Tiers. I keep watching my states unemployment website and so far, nothing suggests that they interpret this law any differently.

AnnetteNuck1 03/30/2010 4:23am

Mr. President and members on the Senate,
I hope you are enjoying your traveling and family during this holiday. I however am stressing over keeping a roof over me and my childrens head. I am a Builder and Developer. My talents certainly over ride those of my competition “men” however with the job market in my field suffering the worst hit due to others “Banks, Government” I have been unable to find work for 13 months now. I have two checks remaining for unemployment with no prospects. I have had 2 interviews “2”. I have lost my nice home, my credit is destroyed, everything I have worked for is almost gone. Where is my BAILOUT? My company has been granted one of your useless Stimulas but my company can not get financing for the Infra Structure in order to access the Stimulas funds. Will you people please get off our Holly asses and do your jobs. I vote. I count. You are suppose to hear me, hear the people your crappy decisions have affected. Pass 4851

Today there was a discussion in Washington about the Chinese currency. Mt reply to them was:

Who gives a crap about Chinese currency. I know the implications of all the different currencies but these guys, even during their break, are dealing with stuff that has NO bearing on the long term unemployed who lose all their beneifts April 5 because Washington feels it’s more important to take a 3 week vacation than help REAL American citizens. Shame on all of you but I bet you all had a great Easter while many of us had none or if we did it was at a local food kitchen. How your consciences can ignore what is happening to hard working, tax paying citizens who are out of work because of all of you is beyond me. I have never know of such insensitive, rich, immoral people as those who run America.

lpmichalski 04/19/2010 8:31am

One site says its not for the longer unemployed who have exhausted all benefits, and other sites says it is. I am quite confused. Why would they leave the 99’ers out in the cold? This hasnt been any easier on us. Im losing my home, already lost both cars because I couldnt afford them, because of that I am being sued by the financial institutions my credit is ruined and for what? This is the way I wanted my life to be? Give me a break, at least if they arent going to extend our benefits tell the creditors to get off our a$$ until we can figure things out.

cmajik001 04/18/2010 9:03am

President Obama should look right here at home, before helping other’s when Americans are homeless!! I’ve lost both of my homes to foreclosure recently. WE NEED TEIR 5 !! Everyone Call your Senators, and Congressman and call the President!! Leave messages, everyday. This is what helped bring these Bills to the table. We need to act as one, and tell them. One person can’t do this alone, but if eveyone does this everyday, it will make something happen. It worked last time!!

How can congress send $1 trillion dollars to Haiti knowing full well that this money will never be repaid, and congress is complaining about spending 1/100th that amount on people in there own country people who voted them into there current jobs.

NYER1 04/04/2010 11:43am

Vote all the incumbents out in November, out with the old, slimy, crooks! We need a new Senate and Congress and POTUS!

FL -May 17 2010 (Thank You Governor Crist, Congress and President Obama)

TALLAHASSEE – Governor Charlie Crist today signed Senate Bill (SB) 1736, extending eligibility dates for the Extended Benefits (EB) program. The EB program provides unemployment compensation to job seekers who have exhausted all other available benefits and meet all requirements. Governor Crist announced that the Florida Agency for Workforce Innovation will begin accepting EB applications at its Web site www.floridajobs.org, on Wednesday, May 19, 2010.

pongobongo 06/21/2010 7:30am

We can help the Haitians but can’t help our own. If this bill does not get passed, the senators who voted against it should be thrown out of office. It is obvious they have no idea what it is like out here. NO JOBS!!!!! Can they offer to assist us in finding jobs. If there are jobs out there…where are they? Can they let me know. I am a licensed plumber from Massachusetts. Can’t find a job anywhere. Even trying to find a job in my old trade that doesn’t pay as well…a machinist. NO JOBS there either. If they do not pass this bill soon more people are going to be losing their homes. I hope I will not be one of them. WAKE UP SENATORS. WE VOTED YOU IN. WE CAN VOTE YOU OUT!!!

sassysally50 03/26/2010 2:12pm

Now they’ve reduced the amount to Haiti or so they say. Good ole media with their BS but even if it is a dollar that is too much to send anywhere as long as America is in such horrible shape.

E5349 03/26/2010 1:51pm

No extension vote till they come back from their EASTER break ( April 12th). I wonder how they all sleep at night when there are so many of us running out of time and money. I don’t sleep well, considering I can’t find a job and my Tier 1 will run out and I will not be able to get Tier 2, thanks to those in Washington not taking care of bills HR4851 or HR4213 before they go home for two weeks. I spend my nights wondering how to feed my daughter and keep a roof over her head. I’m a single parent and the sole provider. I’ve never been on welfare or homeless, but I may be homeless soon. I will make sure that I vote in November. As far as I’m concerned both parties let us down. They were to busy fighting over the health care bill. Maybe they should walk a mile in the shoes of someone fighting just to survive. Must be nice to have a two week vacation. No worries or thoughts of being without food or shelter and no worries about those without jobs and without benefits. Thanks Congress.

By the way we won, I just watched as the Senate passed the bill H.R.4851 to extend our unemployment benefits, won 60-34.

Washington is on break until April 12th. Nothing will get done before then unless Obama or Pelosi call them all back from Easter break.

This also affects all military (active duty, retired, and their family members) by implementing a 21% cut in Medicare reimbursement to physicians. Medicare/Tricare are linked. If this is allowed to take effect it will mean cuts in care for all seniors and military. Remember, it means the military currently fighting our wars. Their family members could and will be denied access to healthcare even as their military spouses are fighting and dying for this country. This important issue is tied to Colburn’s Viagra issue among other bullshit pork!

FL -FYI (I called the UC office to check for any possible extensions for those with exhausted benefits, and was told to call back in 3 weeks for update or keep an eye on the website. It looks as though the long-term unemployed just may have a chance with this one, despite the wait; and this one will be retroactive)/April 12, 2010:

The Senate will convene at 2:00 p.m. and will be in a period of morning business until 3:00 p.m. with the time equally divided and controlled.

At 3:00 p.m., the Senate will resume the motion to proceed to H.R. 4851, the Continuing Extension Act of 2010 (UI/COBRA et al). The Republican Leader will control the time from 5:00-5:15 p.m. and the Majority Leader will control the time from 5:15-5:30 p.m.

At 5:30 p.m., the Senate will proceed to vote on the motion to invoke cloture on the motion to proceed to H.R. 4851. That will be the first vote of the day.

HopefromCA 03/26/2010 6:32pm

I feel that this is about delay, delay, delay. Congress does this over and over again. The feeling I get is that they feel if they make sure we have a gap between tiers it will force some of us back to work but all it does for the most part is force some of us to take part time work and then when the next tier comes along they don’t qualify for it because their income is too high.
