WOW lying non-99er. In a city(just the city, none of the ‘burbs) of 2.7 million (2010 census), 2000 faithful show up. That’s really something to do your rah-rah bullshit routine over isn’t it?

Perhaps when you stop your lies & stop posing as one of us lying non-99er, you rah-rah bullshit is very tiresome. How many more times you gonna’ cry? Get off this board, you are not unemployed as you admitted to Jesse Jackson Jr. on the Gang of 42 site. You are a liar. This is a place for unemployed people, neither of which category you fit into. I am not trying to hurt you but I am trying to make others here aware of the liar & fraud you really are lying non-99er. LEAVE

    Worth Repeating: The Message
The message has to start with a communication of the 99ers’, in Lakoff’s words, “deepest values and complex truths.” The 99ers are a unique political group in that we come from almost all walks of life. Some of us were (and some still are!) die-hard conservatives, others are liberal. Some of us are old, some of us are young. But there are four defining traits that we all share:

    • We are Americans.
    • We were, at one point, fully-contributing members of the economy and society.
    • All of us are suffering because of the massive transfer of wealth from the middle and lower classes to the wealthiest group.
    • What we want is not equality of result, it’s equality of opportunity.”

Can Unions and the 99ers work together?

They want to stand with the public workers in Wisconsin but 99ers are in a fight for their life hoping that the tidal wave of new activism comes to them.

See it’s bittersweet to see a progressive cause captivate this nation, holding its attention for more than the customary minute we reflexively give substance in our daily stream of awareness. But 99ers are, after all suffering in a way profoundly worse than every single scuffling worker in Wisconsin and anywhere else where brave men and women stand sturdy in an effort to keep what is theirs.

If you’re a 99er you don’t have much that’s yours anymore. Personal effects have been pared down to the bare essentials with numerous piles of collection notices taking their place. Many have no internet, no phone. They struggle to keep the power on, worry about how they will heat their home and keep feeding and clothing their kids, forever mindful that each day could be their last at home.

Organized Labor has, for the most part stayed out of the 99ers fight for additional unemployment benefits and job creation. Likely deciding to rally their troops and marshal their resources in anticipation of GOP hostility toward collective bargaining. Looking at the events in Madison it’s hard to argue with that strategy and the Unions first responsibility is of course to its dues paying members. But there is a larger issue at hand.

Unions prosper in times of economic growth, their membership rolls swell as new jobs are created and their bargaining power increases. In a down economy, with statehouses and Congress inundated by an onslaught of deficit hawks and the private sector in a state of atrophy the Unions become a tender and easy target.

Now we know the compelling economic logic of an extension and continued help for the long term unemployed almost as well as we know the human stories of tragedy and heartache. But despite that the media mostly ignores 99ers, swooping in from time to time to do a one off piece on one person’s awful tale of woe only to abandon the cause shortly thereafter.

Madison has shown that the Unions know how to get and keep media attention and it has shown the American public to be suffering from a fatigue of the spirit, a thinning of their patience with regard to the gnawing mindset that puts deficits above flesh and blood.

99ers are Americas dirty little secret, the living, breathing, and suffering evidence of a lackluster recovery, and an impotent media. Organized labor has an opportunity here, a moment in the midst of a righteous fight, with the spotlight on them, to invite 99ers into the tent and show true solidarity with their fellow workers, displaced workers who simply want a job to fight for.

From Aesop, to the lips of union workers and patriots sewn into the fabric of our greatest and most harrowing moments, these words still ring true. “United we stand, divided we fall”.

Sounds like a deal to me.

I have also, searched the web about any news of 99ers and/or unemployed being supported by these unions at these protests. Have found nada. I posted some links over on WW 589, regarding that.

  • Legion1 02/27/2011 7:01am

After looking at slideshows & reading articles about this event from across the US all morning, from CNN,MSNBC,ABC,CBS,NBC & anywhere I could find anything to do with this subject, guess what, not 1 single mention or picture of a 99er anywhere. These people are about saving what they have & want, not about what we need, same as it has been for the last year. We get nothing from these protests.

  • Sher1 02/27/2011 7:41am

THOUSANDS rally all over the states! 100.000 in Wisconsin!!!!!! 2000 in Downtown Chicago,IL. All that showed up and participated do yourselves proud and we continue the fight for HR 589 to help the 99ers in addition to stopping the CUTS of social service programs and UNION-BUSTING. No swagger in our steps, we are fighting and moving forward. http://www.moveon.org

Today I read in the local paper about how real estate will be recovering at the end of the year. Amazing how some people might believe that with the cost of basic utilities going up, property taxes going up, state income taxes going up, writoffs on house loans interest being eleminated on your federal and state income tax that people are going to start buying houses? When is Congress going to start thinking about Jobs, Jobs and Jobs and stop thinking about how to destroy the USA? In the meantime Congress needs to pass this bill to get the unemployed ready for the Jobs, Jobs and Jobs to provide for transportation, decent clothes, etc. as they claim we are in a recovery?

Also don’t forget the price of gasoline will also effect everything from shipping merchandise to less funds for monthly house payments. With the unemployment rate high you will not see wages going up to compensate for prices of necessities going up. As some of you have already indicated that the middle class people are fading out with Congress looking the other way.

Good stuff 99Survivor, you’re proving beyond a shadow of a doubt that we have been condemned to death by the rest of our fellow Americans.

Lying non-99 fraud Sher1 posts lies & half truths in an attempt to dissuade us all that there is help on the way. There is no help coming for us, we’ve been thrown under the bus & hung out to dry. There is no one fighting for us 99ers as the lying, fraud non-99er Sher1 tries to make us believe. Just what is this persons agenda?

Seeing as I’ve been reported at least 3 times in the last 2 days by the lying non-99er, over nothing but the truth, I once again expect to be banned. I will say so long, just in case I do get banned, to the posters here I’ve interacted with here. If I don’t get banned, I’ll continue on here.

A WARNING: Sher1 is not one of us, she admitted to not being a 99er in a post on the Gang of 42 website,(her post is there) to Jesse Jackson Jr. She also admitted to not being homeless.

    Beware of this poster.

    YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED

I suggest you give your phone number to the Admins here too, since your name is one of the ones being slandered as being me.

The 99ers situation is too serious to allow someone to discredit those really trying to help.

Hey “Was”, I’d be honored to be you I believe, you’re much smarter than this simple old factory puke. If Donnie Shaw has half a brain & does just a wee bit of investigating, he will see who is spreading lies and disinformation on this site.

I see nothing wrong with calling someone out who posts a “supposed” email directing people to catch a bus, but doesn’t tell them where to catch that bus or if you have to pay for a ticket. Unless you post all the facts, it shouldn’t be posted.

On another point…2000 people showing (questionable #)in Chicago is nothing to brag about, 20,000 maybe, but not 2,000 out of 2.7 million Chicagoan’s & the surrounding area’s population of almost 9 million.

  • postime 02/27/2011 9:21am

99ers are off the radar screen….Kaput…..Political poison.

Sad but true…..Say what you will about the unions but fact is being a non-union tradesman I would have zero chance of making any kind of a living without them setting a bar for wages.

If the unions get broke we are all toast. They’ve been going after the minimum wage for years and make no mistake the laws that protect us in the workplace are on their agenda. My God….They just took a shot a defunding the Labor Relations Board….They have no fear…

It’s pretty obvious to me they won the P.R. war on unemployment extensions and now they’ve moved on to their next targets….

Anyone see a jobs bill yet?…..Their idea of job creation is tax cuts for the wealthy coupled with financial deregulation…..Interesting combination….Same old song and dance….

It may have taken 30 years but between the economy and the Supreme Court we’re finally seeing the true effects of the Reagan revolution….
