99ers Organizing To Rally for Tier 5 Unemployment Extension; CBO Estimate Questioned
    February 8th, 2011, Michael Danielson

NREUI — the Nationwide Rally to Extend Unemployment Insurance — is seeking names and locations in an attempt to set up a massive, coordinated, peaceful demonstration to encourage Congress to enact a Tier 5 unemployment extension. The rally hopes to see at least 25 people at each of at least 50 unemployment offices across the country. They currently have less than two hundred names; if you know a 99er, send them a link!

It’s sad that, in a country where thousands of people will rally in New York, Atlanta, and San Francisco to support the citizens of Egypt, no such rallies are in progress objecting to the abuse of Americans by our own government. And yes, when you’ve been stripped of your income, your personal standing, and your dignity by filthy Wall Street shenanigans and then the government dedicated to looking out for the People turns its back on you, that’s abuse.

Tier 5 Unemployment Extension – Where Have All the Advocates Gone?

WasMiddleClass – You bring up some great points. I just read today that Americans will be spending 53 million on a new rail system? Now why I first argue wasteful spending, I wonder if it wasn’t part of the package deal by the Chinese loan. 53 million would be a great start in getting the homeless and unemployed off the street as well as build jobs. Yes? It will be interesting to hear the (talking out of both sides of the Mouth) In the coming months. Republicans want to stop the over spending but in the same breath want to send pork barrel spending on projects that could be placed on hold until the jobs increase and we get every unemployed (American) back to work.

sclark113- Supposedly Senator Lee is suppose to bring the bill back up today..that of course is after the who rah rah taking place this afternoon.

    Solidarity Amid Connecticut’s Unemployed

HAMDEN — Beth O’Connell earned $22 an hour at AT&T before she was laid off three years ago.

The mother of four has since lost her home, declared bankruptcy, moved in with her mother-in-law, and exhausted her 99 weeks of unemployment assistance.

After applying for hundreds of jobs and getting only a few interviews, she landed part-time employment as a lunch aide at an elementary school. She now earns minimum wage for 15 hours a week. There are no benefits, and if there’s no school, there’s no work.

“We want our benefits extended beyond 99 weeks,” she said at a rally last week outside the state Department of Labor’s office in Hamden. “We need help.”

As O’Connell spoke, volunteers handed out flyers to people entering the Department of Labor. The flyers advertised a new group in New Haven that aimed to help the jobless get access to services and asked them to lobby U.S. Congress to extend unemployment benefits.

“The jobless isolate themselves because we’re ashamed,” Dawn Bliesener told the crowd of about 20.

    “We want to change that.”

That’s why Bliesener helped form the People’s Center Jobs and Unemployment Crisis Committee. They meet weekly (Thursdays, 5 p.m., 37 Howe St., New Haven) and, “We will help you with rent, foreclosure, food, heating clothing. You name it, I will find it,” says Bliesener. “We will help you with resumes, with finding jobs.

“I have been without. I know what it feels like.”

Bliesener lied about her age to start working at age 14. Now, at 55, she says, “I’ve paid into the state of Connecticut and the federal government all those years. They’re not giving me anything that’s not mine. We do not sit around on a hammock waiting for a government check.”

News about us, they desrve traffic for writing about us please visit these sites

“Boehner has indicated he might support more benefits — if they are paid for by other budget cuts. Lee’s spokesman, Joel Payne, told mlive.com, the Michigan state online news site, that there is no budget offset to pay for the cost of the bill.

Payne said his boss would be open to budget offsets, but thinks the benefits should be classified as emergency funding and the cost added to the deficit."

“Lee said her office estimated this bill would cost $16 billion. She said she would look for budget cuts to offset its cost if Republicans refused to allow the bill to reach the floor under an emergency designation excepting it from pay-as-you-go rules”

“Those who complain about the spending associated with this bill ignore two key factors. First, this bill costs only a fraction of what we spent on tax breaks for millionaires last year. Second, unemployment benefits have always been considered emergency spending.”
    http://thehill.com/blogs/congress-blog/economy-a-budget/143005—supporting-our-most-vulnerable-workers-in-their-hour-of-need

“The bill would provide 14 weeks of emergency unemployment benefits to people who have exhausted all their benefits and are still unemployed.”
    http://www.examiner.com/unemployment-in-san-diego/lee-scott-call-on-house-republican-leadership-on-behalf-of-99ers

The more clicks they get the more money they make the more money they make from stories about the unemployed the more they will write about the unemployed.

Remember to google “unemployment extension” “long term unemployed” and other such terms several times a day. We have won this fight before we will do it again.

If you did not get a chance to see the Ed Show last night, please take the time to follow the link provided – Ed was in rare form providing GREAT support for the 99ers and mentions a brief story about one of “Michael’s Plan” volunteers Gerry DePietro that attended the press conference in D.C. yesterday (God Bless her!).

I also want to personally thank all that have responded to my article yesterday – it did my heart good to see all of you respond. We all know that now is the time to quadruple our efforts again – we have been too quiet for too long now – it is time to shake the tree again – God Bless us one and ALL!

Scott- Thank you so much for your continued effort to help the 99ers. I did post on the latest story you wrote. I am not sure of others but I am finding it hard to get work and I’ve tried everything short of holding up a business and demand work. We need to drive a petition that the HR 6556 Bill Be priority in both Houses. 99ers that are not out on the street live only on hope, those of us that can continue this fight need to make the unheard voices herd once and for all. If we can raise 1.5 million signatures and call it an emergency Bill
they be dammed not to hear us.

The Term “Semper Fi” meant “Always Faithful” has always resonated in this former U.S.Marines heart. There are many other service personnel like me out there. Trying to find a job and raise a family is not as easy as it once was, but we continue to search. Sacrificing our lives for a better country and protect and save lives of people we do not even know and yet, the best decent thanks each of us receive is a job well done, a piece of paper that acknowledges our pride and commitment for outstanding service to our country. This said and not that I am ungrateful, but it does nothing to secure a job on the outside. It does nothing to put food on the table or shelter over the many families that continue to be impoverish and struggling. “We the People” simple three words that voiced our American way of life, had purpose and meaning. Now is not the tie to turn our backs, but come together as One Country in our darkest hours. Your fellow American Man ,Woman and Child need you America !!!!
