There is no need to take land from the national park to build a school. Private land is available. Fortunately, the Governor and Representative Christensen have been wise enough to pursue those alternatives and the newspaper reports that a government official has already met with representatives of an existing private school regarding use of facilities that are already in existence. This legislation is unnecessary, and if passed, would create a terrible precedent that would threaten national parks all over the U.S. The economy of St. John is dependent on the tourist industry which exists because of the amazing national park. The area that is proposed for this large development is right at the beautiful entrance from the center line road right into the heart of the north shore beach area. It will also remove the existing facility out of the high-traffic area it is is in and also remove it from the center of town right in the middle of the bar/restaurant area. f St John need a modern educational facility.
