There are many many people in the housing and mortgage industry who are loosing their homes and struggling even to put food on the table. These weren't speculators but hard working men and women who found themselves in the wrong industry. So now they're living in apartments of depending on other family members to help them survive. If you cannot afford to live in your house the best thing is to SELL IT before it forecloses, or rent it out. I love NY, that will always be my home. But I wanted a house so I moved to KY. If you cannot afford to live somewhere you adapt and evolve, like nature. For a 3 bedroom home in NY I would be paying well over $1,000 a month for my mortgage. In KY I pay $600 a month. My mortgage, heating and water bills combined don't even amount to how much I was paying for rent in NY.
