By the time the federal government withholds, income tax, FICA and Medicare, in addition to all the real estate and personal property taxes, sales taxes, school district tax, college district tax, federal highway tax, state and county road and bridge tax, sales tax, hospital district tax, etc. ad infinitum, our earned income dollars are squeezed to death at around the tune of $00.48 cents for every #1.00 of gross income we earn...and the so called government leaders have the gall to ask for more to send to foreigners, and subsidize illegal aliens here, and let hundreds of thousands of U S Citizens lose their jobs, lose their homes, and in many cases see families break apart and go begging?

This IS NOT what I spent 39 months fighting war in Southeast Asia for back during the 1960's.

So in my opinion it's time for America first and some good old fashion Jingoism for about ten years at least! </content>

What in reality our government is doing in abstensia is sticking their hands in our pockets anytime they wish and take money that doesn't belong to anyone but ourselves.

I ask anyone in favor of this proposal what they would do if "I" walked up to them and stuck my hand in their pocket and took their money without asking for permission....It would be the very same thing as what the governement does.

It's one thing for our government to be charitable, but when they want hundreds of millions or billions more of our dollars to send overseas, they should request it by putting it up for voter referendum and let voters decide whether they approve of the proposal instead of a "don't even ask the voters, theft by taxation."

If U S taxpayers had no more to worry about than the federal government taxing them such issues as additional monies for foreign aid wouldn't be that much of a problem. But....

...the problem is all the other taxes collected from U S Citizens at the state, county, and local levels of government.

Some of the more populous states like New York, Texas and California have as many as 54 separate OVERT taxing agencies, not to mention all the hidden taxes collected through utility companies, the telephone/cable/satellite organizations.

Are we men and women and put an end to legalized theft by government or are we squeaky teeny mice that are going to continue to run in fear of govenment and hide in our little holes....those my friends and fellow citizens are the questions. </content>

There is definitely plenty of debt and poverty in the world. But, we should first consider our own problems here in the US before making any more commitments outside the country than we already have. We need to be focused on stabilizing Social Security and Medicare, strengthening controls on our welfare sytems and other social services, reducing medical costs, and reducing poverty at home before we look any further. Once we get a better handle on our own domestic issues we will be better prepared to assist elsewhere. We are already the world leader in foreign aid and have been for decades. This would only committ us further. </content>

By the way, I agree with ABNU; stop trying to pass bills designed to dip into the American citizens' pocket. Further, if those in Congress (both branches)feel the need to give the world money, why not take it our of YOUR private reserves of money. Maybe even use some of your contributing lobbyists' funds to cover the mega-billions this would take. </content>

Another thing or two about Obama and his...ahem..."first time I've ever been proud to be an American" wife.

With "her" attitude I wouldn't let her sweep and mop the Lincoln bedroom in the White House, much less accept her as the wife of a seated president unless she got down on her knees on world wide T V and apologized to the citizens of this nation.

Second, with "her" demonstrated attitude, rest assured that if Obama IS elected that every black extremist in this nation is going to line up at the White House and put pressure on Obama to make "the we want something for nothing caws our ansesta's wuz slaves" reparations.

What blacks in this nation ought to consider where they would be today, if they were lucky enough to be born and live, if there had been an America that never had slavery
on this continent.

Looks like bill this is following the UN lead; as usual to nowhere. When there are governments that prevent economic progress in their country, why should we help that government stay in power? Picture Zimbabwe, the former breadbasket of Africa, where the people are starving under a tyrant&#8217;s misrule. Better that we send the people weapons and food if we really believe in helping humanity in such countries lift themselves up from poverty, establish representative government and the rule of law.

That sounds cruel, but since oppressive governments are don&#8217;t seem to fall easily without outside force being applied and when they are in effect propped up by international aid, why help them remain in power. Is that being a humanitarian? When we do intervene over human rights, as in Somalia, those very people who cry for helping the people abandon our efforts when Americans are placed in danger and killed. Are humanitarians risk aversive when help can be given to make permanent changes in a country or do the NGOs want &#8220;job&#8221; security?

I also laugh at this attempt by Senator Obama since he apparently will not help his grandmother in Kenya; she lives without running water nor electricity and is a women he honors as he said in his March 8, 2008 International Women&#8217;s Day message. No personal responsibility here. So instead he initiates a bill that will send my money via taxes instead of his money when he and his wife had a $4.24 million gross income in 2007; but he has no problem with supporting his vile, anti-American minister to the tune of $26,000.

Senator Obama seems a bit to hypocritical to me and also to darn free with American&#8217;s tax money.

so if the people in the other country are hungry we're automatically in charge and we can overstep that country's leadership and take responsibility (for the sake of the people). on the other hand the war in iraq, a rich country where people were brutally murdered by their own government, is wrong because 'that' was a sovereign nation.

If you really believe that the rich have too much and don't pay their fare share, why do you keep passing bills that take money from me? I can't find a job. Shouldn't we fix the jobs issue first? If you want to help people overseas (or in Mexico) the best thing you can do is to *go there* (and *then* play god).

In this bill I learned there is a ban on small arms which leaves the general public defenseless and enforcement would be enforced by UN troops, commits us to annual taxation of 7% of US gross national product. Many other items within this bill will be terrible for the average American and the American economy. I do not believe the average American knows Obama does not fly our American Flag. The middle American can barely feed his own, how does anyone in there right mind think they can feed a starving world? Are Americans being sold out?

Live 8/G8. It's not the British so we're supposed to agree to having a percentage of our country's GDP/GNP income tax taken and sent overseas without a vote in Congress? This is taxation of out country's income for foreign governments. If it's not their goevernments, it's NGOs. The money taken out of our GDP/GNP income tax will be used by the governments and NGOs for their own people and the dollar getting to the guy on the street will be, maybe 15 cents and it won't be cash. No one is getting the US GDP/GNP tax money, but friends of the administration.

Obama wants to play with Hollywood and Singers. Please. 'yes we can.' A new dem tax on our country's income, so the President can pay off friends is ridiculous.

ABNU, janaid2001, Anonymous, you couldn't be more right. I cannot BELIEVE anybody could seriously consider the Obamination for the Presidency. I thought Prexy was supposed to defend the Constitution first &amp; foremost, and advocate for and support the U.S. and her domestic and strategic interests FIRST ahead of anything else. And I thought such a person was expected to have enough moral stamina to reject "help" from anybody who would glorify the mass-murderer Guevara, or his ilk.

The man is NOT morally serious at all. And this Global Poverty Bill is an unprintable word, for all the reasons everybody's already given. </content>
