If there's a statistical difference in the number of foodborne illnesses spread by small farms and those spread by larger industry - as there naturally would be - then should we give some credit to the scale of operations? The more people you feed, the more you have the potential to make ill. The FDA has posted its share of letters of warning to small businesses with insufficient storage capacity/conditions, pest infestations, and unintended additives.

The USDA doesn't currently have the power to close factory farms that violate food safety regulations. Check out Kevin's Law. The law has to be changed so that the USDA can actually have the right to close facilities down, otherwise they have no power except to cite the violation. That means factory farms that consistently violate health and worker safety codes can remain open, even with multiple violations.

They can also take farmer's to court who live next to farms that use monsanto seed, if the pollen travels to their farm and fertilizes non-monsanto seed, monsanto has been known to file a lawsuit against the farmer who didn't even buy their seed and was saving what he thought was the seed he bought certified organic. Contamination rights, apparently.

saving seed is illegal when you plant a seed designed by monsanto. you sign a technology agreement when you buy. this is just expanding this power a little at a time.

Maybe Whole Foods doesn't know the full implications. But I imagine that they know now. I told them, and I urge everyone here to do the same. If any company would have both the motive and the power to stop this atrocity, they would.

This is a blatantly UNCONSTITUTIONAL bill - notice that it defines a state as a state - not the fifty (50) states. It is territorial law that will be unlawfully extended to the fifty states!

Time to repeal the 17th amendment and get the states back in control of our future!

This insideous bill, introduced by the wife of a Monsanto executive, is a test to see how much the American people can be suckered. It is Monsanto's stated goals to control the world's food production, to eliminate all competitors, and to require farmers to use genetically-modified seeds only they can provide. The health effects of eating crops produced by the seeds are horrific, but have been suppressed and covered-up. Organic farmers grow the best quality food and nobody in their right mind would prefer GMO foods once they know the risks, and taste the difference. This is just a further erosion of personal freedoms by the Obama wrecking crew.
