Cont: article goes on to say :

Democrats said it would be heartless to cut off unemployment benefits to the long-term jobless and contended that the benefits inject demand into the economy, helping to lift it.

heartless to cut off :

And yet that is exactly what they are doing to the long-term that have exhausted tier 3 and Tier 4 ..

Beantownsassy, I read in a blog today that Nancy Pelosi said not enough people are complaining about needing Tier V benefits to add them into the current bill so I called her office and complained that Tier V benefits are definitely needed. Her phone number is 202-225-4965. Please, everybody that needs Tier V benefits call Pelosi, Reed and any of the others and let them know that we need Tier V benefits added to this bill.

I just called Harry Reid's office and was told that in fact there is no Tier V benefits included in H.R.4213 but that they are working on a separate bill to address the longterm unemployed and the Tier V benefits. I don't know whether to believe them or not. </content>

We want them to add Tier V to this as an amendment. It would be the fastest way to get additional weeks without another gap. If we don't get it added by Easter break we are SOL.

&quot;Grass roots effort encourages Congress to pass additional weeks of federal unemployment benefits&quot;

&quot;The current jobs bill that passed the Senate doesn't extend any of those federal tiers or add any additional coverage. As it stands, once people exhaust the federal benefits now in place, they are on their own.

But there is an effort under way to add additional tiers of benefits. &quot;
