Legislation Before Congress

Dear Mr. Wriston:

Thank you for getting in touch with me to express your views about H.R.
514, FISA Sunsets Extension Act of 2011. It's good to hear from you.

I appreciate knowing of your opposition to this legislation. One of my
guiding principles here in the Senate is that Marylanders have a right
to know, to be heard, and to be represented. Information from people
like you is essential if I am to be not only the Senator from Maryland,
but also the Senator for Maryland. Knowing of your views will be very
helpful to me.

Thanks again for contacting me. If I can be of assistance in the
future, or if there is any other federal legislation on which you would
like to comment, please feel free to let me know.

Sincerely,
Barbara A. Mikulski
United States Senator

An Important Message from Congressman Andy Harris

December 30, 2011

Dear Mr. Wriston,

My job in Congress is to represent your views, protect and strengthen
America for you and to use my offices to serve you and your family.
Your priorities, interests, and concerns are very important and your
feedback and suggestions are the driving force behind my work and I
would like to invite you to receive email updates and respond to survey
questions.

The most cost effective way to communicate with you is through the
email newsletter. This message will regularly update you on current
events and issues facing the district, without spending taxpayer money
on postage. Please click here to sign up for the email newsletter
. During most of an
election year, like 2012, House rules prohibit members of Congress from
regularly communicating with you by using methods other than email to
send out such information.

In addition to signing up for the newsletter, I'm also always
interested in knowing how you feel about the many important issues
facing our neighborhoods, district and the country. To help better
understand your views, positions and concerns, please take a few
moments to complete the brief survey (click here to take the survey)
about some of the important issues
facing Americans today. Many members of Congress have ignored the
concerns of the people for too long, but together we can reverse this
trend.

For your convenience, contact information for all of the 1st
congressional district offices is included in the box at the bottom of
this email. Your input is very important as we work together and find
common sense solutions to these important issues.

Note to Congressional staff & elected officials reading this: this letter was sent through Contact-Congress features on OpenCongress.org, a free public resource website, but in the future we seek to compel the U.S. Congress to adopt fully open technology for constituent communications. For more information how your office can better handle public feedback through an open API and open standards, contact us -- even today, there are significantly more efficient and responsive ways for our elected officials to receive email feedback than the status quo of individual webforms. For greater public accountability in government, we must make the process of writing one's members of Congress more accessible and empowering. Looking ahead, we will release more data from Contact-Congress letters and Congressional response rates back into the public commons. This will result in a new open data source on bills & issues people care about, as well as encourage best practices in constituent communications and make it possible to grade members of Congress on their responsiveness & citizen satisfaction.
