Dear Mr. Maynard,

Knowing of our shared support for Second Amendment rights, I wanted to
let you know of legislation I supported that recently passed the House
of Representatives to protect law-abiding gun owners and their
constitutional rights to bear arms.

Like you, I agree that the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding,
responsible Nevadans must not be infringed. That is why I voted for
H.R. 822, the National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act, which would
allow any person with a valid state-issued concealed firearm permit to
carry a concealed firearm in any state that issues concealed firearm
permits, or that does not prohibit the carrying of concealed firearms
for lawful purposes. This bill would not create a federal licensing
system; rather, it would require the states to recognize each others'
carry permits, just as they recognize drivers' licenses and carry
permits held by armored car guards. I supported and voted for this
bill, which passed the House of Representatives and now goes to the
Senate for consideration.

Furthermore, I will oppose any measure that places further restrictions
on the millions of responsible Americans who choose to exercise their
Second Amendment rights. Please be assured that I share your strong
support for our Second Amendment rights, and I will remember your
concerns should any bill attacking our constitutional rights be
considered by the House of Representatives.

I appreciate the opportunity to update your on this important issue,
and welcome your input. For additional information, please visit my

ever may be of assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

DR. JOE HECK
Member of Congress

Note to Congressional staff & elected officials reading this: this letter was sent through Contact-Congress features on OpenCongress.org, a free public resource website, but in the future we seek to compel the U.S. Congress to adopt fully open technology for constituent communications. For more information how your office can better handle public feedback through an open API and open standards, contact us -- even today, there are significantly more efficient and responsive ways for our elected officials to receive email feedback than the status quo of individual webforms. For greater public accountability in government, we must make the process of writing one's members of Congress more accessible and empowering. Looking ahead, we will release more data from Contact-Congress letters and Congressional response rates back into the public commons. This will result in a new open data source on bills & issues people care about, as well as encourage best practices in constituent communications and make it possible to grade members of Congress on their responsiveness & citizen satisfaction.
