A Message from Congressman Leonard Boswell

Dear Dr. Hess:

I appreciate you taking the time to share with me your views regarding
the environment. The views of my fellow Iowans are an essential
component of my decision making process as a Member of Congress.
I understand your concerns regarding the availability and protection of
clean water. As you know, former Senator Russell Feingold introduced S.
787, the Clean Water Restoration Act, on April 2, 2009 during the 111th
Congress. This legislation sought to amend the Federal Water Pollution
Control Act (Clean Water Act) in order to reaffirm federal jurisdiction
over all waters of the United States. S. 787 was not considered before
the end of the 111th Congress, and to date no similar legislation has
been introduced during the 112th Congress. Please be assured that I will
keep your views in mind should the full House consider similar
legislation during the 112th Congress.
These are challenging times as we work together to revive our economy
and rebuild the middle class. As your Congressman, I am ready to take on
these challenges in the 112th Congress, including creating jobs, growing
Iowa's industries and small businesses, and stopping the outsourcing of
U.S. jobs. During the 112th Congress, I will remain an advocate for
Iowa's families by supporting real tax relief for working Iowans,
education assistance for Iowa's students, and quality-of-life programs
that keep Iowa families healthy and active. I periodically provide
electronic updates on issues that are important to my constituents. If
you would like to receive the E-newsletter, please sign up at my Web

please feel free to contact me or my office if ever you think we may be
of assistance.

Sincerely,

Leonard L. Boswell

Thank you for sharing your thoughts with me regarding the Clean Water Restoration Act.  This act was introduced in the 111th Congress, and must be reintroduced in the 112th before it can be considered by the Senate.

Again, I appreciate knowing your thoughts on this important matter and I will keep them in mind.

Sincerely,

Note to Congressional staff & elected officials reading this: this letter was sent through Contact-Congress features on OpenCongress.org, a free public resource website, but in the future we seek to compel the U.S. Congress to adopt fully open technology for constituent communications. For more information how your office can better handle public feedback through an open API and open standards, contact us -- even today, there are significantly more efficient and responsive ways for our elected officials to receive email feedback than the status quo of individual webforms. For greater public accountability in government, we must make the process of writing one's members of Congress more accessible and empowering. Looking ahead, we will release more data from Contact-Congress letters and Congressional response rates back into the public commons. This will result in a new open data source on bills & issues people care about, as well as encourage best practices in constituent communications and make it possible to grade members of Congress on their responsiveness & citizen satisfaction.
