H.R.204 Congressional Pay Cut Act
I am writing as your constituent in the 12th Congressional district of Ohio. I support H.R.204 - Congressional Pay Cut Act, and am tracking it using OpenCongress.org, the free public resource website for government transparency and accountability. A measly 5% pay cut is nothing. there should be no delay and it should be at least 15 to 20%
You are setting fat and happy on the Public dole and most in no way deserve the lavish lifestyle you take from your EMPLOYERS>

I demand to know why ALL of you in Congress have not supported and voted for this bill! The majority of you do not need the outrageous pay you have greedily voted for yourselves.

Dear Greg:

Thank you for getting in touch with me about salaries for members of Congress.

During these difficult economic times, I can understand your concerns about this important issue.

With this in mind, the Taking Responsibility for Congressional Pay Act would have reduce salaries for members of Congress by five percent beginning January 1, 2011. It was not voted on during the 111th Congress. Should similar legislation come before the Senate during the 112th Congress, I will be sure to keep your views in mind.

Otherwise, I certainly do not believe that members of Congress should be receiving any raises at this time. I supported legislation (S.620) to eliminate the automatic COLA increase for Members of Congress. S.620 passed the Senate in March 2009 and on April 28th, the House followed the Senate?s lead, unanimously voting to pass legislation that would block the annual cost of living increase to members.

Thank you again for getting in touch with me.

Sincerely,

Sherrod Brown
United States Senator

Note to Congressional staff & elected officials reading this: this letter was sent through Contact-Congress features on OpenCongress.org, a free public resource website, but in the future we seek to compel the U.S. Congress to adopt fully open technology for constituent communications. For more information how your office can better handle public feedback through an open API and open standards, contact us -- even today, there are significantly more efficient and responsive ways for our elected officials to receive email feedback than the status quo of individual webforms. For greater public accountability in government, we must make the process of writing one's members of Congress more accessible and empowering. Looking ahead, we will release more data from Contact-Congress letters and Congressional response rates back into the public commons. This will result in a new open data source on bills & issues people care about, as well as encourage best practices in constituent communications and make it possible to grade members of Congress on their responsiveness & citizen satisfaction.
