H.R.2309 CPR Act
I am writing as your constituent in the 3rd Congressional district of Minnesota. I support H.R.2309 - CPR Act, and am tracking it using OpenCongress.org, the free public resource website for government transparency and accountability.

I beilieve the US Post Office is a necessary part of our lives. What I don't think is necessary is delivery 6 days a week. We could go down to 5 days a week Tuesday-Saturday.

Sincerely,
Shannon Thein

Replying to your message
Thank you for taking the time to e-mail me. This is a confirmation that
we have received your message. One of the most important parts of my job
is listening to what the people of Minnesota have to say to me. I am
here in our nation's capital to do the public's business on behalf of
the people of our state.

Please continue to visit my website at http://www.klobuchar.senate.gov

frequently updated with current news and events regarding my work in the
U.S. Senate.

Additionally, many constituents ask about tracking the progress of
legislation. One useful tool is to regularly check my website. Another
resource I recommend is the Library of Congress legislative information

Responding to your message

Dear Shannon:

Thank you for sharing your views about the financial challenges facing
the U.S. Postal Service (USPS).

As you may know, the USPS is facing significant financial challenges.
In 2010 alone, they suffered an $8.5 billion deficit that has grown
even larger in 2011. At this time, the USPS has enough funding to last
until August 1, 2012.

There are several bills being offered for consideration to address the
financial solvency of the USPS and ensure it continues to provide our
country with reliable mail service.

One bill, H.R. 1351, the United States Postal Service's Pension
Obligation Recalculation & Restoration Act, seeks to overcome financial
challenges by redistributing funds overcharged to the Postal Service
and using them to pay for its Retiree Health Benefit Fund and workers'
compensation expenses.

Another, H.R. 2309, the Postal Reform Act, would establish a Commission
on Postal Reorganization, and require the USPS to develop and submit a
plan for reorganization and consolidation of postal retail facilities,
mail processing facilities, and USPS area and district offices. It
would also allow the Postal Service to provide for five-day delivery of
mail and make adjustments to its rural delivery schedule.

Both of these bills have been referred to the House Committee on
Oversight and Government Reform, of which I am not a member. Other
reform initiatives are likely to be discussed as well. I look forward
to reviewing the committee's recommendations and will keep your views
in mind.

Thanks again for sharing your views, as I appreciate hearing from you.
Please let me know whenever I can be of assistance.

Sincerely,

PG>
Erik Paulsen

Note to Congressional staff & elected officials reading this: this letter was sent through Contact-Congress features on OpenCongress.org, a free public resource website, but in the future we seek to compel the U.S. Congress to adopt fully open technology for constituent communications. For more information how your office can better handle public feedback through an open API and open standards, contact us -- even today, there are significantly more efficient and responsive ways for our elected officials to receive email feedback than the status quo of individual webforms. For greater public accountability in government, we must make the process of writing one's members of Congress more accessible and empowering. Looking ahead, we will release more data from Contact-Congress letters and Congressional response rates back into the public commons. This will result in a new open data source on bills & issues people care about, as well as encourage best practices in constituent communications and make it possible to grade members of Congress on their responsiveness & citizen satisfaction.
