S.968 PIPA
I am writing as your constituent in the 6th Congressional district of Maryland. I oppose S.968 - PIPA, and am tracking it using OpenCongress.org, the free public resource website for government transparency and accountability. I mainly disagree with this bill because i am a young adult and the websites i most use will be targeted by this bill. This bill could negatively impact the progress or success of the websites that are in violation of its contents. 99% of users oppose this bill making me feel as if my viewpoints are shared by many others.

Sincerely,
Benjamin Green

Re: Message for Roscoe

Dear Mr. Green:

Thank you for contacting me with concerns regarding the Stop Online
Piracy Act. I appreciate the opportunity to respond.

The Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) would authorize the Attorney General
to seek a court order against a U.S.-directed foreign Internet site
committing or facilitating online piracy to require the owner,
operator, or domain name registrant, or the site or domain name itself
if such persons are unable to be found, to cease and desist further
activities constituting specified intellectual property offenses.

SOPA would also require online service providers, Internet search
engines, payment network providers, and Internet advertising services,
upon receiving a copy of a court order relating to an AG action, to
carry out certain preventative measures including withholding services
from an infringing site or preventing users located in the United
States from accessing the infringing site.

I share the concerns by many that the bill as written failed to ensure
a balance between the compensation and protection of intellectual
property right s and Americans' access to information on the Internet
without unlawful government censorship.

After widespread opposition against SOPA, the bill never made it to the
House Floor for a vote.

Thank you for contacting my office and sharing your opinion with me on
this important piece of legislation. For information on my future
votes, I encourage you to visit my website
http://www.house.gov/bartlett where
you can sign up to receive e-mail updates regarding my legislative
activity. It is a privilege to serve you in the U.S. House of
Representatives.

Sincerely,

Roscoe Bartlett
Member of Congress

Note to Congressional staff & elected officials reading this: this letter was sent through Contact-Congress features on OpenCongress.org, a free public resource website, but in the future we seek to compel the U.S. Congress to adopt fully open technology for constituent communications. For more information how your office can better handle public feedback through an open API and open standards, contact us -- even today, there are significantly more efficient and responsive ways for our elected officials to receive email feedback than the status quo of individual webforms. For greater public accountability in government, we must make the process of writing one's members of Congress more accessible and empowering. Looking ahead, we will release more data from Contact-Congress letters and Congressional response rates back into the public commons. This will result in a new open data source on bills & issues people care about, as well as encourage best practices in constituent communications and make it possible to grade members of Congress on their responsiveness & citizen satisfaction.
