Mark Hopson
Dear Mark,
Thank you for contacting me regarding Wisconsin's agriculture industry
and the upcoming 2012 Farm Bill.
Farming is an important part of Wisconsin's heritage and economy. Over
350,000 Wisconsinites work in agriculture or about 10% of the
workforce. Wisconsin's agriculture economy is worth over $60 billion
and 12% of our state's economy. Wisconsin farmers produce a wide range
of products from dairy and cranberries to ginseng and grains.
I know firsthand the hard work of farming. I spent summers on my
family's farm, milking cows and bailing hay. I also know that
Wisconsin farmers need to be rewarded for their hard work. We must keep
our export markets open, and the lock and dam system operating, so that
farmers can sell their goods around the world.
We must also ensure price transparency and fairness for farmers. It
hurts dairy farmers not knowing the price of milk until weeks after it
is sold. I will support legislation that improves the pricing
mechanism and promotes risk management tools so that family farms can
better weather the fluctuations in the market and stay in business.
I believe one of my most important duties as your Senator is to listen
to the views of the citizens of Wisconsin and, in turn, communicate my
views. I hope I have accomplished that with you.
Thank you again for taking the time to share your concerns with me on
this issue. I apologize for any delay you have experienced in receiving
this reply. Since taking office in January, my office has received over
250,000 pieces of correspondence. We are working hard to respond to
your concerns in a timely manner.
Please feel free to contact me in the future with anything important to
you or your family. It is an honor to serve you and the good people of
Wisconsin.
Sincerely,
Ron Johnson
United States Senator

I support President Obama’s initiative for the Green Jobs Act 2007.I humbly believe the Green Jobs Act of today will help create the blue-collar jobs of tomorrow. I sincerely believe it is imperative that we invest in that future, and yes it does cost!! Creating a labor force that help reduce if not eliminate our dependency on crude oil could possibly help reduce our tendency towards war.
Note to Congressional staff & elected officials reading this: this letter was sent through Contact-Congress features on OpenCongress.org, a free public resource website, but in the future we seek to compel the U.S. Congress to adopt fully open technology for constituent communications. For more information how your office can better handle public feedback through an open API and open standards, contact us -- even today, there are significantly more efficient and responsive ways for our elected officials to receive email feedback than the status quo of individual webforms. For greater public accountability in government, we must make the process of writing one's members of Congress more accessible and empowering. Looking ahead, we will release more data from Contact-Congress letters and Congressional response rates back into the public commons. This will result in a new open data source on bills & issues people care about, as well as encourage best practices in constituent communications and make it possible to grade members of Congress on their responsiveness & citizen satisfaction.
