Dear Mr. Bishton,
Thank you for contacting me regarding H.R. 1148, the Stop Trading on
Congressional Knowledge Act. As your Congressman, it is beneficial for
me to hear your thoughts on this important issue.
H.R. 1148 was introduced by Representative Timothy Walz (D-MN) on March
17, 2011. If enacted, H.R. 1148 would prohibit any member of Congress
from disclosing or acting upon nonpublic information regarding any
publicly traded company. It would also require full disclosure from
members of any transactions or trades made while in office. This
legislation has been referred to the House Committee on Ethics where it
is pending further review. While I do not serve on this committee,
please be assured I will keep your thoughts in mind should this
legislation come to the House floor for a vote.
It was good to hear from you. Please do not hesitate to contact me any
time you have an issue of concern before Congress. I encourage you to
visit my website at bucshon.house.gov
sign up for my e-newsletter to receive updates from Washington. Also,
please take time to fill out my survey at bucshon.house.gov/survey
Congress. It is an honor to serve you and the people of the 8th
District of Indiana.
Sincerely,
Larry Bucshon
Member of Congress

Note to Congressional staff & elected officials reading this: this letter was sent through Contact-Congress features on OpenCongress.org, a free public resource website, but in the future we seek to compel the U.S. Congress to adopt fully open technology for constituent communications. For more information how your office can better handle public feedback through an open API and open standards, contact us -- even today, there are significantly more efficient and responsive ways for our elected officials to receive email feedback than the status quo of individual webforms. For greater public accountability in government, we must make the process of writing one's members of Congress more accessible and empowering. Looking ahead, we will release more data from Contact-Congress letters and Congressional response rates back into the public commons. This will result in a new open data source on bills & issues people care about, as well as encourage best practices in constituent communications and make it possible to grade members of Congress on their responsiveness & citizen satisfaction.
