Impressive legislation that is the type of thing the founding fathers would have wanted beyond the wildest dreams. Such transparency in the way government has till now been limited by technology. Fortunately we have the tools today to enforce such legislation without a burdensome cost.
This bill is VERY long and quite the read, so I may have not over-looked something, but as I can see this bill is great if not going in the right direction. It is likely this bill will be amended further given all the ways this bill could improve what democracy really means to Americans.
I look forward to seeing even more support for this bill!

This bill is clearly going in the right direction-- which is to say, it heads towards the edge of the sludge pit, out of the absolute unvarnished corruption which congress has been wading in to their necks. It does not leave the pit. In goes in the right direction a few steps, bringing our Congress to still be in the crap up to their upper shoulders. Look again at this bill with fresh eyes, anyone who feels encouraged!
This is a bill to ban actual practices that our government has been openly engaged in: Representatives accepting bribes. It really is as simple and ugly as that. This bill bans some of the kinds of bribes they CURRENTLY ACCEPT IN EXCHANGE FOR LEGISLATION, and does not ban others. (Never mind the rewards which have been illegal all along-- this bill doesn't bother to reban secret cash payments kept in freezers and trips to prostitutes.)
This is not a bill to abolish the corruption of Washington, or to substantially alter its character. Our government continues to be fundamentally corrupt, and it would be best if we could learn to stomach facing that fact for long enough to deal with it. If your elected representative says to you, "You know what? I've decided not to accept meals and sports tickets from lobbyists! I am such a refreshing breath of fresh air! Lookie me!", you need to say right back to them: "WTF? You were accepting these bribes LAST WEEK? You are continuing to associate socially with the SAME LOBBYISTS, right now? WTF?"
If this bill repealed every law which had ever been written by a lobbyist (most of them), then I'd be immpressed.
